- In 1984, Leon Russell Released His Version Of This Classic Song Originally Performed By Danny O'Keefe In 1972. Elvis And Charlie Rich Have Also Recorded It....But Nothing Quite Like This Non-Charting Version By Multi-Talented Leon Russell. Good Time Charlie Gets A "Light Rock" Make-Over Along With Great Backing Vocals And A Superb Saxophone. I Suppose We Could Do Without The Drum Machine...But Hey, It Was The 80's! You can also hear this great song on kvkvi.com radio.
His music never ages.....there is something very special about him. I love his version of this song.
Leon, must have left them all overwhelmed and scared,
So they used him up and kicked him to the curb.
it's bad when made and stays bad.
Man that voice. This dude is good I tell ya. My most favorite performer, singer, song writer producer. This guy did it all.
As usual for Leon Russell, another classic arrangement. What an artist!
Leon had a unique singing style. He wrote so many great songs too. Now he's rockin' for Jesus.
He died several years ago.
Leon always sang so well. Great song.
Let's not forget about what a great addition Bobby Keys made to this song. One of the best rock sax players of all times.
My favorite version of this song!! Love his voice... So relaxing.
Also my moms nick name from my step father was Charlie. This song really brings back memories of them.
This song makes me want to pull my car over when the sun is about to go down and just close my eyes and rock a little! Love this
Oh yes.....Soo miss him
Don't know why this song didn't chart. I think he does a fantastic job. I listen to it over and over.
I too find it hard to understand why it didn't chart. Just a beautiful song.
I listened to this song in the 70’s all the time by Okeefe I believe Danny?
Danny O’Keefe’s version I liked more but I still loved Leon Russell
This cover charted number 1 at my house…for 64 weeks..
Oklahoma is fertile ground for producing spectacular musicians, singers, writers. leon Russell, jj cale, vince gill, woody Guthrie, and countless otherss
Listening to this arrangment in June 2024 and it is very fresh, thank you Leon
Our Oklahoma Son......Does it Again....Adds soul to every song.
Just beautiful…..rip Leon.
I used to skate to this song by Danny! But WOW
I was the only one of my friends in 1970 that listen to Leon Russell, heard Tight Rope and fell in love with this great, great, man!
I did exactly the same thing! A new world opened up for me...Leon, the Beatles, SRV you can count the great ones on one hand
Right there with you sis keep rocking
Me too. I was 5 yrs. old.
Leon Russell has some great music what a voice
He is a special guy.
I once heard Sir Elton John say of Leon's prowess on piano, "Leon Russell could play circles around me." I knew Leon was good--real good--but that was a revelation.
Elton John had also said that he knew he wanted to "play" piano - but he wanted to BE Leon Russell.
Saw Leon and Mary at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta sometime around 1975-1976. Needless to say, he rocked the house. Somehow, it all seems like yesterday and, then again, it seems like a lifetime ago. A Million Thanks, Leon, for all the great songs and music you've given us over the years. You're one of the greatest!
Pleased to see so many listeners "get it" (Leon) Really nice.
I like the intro and love this version of this song by far the best. That sax is great.
Leon was ridiculously handsome, ridiculously intoxicating, and ridiculously sexy back in the day. His voice alone is sexy. He's still an amazing singer, musician, and showman. Leon has always been effortlessly gracious and humble. He's a gentleman and a half. I am glad that I am getting into his music while he is still among us. Leon Russell will be mourned and missed when God calls him out of this life. Peace and blessings.
What a voice!
Great SONG!! Leon was the BEST!! He will be missed so MUCH!! RIP
Love the song and Leon's smooth voice, and the Sax just tugs at your heart.
Right on the money!
LIKE ALWAYS GREAT MASTER SINGER
To Leon, this was considered a Standard....he was a master at everything he did...he was his own person with soul and conviction...R.I.P. Brother...you will live on in our hearts...your music will influence for years to come...love you forever...
Amen ....Amen......Amen🥰🥰🥰
I love this song ❤️
My favorite from the first time I saw him in Jersey City. Early 70s

