    Love your blouse! Thank you for reminding us to make ordinary things special. I recently started making my little children hot cocoa with homemade whipped cream every morning and they love it. And we decorate with fairy lights year round to make the atmosphere cozy.

    Good Morning Diane from the very hot and stormy upstate NY. This vintage Diane in Denmark popped up for me to view today! Such a cute picture, a few hair styles back and certainly prior to dressing your truth! What a nice treat for us / me - How amazing your channel has grown. 75, 000 of us all around the world! 💙

    Thank you for always always always brightening up my day. My mother always tried to make the holidays really special and even the day to day meals nice too. It felt over the top but looking back it was very hyggë. I do my hygge in a less formal way and the best design compliment I ever got was “Your house is so comfortable.” I want everyone to feel comfy when they’re here. They don’t need to feel nervous at our house. I hope to make our next house just as hyggely.

    Love your videos! This one really resonated with me . My lovely sister in law was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago, a very aggressive form of cancer. After a year of treatment and surgery the cancer worsens. Our hearts are broken as she has been given 6-18 months to live possibly. We are always hopeful. But, that said , we have had a greater wake up call to enjoy each day and make it a treasured time but also simple so not to exhaust anyone. So, your words today are a continued reminder. Thank you !

    We live very near a candle factory (they made the candles for Harry Potter - all hand dipped!) so we have an excellent supply....we always light candles for our meals, but I need to be getting them elsewhere, there is nothing quite like it. It is 14/8/2019 today and very damp and dark, in fact we've barely made it over 16 degrees for most of the summer although the long evenings of light have been wonderful, just don't miss the heat of the south! But it is starting to feel as if we are already moving towards autumn (put the fires back on last night after only about 5 weeks without them!) and although I struggle with the long dark winters, I do look forward to the candles, the fire, crafting and sturdy, warming meals. Thanks for this video Diane, it calms me to watch you, and you are my pamper time xx

    Watching this now, in 2020 in the middle of a pandemic, the words are ringing so true! You never know what is coming! Plan and enjoy whatever you can! During this lockdown and now with just the isolating, I’m really trying all of these things. I’ve started setting myself a beautiful table at night just for me. Using my good clothes! LOL I always do my hair and make up every day. I love the rituals! It’s just great advice. There are no guarantees

    I just bought some pretty umbrellas just to use for walking in the rain. I found some with designs based on art on ebay for as little as $8 each, so I bought 3. That might sound like a lot, but I hadn't bought a new umbrella for 14 years.

    I no longer save things for another day, a better day, a special day. Thank you for reminding that every day is a special one. I have started to light candles now to bring calm and peace and to make the home hygge-ly. It does help on those dragging-your-feet days! I have observed a sad state: people buy expensive scented candles for decoration and the wicks have never been lit😣😑 Yes, why are they saving them? And one last thought. I have always dreaded Fall.... the cold, cloudy, rainy days. After seeing your example of cheer over the past years, even in " dull and grey Copenhagen weather," I have decided to take joy in my least favorite season and embrace the rain and cool temps. I thought to myself, "That's a lot more days to be Happy, when adding in the "not sunny" days as cheerful ones!"

    • @thepeddler9226
      @thepeddler9226 5 років тому

      Funny enough all the scented candles in my house are gifts that I didn't like and will not lit. After reading this comment I decided to get rid of them - decluttering. Thank you for the reminder, Nicole

      Candles can be bad for the air when certain chemicals get into the air- and also always a risk for fire - they aren’t allowed in some places and it was really sad as recently an entire huge home
      That was apartments for 5 families burned down due to one candle . All the people are okay but housing is so tight here it’s really a crisis for all of them . I wish someone hadn’t lit that candle that day :(

    Love this concept and your videos. For those of you reading this and suffering from depression I know you can’t “choose” happiness. That’s like asking a color blind person to choose to see blue. It adds to the stigma around mental illness. It just makes me feel guilty for being depressed. I didn’t chose this. I love your videos but this one stung.

    • @DianeinDenmark
      @DianeinDenmark  2 роки тому

      Hi Merrick! You are absolutely right about depression, it is not a choice. This video is talking about the Danish art of hygge. Reframing what we have around us, being deliberate in looking after ourselves daily. I hope it gave you some ideas on how to add some hygge to your day! 🖐😀

I kind of get stuck in overdrive and forget to enjoy the moment. You know ever since you mentioned about your dad listening to James Last music I’ve been playing it on my cell phone with my earbuds. I watch Dawn, The Minimal Mom and yesterday she and Diana talked about "HYGGE" and I'd never heard that word before and really had no idea what they were speaking about!
    So thanks for the HYGGE info!
    Much appreciated!!
    I totally agree that we should use our things and not just store them! I have been trying my hardest to unstore things ( think declutter) from my house!
    I'll be 62 in June and I Divorced after being married for 35 years. I still have things in that house which is where my ex lives still. I brought quite a lot of you might almost say "junk" and put it up here in this house attic! All of it needs to be gone through and Decluttered and hopefully sentimental items given away!
    They of course are my worst thing to try to get rid of. I love your channel are used to be a subscriber I have not really sure why I unsubscribed except that I had subscribe just so many channels I didn't know if I was coming or going!!
    Take care Diane!
    And, happy hygge-ing!
    (oh, and by the way. I live in the states, in northern Illinois.
    When I was in high school our orchestra went for a competition in Denmark 🇩🇰
    Around circa summer of '74 I was in Denmark. When we were doing the competition we were seeing the sights and Denmark.
    We also took a ferry over to Sweden and we also drove to where we could stand in Germany!
    We got to stay with house parents for one week and we stayed one week in a building on sleeping bags. I have no idea where we were at this point I don't know if I have a record of it anywhere over in the other house's attic.
    I'm not sure quite how OR WHY they allowed it, but the adult chaperones let us just run around and we went to the bar and parties at 15 years old!!
    I think they told us to stay in a group but honestly I do not remember. My friend and I always stayed together so we never went anywhere just with one person.
    She was my very best friend and unfortunately somehow we got split up during the homestay so she was with one house and I was with a different girl in a home. The house parents were very very nice!
    My mother helped me send all of them gifts when I got back home.
    People did that sort of thing, back in the day.
    Seems not so much these days unfortunately.
    They even let us take the city bus unchaperoned. Honestly, I kept thinking we were lucky we were all in one piece to go back to the states!
    ❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️ 🇩🇰 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰😘

    Thanks Diane. You are awesome! It's very interesting to get a perspective from another country. I'm just starting to work with a flylady system and I like the idea, the intention, the practice of Danish hygge. The winter bathing is fascinating but, I couldn't do it, I don't think.. here in northern Michigan, where we are also going into the colder and darker days ahead, some people like to jump in the snow after a sauna. That I could manage. I'm sure it's very invigorating to jump in the sea but looking at those icy docks on another video! Lol thanks again for the Inspiration and encouragement in introducing fly lady principles and more.

    Always love a reminder to hygge! I need to pick some fresh flowers for my kitchen table today - after it stops raining! Hygge should have been one of the first words in my Danish language lessons (started again to practice my Danish- good to keep your mind learning!). But I think these language programs are pretty generic so tbey can use the same platform for many languages. Miss my Danish class but it is a pain to drive through rush hour traffic to get to. That was NOT hygge!
