No, it says a lot about Nintendo's public perception. There is a massively overblown shitstorm surrounding Nintendo and negative PR. I don't really know why, but I think its just to do with the internet's tendency to sensationalize and overblow every bit of drama it comes across. They aren't really as bad people make them out to be, they have historically incredible employee treatment, for example. They just make some stupid or antiquated decisions based on JP copyright law every now and again.

I feel like valve can use "Human Limit" as a legal defense for not taking down the mods. they quite literally can't stop people from uploadin it. Forgoing just GMODs mods theres probably hundreds of old Half life mods that use nintendo stuff. Look at SVEN COOP, some of that shits so buried and passed around everyone has some nintendo mod for that.
By having this be your legal stance you'd be easily pressured into your opposition arguing you should not host a platform where this can take place. And I think Valve would like to keep Steam Workshop existing for the content it brings to their own games if not others
If you coincide it is wrong to host copyrighted content on the workshop but admit it isn't possible to moderate. You'd be told to stop hosting the workshop as your only solution

Even with steams current active attempts theres people reuploading all deleted mods anyway, try as they may and add policies as they may, People are the ones who made and own the content. You might argue *they* should be dealing with this, though that is a ridiculous argument to make... maybe. It is the people infringing copy right, and then continuing and spreading the infringement of nintendos IP.

The most simplistic explanation is that Garry is being a dumbass and wrong. I say this because it has happened many many many times in the past, unlike Nintendo nuking mods for games they don't own.
Nintendo *is* like this though, it's like, their one defining feature that their legal team is one of the most aggressive in the industry, sure garry might be wrong here and absolutely clueless but Nintendo is 100% capable of doing this and no one would be surprised

Every decision a company makes comes from the CEO and the Board of Directors and wouldn't ya know it Miyamoto, Koizumi, Tezuka and many other old Nintendo devs have a spot on the Board. That's worst part about this whole situation: The fact that Nintendo isn't above doing this. Between that and the false DMCA claims, the waters are always going to be muddy even once all Nintendo related addons are gone from the Workshop... and that's bit of an 'if' considering the pushback on this where people are reuploading stuff constantly both on the Workshop and elsewhere.

i think its very weird that valve has done nothing. if garry cant contact nintendo, surely valve could right? all the portal games are on switch, so we know these two companies have worked closely in the past and should have the ability to easily communicate.
shouldnt valve have an interest in this? since gmod is, at its most basic technical level, still an hl2 mod that valve has given facepunch the rights to sell on their platform, you think this would be of concern for them.
Yeah you’d think so. but looking at TF2; a game that (atleast from what I’ve heard) has gotten little to no attention from the respective company for god knows what reason, honestly I’d expect nothing more or even less from Valve in this scenario.
But then again I barely know anything about Valve or TF2, nor have I even played the game since somewhere between 2020-2021 due to computer issues and I don’t know if I ever will again.
So logically; I really cant jump to conclusions.
Maybe there is still hope that Valve might jump in and reach out to Nintendo and their lawyers about it and maybe even shine a brighter light on the situation so we can all get the proper validation we need, but for now all we can do is wait and see if this is whole ordeal was just some random troll wasting our time or if Nintendo actually chose now of all times to get rid of the Add-ons. *Stay strong!*
Because Valve can't do anything about it. It's not a false copyright takedown, Nintendo is well within their rights, it sucks but there's literally nothing that can be done about it.
@@benyerd6247 I'll say that the addon creators were unfairly slapped here, as far i'm aware, most if not all credit Nintendo in the description of the workshop , no one claims to want profit nor claim they made it.

@@StraightGangsta With how copyright laws are it doesn’t matter if you aren’t profiting and you credited them, it’s still infringement. Not altering the source is actually a problem as well since you can’t claim fair use that way.
@@benyerd6247 These Copyright laws were deeply flawed tho, because logically speaking, as long as you credit them and dont change their asset, then is *not stealing* or infringement, they're simply porting models into a 1/2 decade old engine, sauce engine , and usually is for the game's community usage, nothing else.
The only way is "stealing" would be to not credit them, demand monetary gain and claim you made these assets.
It’s so weird how Nintendo’s views on copyright can just steamroll everything else’s, including the actual law. Gmod is completely fine with all other copyrighted material on their platform, but Nintendo’s copyright (which is the same as everyone else’s) is just so much more powerful that they have to bend to their will. This also sets a shitty precedent for Gmod like if Disney wanted to wipe away all their stuff or if Activision Blizzard could finally eliminate those Overwatch models.
Also I don’t want this to get more heated than it needs to be, but Super Mario Galaxy 2’s story was Miyamoto’s fault, not post 2012 Paper Mario. It’s also just kind of odd to kick up that dead horse now that TTYD is getting a remake, I guess there’s a slim chance they do a bait & switch and go back to the modern style after the remake but it’s hard to imagine why.

