- Our Newborn Can't Hear!
When our newborn baby boy was born he did not pass his initial hearing screening at the hospital. The nurses said it is nothing to worry about and that a lot of newborns don't pass their first hearing screening because they have a lot of fluid in their ears. Now we went back to get him retested 3 weeks later and he still can not pass the hearing test. We are very worried for our sons hearing and now we have to take him to a speech and hearing center.

Hi! I’m deaf and I was born deaf. I had hearing aids when I was 3 years old. I’m still deaf, it’s doesn’t mean that I can hear everything 100%, It’s helped me to hear some sounds. My mom took me to speech therapy for 5 years. I use sign language to communicate with my family and friends to understand what they are saying. I'm perfectly fine and healthy, there nothing wrong with me except my ears. If your son is deaf, I hope you will learn sign language so you can communicate with your son its very important and beautiful sign language. I know it's sad for you guys that your son can not hear your voices which I understand that and that how my parents felt that when they found out that I was born deaf. I hope everything goes well with your son and you guys!

Learn sign language as a family. It is a beautiful language. I went to a school with people deaf/hard of hearing and I learned some signs and I have some amazing friends and let me tell you how HUGE it is to break that barrier and learn sign language for the deaf/hard of hearing community.

I am soon finished with my masters degree in educational audiologist and have seen similar red spots on children born with CMV - Cytomegalovirus. I don't want to give you unnecessary worries, and hopefully it is nothing more than baby acne. But CMV is very unknown and goes sadly unnoticed in many cases because there is still little awareness around it even though it is one of the main causes of hearing impairment in newborn children. It shouldn't take much for a pediatrician to take a test and weed out the possibility. Blessings :-)

Please,please dont stress yourself out my little girl went through the samething she use to sleep all day no matter what noise was going on it seemed like she could never hear it and she would sleep right through..she only started hearing us after a month i to was really broken thinking that my baby couldnt hear..just give him some time im not saying he might be like my daughter but just look at options n stay positive

My wife And I just found out our beautiful precious 6 week year old has mild-moderate hearing loss.When the audiologist told us the news we were too shocked we didn't process it till we got in our vehicle and the tears started to flow. Seeing and following your family is giving us hope. Any advice I can give my wife that everything will be fine? Im there being strong for her but its just soo hard! May god bless us and our children!
There is a technique in India or Tibet wherein the mind is trained for hearing by just looking at it. Like he can guess 100% right Just through lip movements or something.

I often had a lot of otitis until I turned 7 years. So I didn't hear so well. But when I was 1 year old I got a drain (I don't really know if it's how you say it in english but anyway). After that I have heard normal. (Also when the drian fell out. (I'm from Denmark so I'm not quite sure if I say all these things right)

Hello! I am an audiologist. Just wanted to say that all of your feelings and fears are completely normal. Neo’s next test will give you lots of information regarding his prognosis but rest assured that there are amazing interventions and specialists out there that will allow him to thrive in life.

Namastey, It was my own brother who didn't pass the hearing test for six months cz of fluids and stuffs in his ears, In India we do massage (maalish of newborns) over baby's body till 3 years of age so that they can pull out the fluids of their stomach, nose and ears and then they can be better. Try google about it, might help. God bless your baby ❤️❤️

My niece was diagnosed with hearing loss secondary to neonatal jaundice at 6 weeks and we freaked out and cried. A repeat test at 4 months found her hearing to be normal . She is now 20 months and her hearing is superb. She even sings. I put this comment here for anybody looking for some hope

I’m sorry about this, I’m not a parent, I’m not able to relate. But I can sympathize. When you said he hadn’t heard your voice, I teared up, I hadn’t realized how important that is for a parent. I’m currently learning ASL, it can be difficult, but always amazing to know!

It shouldnt this is life and things happen in life that is scary but they can get over this together.
no matter if Neo is deaf or not he will be capable of anything you both can do. and most deaf children are born to hearing parents, you guys have options on ASL or cochlear implant so he will be fine no matter what you guys choose.
omg i hope baby neo is fine. but i want to tell you this i am 15 years old and have hearing problems too and i got it when i was little and no one in my familly had hearing loss. but I use a machine in my ear so that I can hear. but I hope it goes well with him. I have hearing loss and my parents found out when I was two and a half years old. I'm 25 years old now and Alhamdulilah, I am doing well in life :) I wear hearing aids and I speak (communicate orally). Your son will be fine, I promise. No matter whether he will sign or communicate orally, he will be just fine and will be able to communicate . Hopefully he will be able to hear you with either wearing hearing aids or cochlear implant May Allah bless you all :)

my son was born with no hearing as well, i even took him to a hearing specialist where they confirmed that he was non hearing. when my son was 5 months they had informed me that my son was finally able to hear. i know it’s hard, it was hard to walk out the hospital alone with those kinds of news. but God is great, and now my son is the lightest sleeper and hears absolutely everything. you guys are in my prayers so you guys can have the strength to deal with this trying time! love you guys! ♥️

Indeed, there is hope. But for most of the times it What it is.
I was born and couldn’t hear I failed multiple test and the doctors begin to give my mom sign language classes. My mom was so sad and scared she would play with me or snap to get me to react and I wouldn’t I would stay still or ignore her . She took me back I want to say a month or two later and I could finally hear.

