Thanks everyone for the support!
I would love to hear some feedback and will pick the winner of the giveaway on monday 16 Nov.
Sorry about some focus problems. I believe my Panasonic lens has to much grinding dust inside. Will fix it in the future.

You took the words out of my mouth!😊 Congrats on the 20K subs!!
LOL, yes but YOU need to say I told you so ;-)
@@bartharkemametalworks2299 Ok well I told you so. 😁
You are smart, talented, brave... you r amazing, your shop is awesome. Perfect, just perfect. ;)
Dont forget the red beard... Thank Man! Its realy nice to share this shop adventure together.
@@bartharkemametalworks2299 yes your quite handsome too but not as much as me LOL
Ah, bromance 😁
@@woodscreekworkshop9939 dont get it wrong sir. Hes 36 and dont have a gf, never had.
@ LOL, must admit the handsome part is true. And its funny that every time someone says Handsome that Yuchol shows up :-). How is the shop Yuchol? found some time for machining again? Btw, im already 39 and have a gf. Luckely she still think i'm handsome (enough... ;-) (or was it handy)
20K 👍 🤙 . Good stuff mate. Can we please see more colour coordinated polar fleeces though. The matching blue euro style in the last video was ace 😁
Thanks! I working on a matching set of clothes for each machine ;-)
Bart, I always enjoy watching your work because of the attention to detail and the quality of materials and techniques. Basically, doing it proper!😀 also, I must say that the most impressive machine I saw in your whole shop was your espresso machine! What a cool device. Congratulations on the subscriber milestone.
Regards,
Mark Presling Australia
Thank you Mark. That espresso machine is great. I like the mechanical design (in functionality its a little less great but still good). Maybe need to modify it a bit ;-)
Congratulations on your 20k! I came across your channel because of your Okuma LS series - I also have a slightly smaller Okuma lathe. I enjoy the variety of work you take on, and look forward to more detailed reconditioning videos.
Congrats Bart on reaching 20K subscribers! I love the new shop, especially compared to the small space you moved out of. I've really enjoyed the videos of making new tools such as the belt grinder and the bender.
Thanks Bob! Yes it's a big difference from the old shop. I had a clear picture of my dream shop in my head for many years but I had to be patient. Investing time and money and continue improving. But i'm not done yet. Far from ;-)
Enjoy watching your care and respect for old machines, the creative way you use them, and the modifications made to improve their usefulness.
Thank you Walter, that is nice to hear. I do like the old machines a lot. The quality, the design, the life they had. I like to keep them original. Improvements are fine but I want to match the quality of the machine. Fun story, I want to install a DRO on the Okuma. I need to drill a few holes in the casting and cross slide. I have never ever drilled holes in a quality machine. I must say that it is a mental challenge. I'm not ready for it yet. Maybe in a few weeks from now I will be able to add my name to the 'drill holes in quality machines list'.
@@bartharkemametalworks2299 👍
Hi Bart, congratulations with the 20 k subs.I just recently retired and am getting into, from hobby fabrication, machining as well.Got a semi professional mill now to support my little lathe.People like you are needed to inspire and give confidence to amateurs like me.Only have a 4x4 m space but I life in S France so can do the ,,dirty,, work outside. Thanks for the tour!
Thanks Robert, that is nice to hear. My old shop was 3,5 - 5 meters so almost the same. And I had many machines in there. It was a challege but I had much fun in that little shop.
Just keep doing what you been doing, having been a metal fabricator myself for the past 20yrs mainly on trucks and trailers it's great to see different faucets of metal working and you do things not seen everyday like the fenders for that cool car and the trophy/award you made. Love the videos, Keep up the good work.
Thanks! Yes I do like the allround work and interesting projects. Leaning new skills and being creative.
I need you to come organize my shop. I like your humility, ho Etsy and being so humble. You don’t try to be someone you’re not, really appreciate that.
Thank you Yuchol. I can't come over to your shop (would love to) but I can give you instructions :-). Hope you are doing well!
The first project of yours that I saw was the crazy awesome metal bender that does everything. Since I've always enjoyed your tool builds, restorations, and modifications the most, but I find a lot of value in nearly every video you do.
Thanks Chris, Thats nice to hear. Yes the bender was a great project. Sometimes I think it is harder that I dont focus on just one side of metalwork and be an expert (for my channel and business), but being allround and learning new skills is just way to much fun.
I like the machine restorations, metal projects and shop updates. Nice quality work!!! Continue with the same concept! 🙂 BR from Finland
Thanks, sound like all my video's ;-). I will continue to share the project en shop adventures. I also will add a bit more educational videos.
