  • In this video, we delve into the differences between OCS (Officer Candidate School) and G2G (Green to Gold) - two commissioning options available in the U.S. Army. While this video doesn't cover all the details, we provide a comprehensive overview to help you understand the key distinctions. OCS is open to both uniformed service members and civilians, while G2G is exclusively for uniformed service members.
OCS requires a minimum bachelor's degree, whereas G2G allows you to work towards your degree. OCS involves a 12-week training course, while G2G is a 2-4 year ROTC program alongside college education.
We also discuss the evaluation process, job choices, and the board process for both options.

    Retired 0-5. Past E-6.
    Finally making my shadow box.
But, my best decoration is the good conduct medal.
Thank you for educating so many people.

I'm on the ropes on what to do.
I'm set to graduate from college, fall 23' (STEM).
I've taken the ASVAB and scored a 99 (138 GT). However, my GPA won't be competitive (3.1-3.2) and I don't have many extracurriculars/volunteer hours under my belt. I also don't have many people (of status or notoriety) that I can go to for genuine letters of recommendation. Further, I still need to get a psych waiver (I'm confident in getting this).
I'm fit enough (avg 570+ on the acft) but feel like I won't make the cut into OCS when considering my other application weaknesses.
My alternate plan is to enlist (MOS 15C) and submit a warrant officer packet when I'm able. Either that or take the G2G route after having gained more experience.
Any advice or wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Good info. When I was in, OCS candidates received E-6 pay. I was always enlisted, but I had a few buddies who went through OCS, and one who went through ROTC. I specifically remember looking at my friend's MyPay pay stub saying E-6 pay, despite the fact that he was an E-4, due to him being in OCS. When did they get knocked down to E-5 pay?

The tip I give anyone that will listen, is to invest in learning your purpose in life because that will drive the leader you will be and the career you will choose.

Hey I just found your channel and I have a question about entering from the civilian side. So I have a degree but I have been trying to enlist in the Army since March of this year. I’m just waiting on medical clearance but I know that will go through. The catch is now I’m really considering commissioning instead. Would you say that if I tell my recruiter to flip the script that it’ll take me a whole year to reach OCS on top of however long I have to wait for clearance? Btw thanks for making this video.

You won’t have to wait a year, just tell your recruiter that you want to go to basic training as a Commissioned Officer Candidate (09S), this means you’ll have to complete Basic Training and go to OCS afterwards…
