Louie’s sheer commitment to this role makes every scene he’s in amazing. He’s not just playing a man in drag for cheap laughs. He’s embodying a real character that he respects and cares about.
Not since Divine have I seen a man portray a middle aged woman so well -- leading me to forget they aren't actually female. Louie deserved ALL the awards, no wonder the show began to steer more towards Christine.
In my 20s I was homeless and living in Las Vegas. And on Thanksgiving @the shelter I looked up from my plate and there was Louie Anderson with an apron on asking me if I would like more milk. I was in shock and all I could think to say was, I loved your show Life with Louie. He smiled said thank you and continued to serve the homeless while treating them as equals.
Wow. Somehow that is so Louis. Beautiful story. Thanks for sharing it. Are you doing well now? I may be homeless myself pretty soon. Hope there's a Louis in my future! We'll see. Life is one big adventure.
I forget where I saw it but when Zack G. and Louis C.K. were coming up with the idea for the show they wanted a mother character that sounded like Louie Anderson so Louis C.K. was like "why don't we just have Anderson play the part?" and he called him right there on the spot. They gave Anderson a brief pitch and he was immediately on board.
I missed this show all together. Just this little scene I heard several lines that are an exact match for things my mom has and would say. Louie was perfect in the role. What a sweetheart. We'll miss him always.
Its exactly how I felt when my mom took a hit off a joint that my cousins Venezuelan boyfriend was passing around! This scene hits too close to home...
To be honest I used to not be much of a fan of Louie, but Christine Baskets is hands down one of the greatest television characters of all time. I swear he was born to play that amazing woman. This show will be missed.
I grew up in St. Paul not too far from where Louie grew up. I'm so sorry I'm just becoming aware of this role now the day he died. What a great acting job he did in this! Louie will be greatly missed.
So many comedians just wrote him off and made fun of his weight for years and he took it so gracefully. I’m glad he got respected for his true talent before we lost him.
I once came home late and my sister was teaching our mom how to smoke a joint. I'm sure my mother had had a couple drinks prior to that, because she was willing to try it. Years later, when I would chide her about it, she'd flat out deny that it ever happened!
Little side note: Disney's live animated cartoon "Song of The South" main character "Uncle Remis" was played by actor JAMES BASKET! He also won an honorary Oscar for his portrayal of that role for 1948 ;)
It's so subtle. He doesn't try a falsetto or to be flamboyent; He just makes his voice a little softer and his tone a little sweeter, and suddenly he's a great mom
Christine was everyone's mom for a few years while this show was on. Louie absolutely deserved an Emmy for this. Rest well, buddy.
I agree.
Totally agree with you. Fantastic acting. I will miss Louie
I believe he did win one and was nominated twice!
Yes ❤
Louie’s sheer commitment to this role makes every scene he’s in amazing. He’s not just playing a man in drag for cheap laughs. He’s embodying a real character that he respects and cares about.
I forget that it's Louise Anderson, a man, completely while watching this show. Such a great performance
He said in interviews he bases the character after his own mother
Agree. Straight up killing it and it's fun to watch
i like that. bc a straight male wld normally make fun of it and call it comedy, while funny still perpetuating hate and phobia. i agree with u.

Him dying today hurt. This role was insanely great. Whoever cast him and wrote it was as brilliant as his performance in it.

@@_SoCalDude_ I love it a plan comes together.❤️
@@_SoCalDude_ - very interesting, thanks.
I loved this show!
This scene alone was enough to earn him that Emmy. He will be missed. What a great loss.
Louie deserved an Emmy for this, he was absolutely incredible. And you just KNOW that he channeled his own mother in this performance.
He won an Emmy for this role.
He was beyond brilliant in this role. Drop dead hilarious and somehow also very profound.

Louie plays this part so well its funny
it's pretty amazing
It's like she's an actual 60 year old women
Chip puts on the apron: "It still fits". Such perfect sincere, subtle, and hilarious delivery!
Louie Anderson in a wig is a more convincing mom than actual moms
"Mom, you're weird enough...no!" I can just hear my kids saying this to me. Thanks for the laughs! :)
It's the best line. I was going to comment on it, then I saw you'd already done so!

We lost a good one today. Rest well, Louie
I am happy to see people finding out about a comic who was vastly underrated. Rock on Louie!

I can watch Christine all day doing errands. Miss this show

RIP Louie you made my mother and I laugh our asses off watching baskets together :3
RIP, Louie…I miss you already!
Rip Louis Anderson, thanks for making our lives happier
I grew up in St. Paul not too far from where Louie grew up. I'm so sorry I'm just becoming aware of this role now the day he died. What a great acting job he did in this! Louie will be greatly missed.