I think you make great videos! I first started to watch your videos because of your belt grinder Projekt and found out that you had a ton of more interesting videos. Im slowly putting my own shop together and your videos are great inspiration for that. Greatings from Germany
Gday Bart, firstly I’d like to thank you for all the effort you put in to making the videos for us to see, why do I like your channel, simply your attention to detail is truly amazed, you take a lot of pride in your workmanship and this shows in every job you do, the skills you have are over a wide variety of machines and techniques, so much can be learnt from each and every one of your videos, the workshop setup you have is a perfect example of the quality of work you do, neat clean tidy very well presented and your pride shows here, as for further projects I’m happy to see what ever you are doing at the time, I’m sure that you have a list of things you’d like to do as we all have, thank you again Bart, much appreciated, Cheers Matty
Love your shop! It is waaaay more organized than most shops 😀
Extensive shop it's the envy of many viewers myself included , keep up the good work ,all the best from the west of Ireland
Thanks! The shop will improve in small steps. I think people also like that proces itself. Not just expensive machines that bought with a lot of money. I work hard toward my dream shop and that alone is a proces that I like. Sometimes I need to reminde myself that there is no real end goal and it is the proces that counts. (Well that is a short summary of my life's philosophy ;-).
Bro! Your shop is amazing! I'm just getting started but hope to be close to your level one day. It seems like it'd take a million bucks to get all that tooling, lol. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations on the milestone and thanks for the great content! Your videos have a relaxed, clear, no-nonsense style that is refreshing, and the great subject matter helps. The bender project was my favourite to date, the different modes of operation packed into that package is a work of art. The roller and the belt grinder vie for second place, but I think upgrading the roller wins out, seeing the process of improving what others might have replaced without a second thought. Having said that, they're all presented in a way that they are enjoyable to watch.
Though I've seen many, many forge build videos I hope you'll put one out of yours as it would be interesting to see your take on it. If the internet can survive a squillion videos about inane celebrity surely it can survive at least one more forge build 👍. Other than that, I'll happily keep watching all the tool builds, workshop re-organisations, machinery restorations, sheetmetal working, forging, and whatever other jobs you come across and offer up to share with us. Maybe not forging combined with gardening and baking, mostly because it might anger the gods to steal another smith's thunder, not because I wouldn't watch them 😁
Thank you! I will build a good forge in the near future and make a video about it. For baking, I cant promise that. How do you expect me to test the forge without making pizza... ;-)
@@bartharkemametalworks2299 no doubt that I'll watch it too 😂
I found you back when you made you're bender. I have a plan to make my own but currently I'm to busy building my second workshop 9x6 meters this time as I out grew my current one. I enjoy you're videos not only because there interesting but relaxing to watch and that's why I keep coming back every time you post a new one.
Thanks Shane, appreciat that. Yes the bender was a great project, maybe one of my best. Good luck with you shop! And remember to put the lights above the machines ;-)
@@bartharkemametalworks2299 yeah watching this video made me think of placing independant lights above my machines.
very nice shop.. concrats on the 20k sub count. Just Keep doing what you love.
Thanks! I will continue with my work and projects and will add some more educational video's to this channel because I also love to teach/help other people.
Hi Bart the gantry crane for the new shop was awesome, your new shop layout is pretty good. Love the inspection room and tools. Keep up the improvements, the shop is looking awesome 👍
Thanks! Yes the crane was very helpfull and worked great. I dont use it much these days and it stand in the corner of the shop. But if I need it its there.
Well done on the 20k. I like to watch things that will teach me something new and at the same time its enjoyable to watch something done well and honestly. We all learn the most from our mistakes but if I can learn from the mistakes of others instead even better. Keep it up.
Thanks! Maybe I need to make more mistakes then ;-). Or put them in the video.... But I agree, i try to keep things honest and real.
I think that i started watching you with the belt grinder build. I love seeing old and interesting machines .
Keep up the great videos, you and your shop are very interesting.
I’d like to see how some of those machines work.
Thank you!
Well done for a well equipped and tidy workshop. I don't have as much equipment but starting again due to a workshop fire. Have got something to aim for. Keep up the videos.
Thanks! Hope you can rebuild your shop a bit. Just step by step. Looking back one year ago I cant imagine that I had some of these machines in my very small and non isolated garage. Time goes fast and still so many thing to do that I believe will never end. Just enjoy the ride.
congrats man . would love to see your video while doing your real job / work . so we have idea whats all the tools doing for your job , again . congrats for 20k , really enjoyed your videos
Thanks you! Yes I try to keep things real and show my life and adventures in the shop.
i like the diversity of the work you do in your workshop. well presented videos. the two projects that leap to mind are the shaper keyway tool and the anvil stand.
Hi Steve, The anvil stand is a long time ago. Cool! It still works great and I used almost every day i'm in the shop.
I found your site while prepping to build a 2x72 belt sander. I don't find myself doing the same quality of work that you do, but having a lot of fun
Thanks! Yes the belt grinder was a great project that took a long time to build. It was worth it and it is build to last.