I used to hate this song until I heard this version . Now I'm in love with it. great job, Leon.
Really needed to hear this song today. With eyes closed I can see him on stage and those memories will continue forever with me.
Beautiful..and a truly sad song.
2015, 2016 and 2017 were hard years. We lost so many of the greatest musician/artist to ever Grace this earth. They're not coming back around either.......the way history sometimes repeats itself. Gone but not forgotten. The artist and musician Leon Russell. Love Forever ~ kimie
Wow, love Leon's version....Fantastic....but so was Leon. R.I.P
DANG!!! Got to be one of the best Leon recordings I have ever heard!! Can't say enough good stuff about this performer....he is one of the GREATS of all time.
So Good
Yes he was.
Oh so miss him....the greatest ever
I agree💙
The great Leon...So talented, so underated. Why wasn't this this Danny O'keefe song a chartbuster? Leon turned it into a huge hit....will never understand it.
Leon Russell became one of my favorite musicians when my girlfriend, Marlette, now deceased, sadly enough, introduced me to him back in the 80's. I like. All his music. I just got to see him in Ft Worth on my birthday at Willie's 4th off July picnic. Great day and night. Willie put on a good one too at the end of the night.
If there is anyone out there that can sing, compose, write, play piano,etc..etc..better than Leon please step up too the plate.Leon was everyone's pal. Next witness.
Thank you Leon Russell for the song LADY BLUE, it is so great & brings back so many good memories!!!
beautiful, brilliant beyond words
The kind of song makes you want to pull off the road and just take it all in or drive off into the sunset forever with that easy Grove. Love this arrangement. Turn it up
At my Age, I can definitely Relate to the Words and Wisdom....!!
I grew up with Leon-Now I'm a woman who's convinced he's a charm-forever and always-love lisa h.
Lisa you have good taste.
leon was great...first heard lady blue when i was just a teenager...loved it
Lisa~ Is your dad Steve? Inquiring T Town girl just wondering. 🙂
Steve who? No my dad was Benjie Rabanal from Ha'aula homestead, surf board shaper, carpenterjourneyman. I married music, miss. I play guitar, ukelele, harmonica,, etc. I also work at the santa barbara bowl, the Arlington theater-name any band and I probably ushered one of their shows...🌺🌺🌺
Excellent and awesome!!!!
I like this version ... Saw Leon in Biloxi in 78' ... a remarkable musician.
Bill Janovitz' Leon Russell biography brings me here. Cheers! 🥨
totally ridiculously awesome
Thank you for making this available. This is, I think, the best song for melancholy periods.
You're so right. I am definitely melancholy.
Such an awesome song!!! I was raised loving Leon's music!! My parents played I'm all the time~~
Just because I love R&R to Heavy Metal~~I love all genres!!!
Charted at 63 on the Billboard country chart in '84
what a great song this is, I am impressed
simply grew up loving this one .....will always love it ...this is 100% proof why
One of my favorite singer/song writers.
Leon has that distinct twaaang to his voice that's unmistakable! I saw him live when he was hangin round with Joe Cocker back in the early 70's at "Pirates World" in Hollywood, Florida. He wore a black Top Hat on stage that night. Wow! I am old! My favorite Leon Russell song of all time is "A Song for You"! Thanks Mike!
He is absolute unique.
top notch Leon, top notch.
I enjoyed it thoroughly.
I really like this version. I had his Wedding Album. I wore it out.
Very good version, of this biutiful song. And takes me back on time as the original,
RIP Leon Russell

An amazing talent.
Disco and R&B are my favorite genres; however, I always can fit in Leon Russell music!!
That's definitely the best version of this song!Leon had a unique voice for sure. That song speaks to me alot even though I'm 65 in January.
This is the first time I heard his version of this tune. He did a nice job.

You were my favorite!!❤❤
and for decades i knew there was something by leon russel got got a few plays on the radio by this very talented man but quickly it was outta sight and then outta mind......thank you for refreshing that dormant brain cell. i love this version !
So much respect for the talent of Leon Russell.
With that said... it's actually Nicky Hopkins who played piano for the Stones. Another great musician whose style influenced some of the best music in rock history.
HMM.Live With Me.Great Stones song.Leon's piano is perfect on it.
Very best version.
How did we get from this kind of great music to pop country, hip hop and rap?
THAT is the $64,000 question! There's some good music out there but it seems garbage out numbers it.
Elton Fancher, I concur
I like this song and I like rap. It doesn't have to be one or the other. There's still good music out there if you have an open mind
@@swagswagimadolphin Hate rap .....
@@davidviar765 cool you dont have to like anything, but theres a lot of similarities to rap and country and thats why i enjoy both. Like when Waylon Jennings brags about having his name on the back of his shirt, it feels like the modern day equivalent is a rapper bragging about their clothes. I grew up in a time where music was easily accessible to me though, so if you're older i can see someone not willing to share this view
Love me some Leon; frim way back. Wish he'd tour
Thanks for the memories Leon my fav version RIP
I loved Leon's version of this excellent song after about 5 seconds. I didn't need to listen any further. Leon can sing just about any song. (Swoons)
sounds so jazzy, love it
Totally friggin excellent, the best version in my opinion, from Leon!!!
My first album was a double album by Leon Russell, rip brother
Sweet. Very nice. Sax is boss!
Leon is always in good taste....
"MASTER".....TEACHER....OWNER OF THE PURPLE HEART. 💜
Rest Easy Man !!
Leon Russell is going into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in a category that used to be called Sidemen. He was part of the Shindogs, the house band on the 1964-66 TV show "Shindig!". In fact, he is one of 2 "Shindig!" regulars going in this year. Darlene Love, who sang with the house girl group the Blossoms, is the other. A song he is famous for writing is "A Song For You". One of the most recent versions of it is by another 2011 RRHoF inductee, Neil Diamond, released on his 2010 album, "Dreams".
i recall having a record player as a kid the good old days
R.I.P Leon!! 11/13/2016
GREAT!