I don’t think Garry really cares. He hasn’t said anything about it since and seems to have his mind set. I feel like he sees Gmod as just some dumb thing he created 20 years ago and is tired of dealing with it.

It seems that nobody want to say that out loud but I think it should be kinda obvious: "V" stepped on "N" territory with their _thing_ so in response "N" did strike back on "V" at _their backyard_
One thing I think should be considered is that this isn't the first time Nintendo has taken down a long running use of their IP which does not involve mods (of their games), piracy, emulation, fan games or anything like that.
They also did something similar to the Mario fan series SuperMarioLogan a few years back. The series was sort of like a sitcom acted out with Mario plushies, each episode having its own story with the same cast of characters living their day to day lives. The series ended up being very successful and well received on UA-cam, with the cahnnel getting millions of subscribers. However one day in 2021, Nintendo sent a letter to the creator demanding that the Mario characters would either be removed entirely, or replaced with original characters (the latter of which ended up happening).
So if you think this is unusual for Nintendo to take down, remember that Nintendo got mad at someone for posting videos about playing with Mario dolls.
What I feel so unsure about the DMCA is that why does it only affecting Garry's Mod and not other popular source engine-based games like Left 4 Dead 2? it feels strange that they only put DMCA on Facepunch and not VALVE as well since L4d2 workshop has similar mods in the workshop
L4D2 workshop is mostly comprised of anime IPs more then Nintendo's , not that Nintendo stuff doesnt exist but is not as profilant as it is in GMod.
Like seriously, L4D2 is some sort of hub for the weebs or something cuz i never have ever seen that *many anime* on a game workshop...

Honestly it’s clearly false on the DMCA claims courtesy of one Nintendo impersonator of Aaron Peters. It really hurts for certain fans of certain franchises like Splatoon of all franchises. Ok so get this and I would love to hear your guys’ input on this. I am a young aspiring filmmaker and one thing I’ve always wanted to do as a kid was to make a Nintendo related web series and now I’m actually in the midst of developing an animated Splatoon web series at the moment. The story takes place after the events of Splatoon 3, so a lot of story beats are driven by already existing events and characters of the first three games. I’ve written several screenplay drafts, character bios, world-building concepts, and an entire document detailing the history of Splatoon as a reference to work off of and to influence both the world and the characters. And yes there is a mixture of original characters I created and already existing characters in the games. This has been a passion project of mine ever since I picked up Splatoon 2. However, I’m using blender as the animation software, not gmod or sfm. I would appreciate your guys opinions on this. Should I continue on this web series despite the odds? I know it’s weird that I’m posting this in a UA-cam comment section, but I don’t know where else to turn because it’s such a niche project. I can’t really change the world because of how much time I spent even building the world even further than the games themselves and the story builds off of almost everything that is Splatoon. Let me know what you guys think.

Its only the workshop from my knowledge gamebanana is untouched. Time for some of these kids to learn how modding gmod worked all the way back in the gmod 9/10 days those were amazing yet dark primitive times god help us if the creator didnt package their mod correctly or at all in an addon folder which often have files that would replace things like textures or models or sounds which caused alot of problems very frequently lmao someone force them kids to use 2006 broadband internet too so they REALLY know pray that addon or map isnt 1gb otherwise comeback in an hour or two kid oh you're downloading a model pack? are you sure you want to commit to that because theres no going back you're not really using this pc running a Pentium 4 and 1-2gbs of ram for the rest of the day

i mean... i saw this coming since the last time i searched for some Mario models and i found the best model was a rip extracted from Odyssey and the best Alucard model is a rip from Smash bros... they are literaly using assets from the games and i'm not even counting the pokemon models that are from the switch games. i can understand why they are doing this those are literaly their work stolen and only converted to work on GMod.
