Good work mate, mock test in your hand with one finger in the groove and the opposite hand turning the roller shows how the concept works, however it’s operating backwards and fitting this way would also be backwards. I also bench tested this as you did and found it to go the same way yours did. Then Google searched to confirm. Thanks for the confirmation vid mate!! 👍
If you hadnt out this up i would have never known about which way to put them on when i had my 4.1 tinnie i had one on it an i just thought it was a dodgy roller i plan to put two on my resto boat a its glass thanks for the info .
Hi mate just got similar rollers. My old boats rollers has steel sleel sleelvs inside, these new ones dont. And also do you find even after removing both split pins, that the roller pins won't knock out?
They don't do a lot of work and the material is pretty hard wearing so having metal sleeves is no longer necessary. I guess the shafts tend to corrode a bit even though they're galvanised maybe a good spray with WD40 the night before you plan to remove them would help a bit. Cheers!
I was looking at these online and noticed the odd person had given them only one star. I was wondering if perhaps the people who were dissatisfied had in fact, installed them backwards.
Sorry for the late reply. I replaced all of my centre rollers with this type. You might get away with replacing just the 2 at the rear of the trailer because once the bow has gone through the second roller it should keep going straight and the rest of the guides should help. I don't consider them to be that expensive so replaced the lot with this type. Cheers!
Anyone who couldn't figure this out probably also wouldn't be able to work out which way to turn the spanner to loosen the screws. Same concept surely?
Easy mistake for most mechanical minded people. I also set up a mock test and was surprised how easily it would be to mistake putting them on backwards. Hold the roller put your finger i. The groove to turn it and you see how it works, this is turning the wrong way and a lot of people would fit it this way.

How many do you need for a trailer?

Or just spin it on the vice and watch the direction of the grooves move

Unfortunately, not everyone was gifted with your obviously superior brain, Very sad! 🤣
Brilliant, thanks.
