i'm a tree lover and especially love drawing trees. i've been steadily working through your how to draw trees playlist, it's been super helpful and the references you use are so diverse and fun!!
Always love looking into a different artist's perspective and adding some nuance to the craft... Worth saying somewhere, that in the States, there is a Florida "Palm"... that's NOT exactly a palm tree. It's actually akin to a Yucca, and like the Yucca, it actually HAS long slender SINGULAR leaves the way you would draw the first of these, two... all "tongue shaped" or "grass like" as it looks... The most major difference, however, is in the trunk (at least as viewed from a distance)... The Yucca-palm in Florida has a slight bulge toward the bottom that just hints at an almost "pear shape"... AND the "bark" texture is more ragged, with dead leaf material still dangling well after the leaves would normally drop off. Instead these leaves just get more and more battered, raggedy, and stringy over time... I'd love to give a species name, but "Florida's Yucca Palm" is about the best I can recall... not a resident of Florida, I'm afraid... This isn't an excuse to "cartoonify" or get lazy... Just for some artists either hunting through web picture or who seem to remember a palm like that somewhere... NO, you're not crazy... AND nobody is lying about them... Most common people DO think those are palm trees, at least until they start trying to trim them up for a manicured look, or cut one down... AND then they find everything about it NOT even being treelike in the slightest... at least internally... haha... In any case, there are LOTS of different kinds of palm trees, and it's fun to try and differentiate between them all... Worth fiddling with... ;o)
Thanks. Kind of you to say. I’ve just posted a video to celebrate my first million views on UA-cam with my considered top three tips from all the advice/ teaching that I’ve given in over 470 videos. Have a look if you’re interested. 😀
