I got turned on to the D100 by my pro fashion photographer girlfriend at the time who was transitioning from film, Nikon were slow in coming out with their pro line so she switched to Canon but I liked the compactness of the D100 so I ended up buying one, even with the plastic mount kit lens it has produced memorable pictures. The original batteries still work although back in the day there was a recall so I got a fresh set free!
Raw (NEF) files on the D100 are significantly faster to write if you turn off compression in the settings. By default, compression is enabled. It takes around 45 seconds to write a file with compression enabled and around 4 seconds with compression disabled.
My first DSLR was a Canon 10D. The 6.3MP was not a problem I've made 16x20s from those files and if carefully taken, they'd be capable of going to 20x24. It's not always about the megapixels. Contemporary DSLRs tend to be too harsh to me. Although I'll still shoot digital, I've also gone back to shooting film (Nikon Ftn).
Great review! I recently got the Fuji s2pro, and as I understand it, the D100 and s2pro are nearly identical in body (both based on the Nikon F80 body). Anyway, I came to your channel for one of your earlier DSLR reviews, and I appreciate your perspective and thoroughness. I think I have the same taste in cameras, so it's nice to hear your insight. Thank you!!
Thank you very much for your comment! The D100 and S2 share the F80 body, but otherwise it's a bit different experience using them, the "digital parts" are very different between the cameras. I prefer the photos from the S2Pro, while the D100 has a better user experience. Especially the lithium-batteries on the D100 are preferable to the mixed battery solution on the S2!
Hello Have a Nikon D50 6MP and a D3000 10MP. Both works very well and good enough for me. Like the image quality and the files are good to handle. Have a nice time and Greetings from lower Bavaria :-).
hugely disappointing images made me so sad it was my fist digital cam and was given to me by a wedding fotog.... what junk omg so bad the images are just fuzzy they get sharp !!! Stay away great battery that held a charge for ever nut a clue about current or (?)
@@mikaelrphoto oh your right it may be something like that. It's in no way a pro camera. I used to run a costume B&W photo lab in the 80's Thank's, for giving me new hope. I'm not sure now that you mention it, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the was a problem. (?) bub sent the lens off alinement or some that could be repaired??? I would have brought it in to a repair shop if new now back then Thanks Paul P.s. I'll report back if there's any good news p.s.s. I could you some more good news this year 😀 after the last 3/4 years
Check out my Flickr page for a full resolution shot with the Nikon D100: flic.kr/s/aHBqjARmpm
It looks like the link is broken, none of the images are loading for me.

Have one and just got it refurbished. Happy to have it in my collection.

Yeah definitely, very nice prints can be made from 6mp, it's plenty enough for many purposes.

Yes, the mixed batteries is a bit of weirdness on the S2, but I do enjoy these older DSLRs. Looking forward to more of your videos. :)
You could try a different CF card to solve the error. Maybe it has problems writing to the card sometimes.
I tried with a 4gb one, and now it works without errors! Thanks for the tip!

Hello! The file size is definitely a nice thing about old DSLRs! Thank you very much for watching!
Were this sold with some stock lens?
I'm not sure if Nikon had made any Dx-lenses when this came out. Possibly it was combined with one of the 35mm standard zooms.
@@mikaelrphoto I ordered d100 with nikon 18-70 G lens. you think thats a good combo ?
@@HiCZoK Yeah it's a nice combo! the 18-70 was the kit lens of the D70 (the successor to the D100)
@@mikaelrphoto interesting! Thanks.

Maybe you just didn't know how to use it ,Nikon make awesome cameras , maybe you should stick to your phone camera
Strange, I thought it was a good camera. In fact, I still occasionally license shots I took with it.
I took my best pictures with this cameras, a bad worker always blames his tools.
The resolution might not be the highest, but I haven't had any problems with sharpness. Lens issue possibly?
