The origin of these dances are in Spain. Have a look to Jotas aragonesas. La Jota is the tradicional dance of Spain, so it is more Spanish than Mexican.
When you compare a Filipino folk dance to the rest of Southeast Asian dances, its the odd one out. We cannot deny that it has the same elements as Mexican and other Latin American, lively, colorful and vibrant. Southeast Asian dances are more conservative movements, slow and lots of gestures.
That is only one layer you are looking at and not the full spectrum .. the ifugaos, the maranaws, the b'laans and other lumads, what about them? Even with the Hispanized Filipino there are regional variations that can only be considered ethnic.. itik itik, sayaw sa bangko, manlalatik. We are not the odd one out .. we are the the most diverse one of the whole lot. That's our culture .. very welcoming.
