I got well into programming the 606 back in the day. Then came a time when you couldn't give them away and no-one wanted them anymore. Ah wish I still had it!
I got to catch the last couple minutes of this premier after an Organic Chemistry final... Let's just say thanks for for making my day a little better.
Wow the kick sounds amazing! All the mods sound great except I’m VERY wary of messing with the hats - decay sure, but the filter mod detracts from the beautiful harsh hissy 606 hats to my ears. I even have mine modded with an input to the hihat filter so I can turn other sounds into hissy, shrill versions of themselves ❤️
Unfortunately even a modded DR110 sounds weak compared to the 606 in original form. Many thought it was a substitute for the 606 but that was never the case.
This is sacrilege. Tasty, room-shaking awesome sacrilege. :-) You know that I share your love of the 606, for the same reasons you state, but this does sound really tasty...and gets around a lot of the original interface issues of the 808! Good luck, Filippo, I'm sure he'll be a busy man now!
I have a volca drum and beats, but I’ve been looking to upgrade from them. I was think pico system 2 but now that you shared the 608 I think I found my replacement drum module! Thank You! 🤘😈
Second drum machine I owned was a TR-606, back when they were cheap as chips (my first drum machine was the Korg KPR-77, a great machine but just like my 606 I didn't have the manual and it was not as intuitive). My 606 had the multiple outputs mod, so I used to feed the kick through a cheap distortion pedal for added impact. I soon added a Boss DR-110, since I loved the analogue clap sound. I eventually "upgraded" to a TR-808, but was disappointed to find that my one at least didn't have as much punch as the 606. Now, twenty years later, I have Behringer's 606 clone which also has the DR-110 clap and I'm in analogue dru machine heaven :-D
Wow! Great vid, great sounds and thanks for making me regret selling mine 20 years ago haha. I didn’t know of it’s secrets, but now I do. Maybe I can find another cheap again
When I bought mine (used unit from series 250***), I thought I got a faulty unit because of that „Brizzl“ on the Bass Drum and Toms. But it seems that is characteristic to the 606. It's even more pronounced on your unit. What I think sounds even better than on a 808 are the Hi Hats and Cymbals.
Hainbach, I seriously recommend the Boutique Tr-06. It sounds to me like roland recreated the 606 with all the complaints you had in mind. It has different kick tones with a bunch of menu options to change the tuning and decay of every sound. And it also has just a lovey 5 patch outputs for certain channels which has infinite potential in the modular realm. It also is able to process mixed in sounds with its effects. Very nice upgrade to the classic 606. I can’t say much for whether or not it is sonically accurate to the original but I can say it sounds great! Very beefy when you want it
I guess another way around this is you don't like the sound of some of the drums in a TR-606... is don't use those and supplement it with another drum machine/tone module... NAH! WTF am I thinking... that there is just a stupid idea Steve-o

bought mine in 1996 for $50 dollars, short of wished i still had it
this is great! the hihats on the 606 are my favourite of any electronic hat sounds
Yeah, and now they can morph to tiny clicks. I could have made the video of me doing that for half an hour alone 😄
and the best sounding cymbals.
I have to agree.
I agree too :)
@@Hainbach me 2! Thanks for sharing! :D
That's a great mod. Fixes all the shortcomings of the original.
Spotted a Korg X-911 and FK-1 in the background there too. :)
This is so rare to see mods that are actually useful for music making ! Your unit is unbelivable, it's like a holy relic, but in a good way :o
I don't think I've seen too many that aren't useful
I wondering what hellscape you've been living in
REMEMBER
IF YOU MOD YOUR TR606 YOU MIGHT INVALIDATE THE WARRANTEE

Damn Roland and their limited 40 year warranty!
@@adams5389 totally MMD/made me LOL have a nice one too!

so glad to see all the love for the 606. my first setup was one of these and a Roland MC-202. both gone and I miss them dearly
I love this! I got an RD6 with the intention to mod. I think it's going to be feeling the business end of my soldering iron this weekend
yesss.. my desire to buy & mod a RD6 is *triggered* Somebody has to call Maffez @MuffWigglers for writing a tutorial how2 mod the RD6!! LOL
@@mightymike1978 maffez doht cea oh emm dude, its all there
@@mycosys thanx Mijc I am sorry, don‘t comprehend. Could you please paraphrase/explain what you meant?
i love the look of that device ,black and orange reminds me of boss distortion units
it sounds very good , not very 808 ..it sounds more original ,similar to renditions of it like jomox and mfb have created

This is great. Sounds incredible. That kick really SLAMS now!
Very nice! I did an extensive mod like this to a Boss DR-110 back in the day. Sounded amazing
Unfortunately even a modded DR110 sounds weak compared to the 606 in original form.
Many thought it was a substitute for the 606 but that was never the case.
As always, great content, Hainbach! Looking forward to more.
I've got six 606's and some with mods, but this seems extra interesting! TM404 needs this!
Very nice mod and the perfect blend of 'those' drum sounds everyone just needs. It's almost as good as your oscilloscope sweater/jumper 😉😉
Spicy! We need a Hainbach TR-608 plugin next 😎
Always loved the 606 and it's baby brother the DR-110. great mod

