umm... what does Russia hope to achieve with those sabotage acts? Scare the West into helping less? The most likely effect I would expect is that the attacked states come to the conclusion, the best way to protect our citizens is to help Ukraine win faster.

I'm a bit confused about the pejorative sense of "populism." I think FDR was a populist and won four terms as American President through the Depression and WWII. Is there a presumption that appealing to the people is not as clean and good as appealing to entrenched parties with entrenched ideologies, like the Greens or the whatevers?

When you say "extreme right wing" and "populism" what do you mean? UATV throws the phrase "right-wing" around all the time, usually with a nasty sneer, but without defining it. It seems that your idea of what it means is not at all consistent with its meaning over here on the other side of the pond.
I agree on being confused by the vocabulary. Conservative or "right wing" people disagree with other people on, say, immigration and ineffective, overgenerous social spending that discourages the nuclear family. But they're all people and so "populists."
