JHQ closure makes shops shut or relocate 25.03.13

  • As Headquarters British Forces Germany moves to Bielefeld this summer it will mark the end of the JHQ Rheindahlen Military Complex.
    The seventeen hundred people still living in JHQ all leave in August. But the base is also where several private businesses operate including hairdressers and travel agents. Now they must either relocate or close.

    I worked in the BP garage pushing petrol (on coupons) as a holiday job in the late 1960’s.
    This was over the road from the shops shown in this video.
    Great times, good friends and plenty of fun.
    So sad to see the state of it all now.

    O. Girkes insurance eventually closed down particularly in Sennelager where I had to switch my car insurance to a German company. Pretty sad to see the state of the place now, I was posted there as part of the Rhineland Security Force.