That thing looks badass! I love it! Sounds great too! Nice jam.
Love that piece of music you're playing there!
But first…let’s hear how this mod sounds - proceeds to blow up screen! Love it
Thank you so much for this. I've been wanting a mod like this for a very long time.
Sounds phenomenal. I want one! :D
Looks and sounds beautiful! Also very musical demos and not only a bunch of knobs tweaking! Thanks :)
If I were a richer man...... outstanding piece of kit. Cue the applause
I have a volca drum and beats, but I’ve been looking to upgrade from them. I was think pico system 2 but now that you shared the 608 I think I found my replacement drum module! Thank You! 🤘😈
layer both of them 👍🏻
or use the volca drum for percussion, lately I've been making tones from the volca drum and drums from my vintage synths
It sounds so huge! Cool
Love the groove at the end of the vid 😃
You are my favorite actor in the movie "Hackers".

I can totally get down with that! Sounds awesome!
Could u do this to a berhinger 606
This plus a quicksilver mod would be awesome if they work together.
Hainbach has all the cool toys!
Are all the sounds coming from the 608? That thing sounds massive.
Wow!!! This really opens this machine right up \m/
HELLA nice sounds!!!
fast wie mein Tanzbär ... MFB thanks for the sound
Wobei das Bärchen in ne anderen Preisliga spielt, als ne RD6/TR-606, oder?
Is that a X911 hiding in your effects shelf? I’d love to hear you talk about as there is not too much reviews of it on youtube!
Pretty cool man! I dig!
Jesus Christ that sounds good!
I need this!!
I like the JD-Xi inspired colour scheme. It's a bit hard for live work tho'.
The sounds are beautiful, modified analog gear is the bomb !
very cool, I would add LFO's for the decay and pitch of each drum, as well as a drive-y LPF and Delay for fun.
Uh oh. I need to get my RD-6 modded.
ahh man right when I have to go get my 2nd shot haha
Sounds good,
606 go boom
This mod looks like a high-skill circuit bend. ;)
Like you say "precision and knowledge"... nice.
so beautiful to watch...
Awesome!
A dream of a drum machine.
This is what the Akai Tomcat would have sounded like if it wasn't made by Akai.
Hi, Hainbach!
Real Kraftwerk vibe here... 😎
Dr110 would be a suitable candidate

The brizzle was not there before the mod. That is the Germanium diode doing a little bit of saturation.
@@Hainbach Sure? I never heard a unit that didn't have a small amount of it . But of course not as much as heard on yours.
I want 303 and 909 in one piece of gear to pour the acid beats right on the dancefloor!
ReRebirth
everyone always knew the 606 needed a little Germanium to get the most out of it 😎👍🏻
Sounds like my old Boss DR-110... except the "Doctor" has no Congas/Toms!
You went all Tangerine Dream there.
Yeah it rubs off, my neighbour is involved with them 😄
@@Hainbach wow. That's awesome!
WOW that's so siiick!!! Would the person consider to upgrade another 606 so it turns into this beautiful weird hybrid?

Waaaaaaa rall taralll !! 🤣🤣 amaaaaazing
Thinking already of an RD-8 out of Uli's workshop...
six o sick
That KICK!!
i once opened my 606 and was horrified by a stack of PCBs tightly populated by components. modifying one is a feat in itself
hOLY CRAP DUDE , I want it!
@Hainbach, have you tried any of the Behringer version of the Roland boxes? The 303 copy looks like a nice little machine for the money.
Maybe, but I am not interested in Behringer after the whole Corksniffer affair, and I have twice declined their collaboration requests.
@@Hainbach so much respect for that! I will only ever buy used behringer gear cause I don't want to support them directly.
How much is the mod?
I don’t understand it, but it’s super cool
Is there 609?
Hmm I have a 606... I allways did not like to change the form factor sounds interesting
The kick needs a lo pass filter. The clipping sounds like something is wrong
Mine is already packed with 11 extra pots and a switch. no individual outs.

0:32 sounds lik the beat from "Head like a Hole" from Nine Inch Nails
I'm waiting for my 606 to come back from Filippo as a 608 too! Can't wait to start shredding acid and electro on this thing.
If you don't mind me asking, what's the price range for a unit like this? :)
Did it come back yet? Would love to hear what you think

is there a 609?
my old pal had this box but it said drummatix on it.... was never impressed with it.. yours sounds a lot doper.
so you can use the trigger outs while also sequencing a drum pattern at the same time?

Yes!

Soooo…my good friend…. Sample pack?
It is on my Patreon, along with many others :-)

yes , its 474 Euros, the contact is in the description
Could this be done to the RD-6?
It's makes me want to dance in Japanese.
What if you already own a RD-8 MKII? Is it worth it?
Next plug-in?
SIck hihats.
