This mall was amazing hope it open back up. So sad all my memories at this mall have vanished. I remember when my grandma would surprise me at my house when I was two and she said that we were going to the mall. Wish this awesome mall would re-open
Dude I was born in 2013 and I remember when my grandma used to take me here although I just know it four years i still remember all the green walls and me playing with my aunt and this is my favorite malls still writing this is so hard because I just remember all the memories 😭
Stratford mall is next on the chopping block it seems. I remember this mall being busy when I was a kid. the last year you were able to walk around freely in it was like 2016-17
I grew up near Woodfield Mall which is still in great shape but I went to this mall a few times as a kid in the late 90’s and early 2000’s because I had a family friend that lived out in nearby South Elgin. This mall was at that time was pretty popular they used to have a merry go round in the food court I went on as a kid. But what ultimately doomed this mall was a few things. Around 2010 or so this mall saw a lot of stores leaving because in neighboring Geneva is the Geneva Commons which was more up to date and people were shopping there instead. Not to mention this mall has absolutely no access to any nearby highways, it’s way west on North Ave a good 20 minutes from I-355, about 20 minutes south of I-90 and 15 minutes north of I-88 so convenience is definitely not in favor of this mall whereas Woodfield is right next to both I-90 and I-290/53. Add in the online shopping like Amazon killing malls and this mall was pretty doomed
The last time I remember this mall being more than 70 percent occupied was in 2003. The Geneva Commons took all their business. I remember when Charlestowne had a movie memorabilia store and also a sports memorabilia store in the food court wing. They also had two bookstores, it used to be one of my favorite malls. When I moved back to the area in 2008, most of this mall was already nearly dead, although they still had all their anchors at the time. It was really dead for the last 7 or 8 years.
Yeah I think this was one of those malls that never took off and reached its full potential because it was very close to other malls and those other malls are dying as well
I used to live not too far from this mall, I moved away in 2001 and seen it like this is depressing, I remember back in the 90s this malls business was booming, some of the most memorable was Waldenbooks, Saturday matinee, The timeout arcade, The carousel in the food court, That pizza place called Sbarro, The great steakhouse, A lot of memories from my childhood

As several of us once joked on Dead Malls Enthusiasts, The Quad- the number of stores left in the mall. LOL! Joking aside, it looks like ALMOST nothing has occurred to this property, since the current owner shut down the mall in last 2017. Other than some limited drywalling, inside the mall structure in a few places. I know as of late the owner has floated a new plan to tear down the mall structure, and redevelop the mall property into mixed uses such as townhomes. I do wonder if the redevelopment idea will actually succeed? I worry it won't, but I hope I'm proven wrong and it succeeds myself.
For the most part, I never really cared for this mall. It was decent in the '90s but post 2k... it seemed to be mediocre. It killed one of my favorite theaters: Foxfield. In hindsight, they just should've revamped the old St. Charles Mall on Rt. 38 instead of building this.
Exactly this was one mall that either should not have been built or it should have been built along the Randall Road Corridor. However a little over 10 years later Geneva Commons built their Mall and took a lot of stores from Charlestown Mall.

grew up going to this mall i even took christmas pictures there as a little kid, genuinely cried watching this

Sears, J.C. Penney, Carson Perie Scott, and Kohl’s. How are those brands doing in 2024?
I moved to South Elgin, IL in 2000. I was only in this mall once during the 2000's and it was dying then.
Stratford mall is next on the chopping block it seems. I remember this mall being busy when I was a kid. the last year you were able to walk around freely in it was like 2016-17
IL-64 is a traffic cluster through St. Charles. Had this mall been where the outlet mall in Aurora is (off I-88) it would still be open today.
Feels like Fast Times Ridgemont High
also it was the geneva commons that mostly took this mall out pretty much the only thing open is that movie theater
I’m so thankful that the malls near me are doing great. It’s crazy how some areas in the US malls are booming and in other areas they’re dead.
gr86 toyota commercial was filmed here :D
How's the Peru Mall doing? Last I saw in 2018 it was dead.
Thanks for preserving mall history.
Peru Mall isn't doing well. Very few stores left
I miss this mall so much
Child hood memories, early 2000s
I also hate Amazon!!

Cool
This place had the BEST 2 story merry go round

This mall only lasted 26 years.
The mall never seemed all that busy.?
Yeah I think this was one of those malls that never took off and reached its full potential because it was very close to other malls and those other malls are dying as well
Went there in the 90s once seemed dead then compared to fox valley.
The area was overmalled
It would be awesome to get into there and take a look around.
Yeah I wish I could but I think it's alarmed and everything and the police watch it as well
I hate Geneva commons
This mall was dying in the late 90s.

Not too long after you moved away in 2001, in 2002 Geneva Commons on the other end of town opened up and took a lot of stores away from the mall
I currently live in the St charles area and yes Randall Road is Huge it was sad to see the mall go, At least the Movies still there
Did you do a abandoned video of the last Kmart in IL
Yes I did and abandoned video and a couple years before that I actually did a store tour of it
Toyota filming was great here
This mall just looks depressing
Toyota filmed a promo for their new gr86 at the mall
Good bye mall

Yeah, all they did was put a fence up in places. Move the theater entrance to a hidden place. I will believe the plans when i see them
My friend and I walked around the mall and it’s completely abandoned (besides the theater and von maur) it’s a literal ghost town