“WEEE HAVE ARRRIVED! Take a deep breath!! Ooooh we’re home!”
I died hahaha
RIP Louie, you were amazing in Baskets and I loved your Saturday morning cartoon when I was a child in the 90's.
Life with Louie :’(
I was wondering recently when Basket’s was coming back on. So sad to hear of Mr. Anderson’s passing. What a sweet man he was.
Louis was the only performer I knew who could make you laugh/cry at exactly the same moment.
With the wig he kinda looks like Kathy Bates 😂😂 rest easy big Louie.
This is the best show on Tv right now. It's so emotionally true, it hurts.
Rip Louie. We love ya bud
Word
Seemed like a great soul
What a lost to his family & friends
What? Mom. No . You're weird enough. Don't do that..."
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Louie Anderson does not get enough recognition for his part in this show.
He won an Emmy & a bunch of other awards..
The dude won an Emmy but I understand
Such a great series start to finish.
This show... We are lucky to have it.
Just started watching this show a few hours ago. It's quite endearing and original. The parts with Louie are definitely the highlight.
He's so good. I love this character.
This was waaaaaaay better than all the trailers.
Love that “DO I?!” Louie dropped to his normal voice 🤣🤣
I have been binge watching since Louie passed. I absolutely love the Reagan episode.
So sad about this loss. RIP Louie. There will never be another Christine, one of the greatest and most poignant TV characters of all time.
R.I.p to a legend
Louie Anderson was brilliant. RIP
Louis. What a brilliant performer.
Rip uncle louie. Theres levels to comedy as you showed.
If only everyone was lucky enough to have a mom like Christine.
Louie made this as touching as funny.
I once came home late and my sister was teaching our mom how to smoke a joint. I'm sure my mother had had a couple drinks prior to that, because she was willing to try it. Years later, when I would chide her about it, she'd flat out deny that it ever happened!
How did I never know about this show. He was so funny
I love that the manager at the Arby's is a kind supportive friend who seems to care about his workers. Not a stereotype.
Louie was such a natural actor.
But how did I fall in love with Christine baskets, I would love for her to be part of my family. Louie Anderson is amazing
He will be missed 😞
I miss this man dearly...
His cartoon was great too ❤😇
Rip buddy thanks for the laughs.
I hope Louie's headstone says "cocoon for the cloon"
Louie Anderson is great as the mom!!
RIP Louie a true gem
Little side note: Disney's live animated cartoon "Song of The South" main character "Uncle Remis" was played by actor JAMES BASKET!

RIP Louie Anderson God bless your soul.
DO I !!??? It makes me crack up every time!!
I've got to do this next time I go to Arby's!
I'm literally about to go there right now! Lmao 😂
'You're weird enough' classic!!
I swear this is my aunt to a T. Looks, the voice and mannerisms...
Best Thanksgiving feast ever
He deserved an award
He had the munchies lmao
Louie Andersons best work ever.
I wish Christine was my next door neibourgh
That is a remarkable way to spell "neighbor ." Well done.
I will always love you Louie
This makes me miss my mama 💔
"You're weird enough mom." Classic
RIP Louie ☺
RIP Louie Anderson, keep em rolling in the aisles up there.
"I'm home" 😭

Lovely AF. 🤩
Never knew of this show.
Louie in drag. Wonderful.
Better than drag.
clever performances
Louie has very nice hands
I never really watched the show, but every time I see clips, I forget its Louie for a moment.
Best tv mom ever!! 💖
God, I miss Louie so much, someone please tell me how he did not get a best actor Emmy every year of that series.
Louie does a great job changing his voice to play the part of a woman.
True or False
I was watching a Conan interview and apparently, he decided not to change his voice... Its kinda awesome
It's so subtle. He doesn't try a falsetto or to be flamboyent; He just makes his voice a little softer and his tone a little sweeter, and suddenly he's a great mom
Who wouldn’t love being in that Arby’s with mom! Rest easy Louie…
Cmon Louie! Should have taken them to McDowells!
Rip
RIP King…or Queen
“My friends would smoke and I would get the munchies”
Wow....was that a blooper reel?
R.I.P to the goat
You know you're stoned when you get hungry
RIP Louie
Watching Zach watch Louie, it's hard to tell if Zach is admiring Louie or if Chip is enjoying seeing his mom happy.
Wild seeing Mama Baskets smoking dope.
Yeah, that first face as she's holding it in after the toke.
Nobody tell her, but I'm sure Ronald Reagan would not have approved.
Cap’n HeeHee Regan probably smoked too, just kept it out of public image
@@reekofilmz4728 True that! We know his daughter did. Natural until they messed with it by adding harsh chemicals to pot.
