You know what, this album is full of her amazing vocals & arrangements and interpolates folk, pop, soul, neo soul, and R&B, and all the tracks are WRITTEN & co-written by HER. And legendary ANITA BAKER approved this performance. Phenomenal.
I really relate when you say “I am scared to be here” because yeah… felt. She’s so good that it is physically painful/upsetting to listen to her at times.
“The way they just sit back and relax in the pocket, I wish I could sing like that” 💯 that last song fills me up too, seeing her being able to insert some smiles in a piece that takes her through the roughest part of her grief. Yesterday on ig she announced going on tour in spring 🥳

Yebba is so great and her voice is so full of texture and resonance and lively highs! It takes you on a journey. It makes you wonder how she plans the song note for note! How? What was flowing in her head? Just wonderful and God-given! I love her so much!
I felt so flabbergasted after watching her tinydesk for the first time I literally just had to sit and try to process what I had just witnessed. It was that good.

She’s a f***ing force. So unbelievable technically, but I never feel like the goal is just ‘watch me be impressive’
it always feels like she’s following what she feels and hears in the song, and these runs & textures are just the paths that open up for her when she does that. I really feel things when she sings, every time.
Honestly though, if you dig into the lyrics of these songs w the context of her life, they’re all worth getting emotional over. except distance. distance is just about the love 💗

The Background is a three part harmony with Yebba, they phrase it as one chord, kind of like how Lalah Hathaway did with "Something" but in reverse, taking one phrase projecting it as a three chord harmony from one vocalist.
Track #2 gives me 90s Lalah vibes

Hey man.. um trying to paint a picture. Because I feel your emotion on this.. because I have it. I'm a strong, construction worker that can get goosebumps from this AND death metal. Idk what's wrong with me. I grew up with r&b and soul influences and graduated to some metal in my adulthood. Its crazy to me on the range I have personally. Yebba is an amazing artist man. I get close to the same energy from Whitechapel "I will find you" . If you are interested. I mean... I sang some Usher "gotta let it burn" as the lead singer...with my black friends in 6th grade talent show, I had on platinum fubu. AND... I love death metal. I dont know if you can feel me 🤣🤣
