i just realised, that there is no other producer which can touch dilla's level of detail than madlib. his beats are just insanely smooth and so well equalized and planned than even the best beat makers. madlib is a crazyyyy genius!!
Robert Calkins I think so. Kenny Dorham and Hank Mobley are just those names that didnt get big back then I guess and now looked upon as legends so all there records skyrocketed in value. I could be wrong but thats my guess. But I see fucked up hank mobley records sell for thousands same with kenny.
i live in east austin, a few minutes away from 'kenny dorham's backyard,' an outdoor venue near where he used to live, with food trucks and murals all over the place.
one of my favorite things to do is hop on the city bus with my headphones and bump hip hop while hittin up record stores all over austin, tx im in my own world and its awesome
i was once told creating a great song was like writing an essay.. you take concrete details (samples) and phase them into your music to support your production (commentary) and you make it all flow together.. a well put together song is like a well written essay
Much Love to the MAD... undeniably one of the most original producer/emcee on the set... this particular album brought me closer to understanding the true essence of the link between jazz and hip-hop. GENIUS

It's funny how Doom and Madlib collaborate. Madlib obsesses over his beats consatanly and Doom walks around his house which is covered in Microphones just rapping randomly. Awesome. Finally some art, instead of that recycled Soulja Boi or Lil wayne shit.
Not at alll related, but why are there no laptops with the notepad on the right side of the keyboard (instead of the repeated digits) instead of in front of it? it'd be so much more convenient.
ANYONE WHO WANTS MADLIB's RARE ALBUM "62 BEATS" IN MP3, FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER (MARS_III), and I will bless you with the link on there once you ask me for it on there!
this still remains as one of the chillest songs AND videos i've seen. not even my favorite Madlib beat..but its the perfect "background" song...you could do anything w/ this song. jog while listening to it, paint, clean your room, party, cruise around the streets, have a meal...DAMN lol.
he doesn't have to clear samples for projects on "minor" labels, but for major ones he has to. for shades of blue, blue note records gave him original master reels of all those songs he remixed.
The coolest thing about Madlib is; he just makes music for fun. Which allows him to create whatever he wants freely. He's not concerned on whether it is liked or not. He's going to keep making tunes for his own sake and if many just so happen to bop their heads to it, then he's like "Oh, you like that? Nice!"
spit raps, got a cold hit up the tip tap, drink some water and stop snifflin, cuz your dribblin, you neeed that sounds remedy let me prepare you some more instantly. Its mad lib in the space bnetween your head rots behind your face.
@cervantez0l5 i would rather listen to the original gene harris song & the song he jacked the beat from (lyric fathom) than this...which made me sad cos i really love madlib & was enjoying a nice smoking session listening to his stuff. he is normally better than retreading old ground covered by other (equally excellent) dj's & doing it so much less interestingly. just imho. he just snitched a great beat...& made it more like the original...what was the point of that?
I've always hated hip-hop/rap because I overgeneralized it to be gay sounding like half the main stream shit that is out there, but than I found out about all these hip-hop producers like Madlib, J-Dilla, and etc. who don't even have to say anything in there music to appeal to their audience to be "cool" they just let there music do it for them...and if they do rap, its not about banging ho's 24/7..anyways madlib is the shit
what do you mean by cleared? Do you mean how they remove the instruments from samples so that it is just a voice sample? You either obtain the master which, depending on how it is recorded, will have a voice track. Or there are other processes that are more complicated which involve using a instrumental version and a normal version, in which you match it up perfectly and the instrumentals will go away (not exactly sure how it works, but theres youtube videos explaining it)
i spit the real shit, know what deal is, the flames be so close to your soul you can feel it, mc shkon on a roll with stone cold steel shit, can u understand, dont think so, got the plan down like stencil, type a nigga to perfect a song with no pencil, the rightful prince yo, the generation moved on, i stayed back make sure your gone.
hey does any one know this song. its not a link to get hacked or other bull shit. i've been trying to find this song for like more then a few years this one sound's like it has the beats as this one. just a link to another you tube video Orangutan Island Premiere on Animal Planet- Wild 100 not a link just copy paste to find it on youtube thanks
Or if your talking about clear as in obtain the rights of it.. well then theres multiple ways of doing this. You can either purchase samples from the record company, do it illegally (its not as risky as some might think). I believe theres a law that says if the sample is X number of years old or more, than you can use it for free legally.
LISTEN! cratediggers all around the world! i got a question: Whats the name of that madlib-track when their is that voice singin "mr. madlib....mr madlib..."...I WANNA KNOW! fastest answerer gets a "thumb up" from me"!!!!! yeah you heard it right a freakin "THUMB UP"
@stonesthrow yall should check out the beat tape on my page ( the link is in the description of the vid that comes up ) Dilla & FlyLo fans have been diggin it ... i think yall would too . Im 17 yrs old onna mission for 10 years straight now . -FoXxXy
You are witnessing a TRUE hip hop artist, not a rapper, not a producer, not a beat maker but a painter of rhythm. This cat been digging in crates WAY before it was cool. And WAAAY after it was necessary. In a word? Authentic. Give it up.
Not sure what you guys are smoking...this guy's overrated as hell. He puts a lot of effort into his beats but they always come out wack. Like, this kind of sound might have recieved some praise in the 80's or some shit but he's wack now....needs to retire.
this is great in that it shows a real ability to generate a fantastic tune out of sampling and an innate ability to bring a beat together.but where is it in 'king of wigflip'? It's just a few small ideas strung together
@RecklessWonders A full dj premier/madlib album that could be nothing only a pure hip hop classic!I wonder if we'll ever see that one day..The 2 best hip hop producers on the planet on one nice long album!
I need a modern blaxploitation film completely composed and scored by Madlib.
Damn, that's thinking! I've ever thought of that!
Like Black Dynamite 2
I don't know how it hasn't happened yet he's perfect for it
Dope idea.
The dislike button on certain songs should have some kind of shock collar effect.

This might be the only music video for a pre-2009 song that Ive seen on YT that was actually uploaded in 2006. Stones Throw was ahead of the game.
For real, youtube was only a year old
one of my favorite things to do is hop on the city bus with my headphones and bump hip hop while hittin up record stores all over austin, tx