first of all, everyone needs to stop being sorry for deaf people. we are just as capable as you guys. until you find out for sure he is deaf, and if he is, you just need to get as much education as you can.
hearing ppl associate things with sound. you guys rely more on sounds. it’s faster for you to be able to respond. so for us deaf people, we associate things and ppl with visual signs like sign language. and then you get him hearing aids first ! that will help him slowly hear sounds and then will be able to associate those sounds with the visual signs and then he’ll be able to understand/figure it out and he will be able to speak. patience and repetition and consistency just like boxing. so no need to feel sorry. just a different way to work with a child that’s best for himself.
sign language will go a long way and hearing devices soon as possible and speech therapy. he’ll be good to go.
as for bullying, you as parents and him have to educate the ppl around him and luckily now there is much more awareness about deafness than it did years ago.
example: when ppl made fun of me being stupid just because i’m deaf, i spoke back, “Well it’s funny you say that then why are you tryna cheat off my test?” i was top of all my classes.
i’m profoundly deaf in both ears. i can speak extremely well and i can hear pretty well too with hearing aids and ppl cant tell that i’m deaf. and i am myself a boxer as well. 15 years and going. so no worries. there is hope.

My older sister has a hearing and vocal disability. We as a family used to take sign language classes, her school has provided her with a device where she can press a button and it is like she were to be talking with us and after all of that she wears hearing aids. Even though it has been a bit hard as a family and sister to communicate with her we have done great and I know you will too! You guys are great parents and Abella is a wonderful big sister!

My son was born with hearing loss. When he was first born they did the hearing test twice in the hospital because he didn’t pass but they let us go home then he ended going back to the hospital in the NICU and they did another hearing test which he didn’t pass. We ended up going to an audiologist for an extensive hearing test (2 hours long) and found out that he has conductive hearing loss in his left ear. This means that his nerves work but his ear canal is too small to allow sound to pass through so he can’t hear out. One of his ears. The right ear has normal hearing. He wears a hearing aid now, he is 20 months old and is doing really well with it! There was no history of hearing loss in my or my husband family so this was a complete shock to us, especially to happen to our first child. But we are getting through it and our boy is doing great. The beginning is scary for sure because there are so many unknowns, can he hear me talking to him does he know my voice, etc but it gets better. Hearing loss and deafness is nothing to be scared of. There is a very big community of hearing loss and they have been so helpful and supportive to us in our journey so far. Wishing you the best!
Hello, my name is Alex, I'm 17 years old and I was born deaf. Also had radial dysplasia, which is in both my arms. My hearing and arm thing are not related. One of my ears I do not have an ear canal, so on that side I wear a BAHA( bone anchor hearing aid) and then on my other side I wear a normal hearing aid. Everything has been wonderful, I can really well with these aids. But there are sometime where I might have some difficulty. People say that I do not have a slur but I feel like I do. I also wanted to add that just because I have these things does not mean i am unable to do anything. My life moto is "you can do anything you put your mind too"! I'm so sorry Neo can't hear. My niece was like Neo when she little, they have hearing aides for newborns. The Prince Family's youngest daughter Alya is deaf in one ear, she has a hearing aid and is 3 months old. Hope and pray Neo regains his hearing 🙏🏼. I've learned sign language when I was pregnant with my oldest 23 years ago bc a baby can't speak if they are done or want more. Be safe and have a wonderful week love you guys 💕💕💙💙

I’m watching this almost 10 months later, now you await Neo’s February cochlear implant date and I watch all your videos. Neo has 2 such loving parents who are so bright and attentive and appreciative of life. PLUS hearing technology keeps improving vastly. And you have lots of people supporting you in prayer. I have confidence you will keep getting the best resources for your family and Neo will continue being an adorable bright light in our world.

He’ll be fine, worst case scenario, he’ll get some tubes in his ears and he’ll go on to be great! Most parents don’t find out until later and they thought they had a bad kid, but they couldn’t hear them, they got tubes and were brand new.

My little sister had tubes in her ears when she was small. & to be honest, she can hear perfectly fine now!
This is only if it is due to middle ear issues. Please dont comment on something if you are not educated on it.

sometimes the breast milk also give baby acne if is splits on his face , so is better for you guys to always clean his face with baby wipes .lots of blessing , so so sorry for baby neo hearing.

As myself I'm hard of hearing, I was born but not tested in another country because it didn't have a system for it. I grew up in New York and it was really hard for us, we couldn't find a deaf and hard of Hearing school...Once my parents found it I went there and felt more comfortable, I learned sign language...(sorry if my grammar isn't being corrected.)

Hey, I am a speech and language therapist and I primarily work with children with Hearing Impairment. You are lucky enough to know his loss at such an early age. Proceed with using a hearing aid and later a cochlear implant if it's a profound hearing loss. Once an early intervention of either hearing aid or cochlear implant is done your baby can develop language like all typically developing children because he wouldnt have a much bigger gap of no hearing to cover. It will just be 3 weeks of no hearing.
Hope you get the best treatment and intervention and your baby blooms into a successful happy young man. Prayers your way.

Hi..when Neo can hear (and it's gonna be really soon) just let him know that he didn't miss anything! Just give him your phone/laptop and let him watch all your vlogs and then he can hear all his father's encouraging words before every doctors appointment and he can hear his mother cry every time he had to get an injection!! Anyway hope he hears soon 🤞
Please teach your baby sign language becasue we need to learn language that can help you to communication with others deaf people. I suggest don't take cochlear implant for baby sugrery because when your baby grow up until her/his decision to get cochlear implant.
We thought that my brother had hearing loss but he end up not having it. If you can, maybe you can try learning some sign language so you can communicate with him more!