Thanks Bart,
Found your channel when you upgraded your bead roller, I’m in the process of doing the same.
Enjoy your content.
Cheers
Thanks, yes the bead roller was a nice project. I do plan to motorize it.
Congrats on 20k. I believe it's a matter of time and you will gain a lot of views. I especially like the "machine maker" videos. Like the grinder and the bender.
Thanks! Yes the grinder and bender where nice projects and still give me a proud feeling when I use them. I have a lot more ideas for future building projects but I have to be patient and set my priorities. Time will come and with every shop improvement my work will get more efficient.
Been watching since your leg vice restoration. Keep up the good work 😊
Thanks! That was a long time ago! So much has happend since. Nice that you follow this journey. I'm curious how the shop will be in 3-4 years from now because the improvements only seem to speed up.
Congratulation on the 20k fans, me included who enjoyed and adored your metal work. I learned a lot from all your videos its very educational. Keep up the good work as always we wish you all the best on your up coming projects.
Thanks! Nice to hear that. Besides projects I also plan to do some more educational video's in the future. I can share so many metalworking skills in this shop that may be helpful for others.
Jose YOU are the winner of the Giveaway!!!! Congratulations. I made a nice project for this. Check out my new video and contact me via bartharkema at gmail dot com for more information
@@bartharkemametalworks2299 Thank you again Bart Ill contact you through your E-mail tomorrow.
Hi, as a southern neighbor from northwestern Belgium, I appreciate your work. Since my mandatory early retirement ring, I've also been making myself a metal workplace. I only have experience in woodworking: I made some furniture, joinery and even carvings for myself that should be seen.
When you work with machines, it requires regular maintenance, replacement or updating. I liked that but didn't have a lathe and milling machine, now I do.
And I learn so much from you, thank you.
Thank you! I agree that some work can only be done with other machines. But there is so much that you can build with only a welder and grinder. I started there. Build my own belt grinders and tools. Now a few years later I still work to improve my shop and make the tools that I need. The proces just goes faster and faster. Btw, I started to do a little bit more woodworking lately. That is also very nice but not a good combination in a metal work shop.
Well done bart, you should not be surprised, with your talent and interesting projects you will go far more than 20k, best project i liked was the bender
Thanks! Hope to grow the channel even more in the future. And yes, the bender was a great project.
I like the variety and less often seen machines. No need to change anything, just quadruple your output ;)
Who wouldn’t love a shop like yours👍🏻 very nice....
Thanks. Btw, the answer to your question could be: my girlfriend... ;-).
For me I just enjoy watching the journey. I’m inspired by your workmanship and commitment to excellence. And I’m shamed by how well organized your shop is. You have about as much packed in there as it’s possible to have without causing tidal effects to your neighbors or collapsing into a black hole. By comparison my wood shop in the basement cannot be seen in public for fear panic may result. Anyway, congratulations on growing your channel. You’ll be at 100K subscribers before you know it. My suggestion for a giveaway? Speculas. (Google it if you aren’t from Holland or New Jersey) A genuine Dutch treat.
Thanks for the story and feedback! Nice to hear. Yes its a great journey and I try to enjoy the ride. Sometimes its hard to be in the moment. So many ideas on future improvements and project. But I also try to enjoy where I am right know. Proud of many hours hard work. It's is amazing how much has changed this year. I think my old shop was a great example of the black hole collapsing. I had to put machines outside when I wanted to work inside. Btw, Speculas is a great idea. But depends a bit on how far I need to send the package
@@bartharkemametalworks2299 after thinking about my reply I decided I should actually answer the question you asked rather than fly off into a smart-ass reply so here it is: don’t worry about what to put on your channel or what projects to work on to make subscribers happy. Just do what you want to do and we’ll all be happy to look over your shoulder. And, of course, we’ll offer tons of unsolicited advice on things we don’t know much about! Don’t try to copy someone else’s style. That always looks bad. If you’re true and honest, along with your skill and commitment, people will find you and enjoy your work. As we used to say, just keep on keepin on. (Thankfully, we don’t say that any longer.) You’ll be fine. I promise.
Congratulations for the achievement! Greetings from Uruguay
Thank you!
Hey Bart your shop is looking great definitely paint your ceiling white after 35 years I just painted mine and what a deference
Thanks and good suggestion not to wait to long.
My fav project you have done so far is the belt grinder. I enjoy your attention to detail in your projects and maybe in the future you could do some knife builds or maybe even a sword. Hope you and your family are doing well in the trying global Times please keep safe
Thanks Richard, yes the grinder was a great project. I am working towards some knife builds but want to do quality work. So first step is some attachements on the belt grinder, a larger forge and material testing (that is why i bought the Rockwell C hardness tester).
