@@BrianMiller1973 If you by 'regular charcoal' mean briquettes, then yes, they produce a lot of ash and clog up the vent holes. I only ever use charcoal in my kamado.
I have 3 kamados, the vison, akorn jr and broil king keg. The keg is most like the BGE w. the ash control system. I still use briquettes in it. I just have to clean it out after each cook. If you don't mind doing that, which I don't. But I also have a charcoal basket in my kamdo, which makes it easier to clean
I've tried many fire starter cubes et.c. But have been disappointed with all. Then I found these, available in almost every supermarket, cheap, and works. every.time. Love them. Here's a link, but not sure if they're available outside Sweden: www.coop.se/handla/varor/hushall/hem-hobby/tandare-rullning/brastandare-solstickan-7310687001041
JB I always brush them with a wire brush under hot water. Then scrub them with steel wool, and finally into the dish washer. Have done that for 7+ years, they still look pretty shiny and new.
@@franciscojesuscortes Yeah, I was surprised too, because I plan to save up and buy one. But, Hank is right -- that they're very safe and not made with gasoline. He he he
Very simple I’ll try this, I thought my deflector was hopeless
Great tip thanks!
Is it cool to use regular charcoal in the grill?
Eddie Costa Any good quality lump charcoal will work just fine.
Regular charcoal produces a lot of ash. This will restrict the airflow and hurt the performance of the kamado. Best to stick with lump.

gasoline tablets? You don't understand what you are doing with your health and future cooking
Well, you don't know what you're talking about. These are made from wood and wax. Very environmentally friendly.
@@HanksTrueBBQ ok, if it is not made from gasoline, then ok