That's a nice workshop. I did subscribe sometime around the time you start moving. The first video of the gantry crane build popped up on my UA-cam page and I subscribed right away. Awesome content, great videos with nice quality. Keep it up. 👍
Greetings from Portugal.
Thank you Pedro, that about one year ago. The gantry Crane was a nice project. Not my favorite from design point of view but still very usefull and quality build.
I really enjoy the work you do! the videos you make really capture your passion for what you do! I hope I can grow my channel like you!
Thanks! and I did subscribe ;-). Quality will improve with time, just share what you love and what you are good at (or the learning proces). So lets start and make some more 'county music' builder video's. I like it!
@@bartharkemametalworks2299 thank you so much for subscribing! I definitely have some more of the builder videos coming up! I appreciate the suggestion!
Dig the content congrats on 20k thats awesome. Maybe one day for my shop.
Thanks! Already going to 30K soon!
I did subscribe ;-)
I did like both of your belt grinder/ sander makes. Also the fact you use older machines which are often better made .
Thanks! Yes both grinders work great and a joy to use them.
Well done on the 20k suscribers.I like the content overall, it would be great if you could do more videos than you are at the moment.I know you need time to do that but the more videos you make more people will subscribe.
Thank you Gerry. I try to make some more video's in the future. Goal is at least 2 every month, maybe even one every week.
Great shop! Congratulatioms! Your best pojects? For me: the beltgrinder and the gantry crane.
I would love to see some sketches of your projects. If it was my shop I would add some cnc stuff, eg a Maho or Deckel CNC.
Thanks! I do plan to add a small CNC in the future. Then I will also share some more design work. I will see if i can share some more drawings and stuff of my projects in the future. There are many people asking for that.
I really enjoy watching your videos, i am not brave enough to do videos nor do i have the equipment, dont even have a smart phone. I think that you can go far in this world, dont let anyone set you back.
Thank you for the nice words. I will continue and I hope you do the same with what you love and want to do. The world is not a better place with better video's. The world is a better place with better people.
I was wondering where all the Shaublin's where on Marktplaats, but there all in your shop ;) Nice collection of tools! Btw i also buy from auctions, it's a gamble indeed, but you can never have to many inserts.
Yes I made an agreement with Marktplaats to send all Schaublin parts to me. Sorry about that. Btw, i do believe I have to many inserts (because yesterday I picked up another large batch). ;-)
Great talent, in a great shop :-)
Thanks Henrik!
Congratulation's and has always I Liked, shared. All my best.
i follow you because your a inspiration to me. i am a 16 year old machiner and i love watching your video's because your a dutch person and i am from belgium
Thanks Seppe! Cool that you are a young machinist. Just learn as much as you can. And your lucky with that, when I was 16 there was no UA-cam ;-)
Happy 20k Bart!! I am sad to hear of your grandfather passing away and you never meeting him:( for suggestions, its hard because your content is so good how it is right now!! your shop looks great!! so i'll see you next time, stay safe and have fun!!
Thanks! Yes I would love to be able to walk around in my grandfathers shop. They took it down when I was 1,5 years old. But still great foto memories and I think I got the love for metalwork from him. So thanks and see you next time!
Keep it up!!
Thanks!
Actually...you found me on Instagram, wich i greatly appreciate as a new guy in the knifemaking game. Apart from that, i like metalwork even though i'm not a fabricator/machinist myself. I like watching you make cool stuff, like your 2x72 by example!
tx enjoy the vids, built a small welding table, groete van suid africa
Thanks! And I do plan to build a welding table soon. But it wont be small ;-).
Might I suggest painting the walls a light gray instead. Gray improves photographic exposure.
Interesting. Didnt know that. Is there a specific grey color that works best?
@@bartharkemametalworks2299 in the old photographic film days you calibrated your light meter using a gray card. That might be a little dark for you but you can see the benefit of gray walls if you search through Steve Summers UA-cam archive. He has (had?) gray walls in his shop and the contrast and color balance benefits are obvious. Regardless your videos are fine and I really enjoy them.
Yves told you so! 😂
...I’ll get my coat!
LOL, it only counts when he will write it...
You shud paint the walls it will make it eaven nicer than it is. Keep up good work. 👍
Thanks and I will!
I plan to build a larger shop also. What is the size of your shop? Do you have plans to add a overhead crane/hoist? I will need one to lift stuff on and off my mill table.
My shop is 7x9 meters. I have a fixed overhead hoist (welding area). But I also build a mobile gantry crane to use inside of outside the shop: ua-cam.com/video/C9OBaVycV1U/v-deo.html
By the thumb it looked like a 20,000 dollar give away. C'mon Man!
Sorry, that was not my intention and will change it! --> changed it! (as thumb, cant change the start in the video). Thanks for the feedback.
