The API and the MA5 were my favourite. Thick enough and also in your face and well rounded. I couldn't believe how much more low end the Rupert Neve Designs had, it was almost like there was an extra mic on the back of the cab.
They all have there place depending on the project. Not all songs need "in your face" guitars. I like UA Apollos but my preference for my own projects are pre amps like Neve or API

So different that my guess is you either bumped the mic, different mic position OR have different mics on different pres. There should NOT have that much difference as they are just pre amps.
I appreciate your effort to do this but it sounds so terribly out of tune it’s hard to listen too. Either the guitar is not tuned or your pulling too hard on the strings. Also not volume matching is misleading
Hey man, a question about the Helios 500 series, i bought the same one,, But havent used it for recording yet, the Phantom power switch.... when is it on, up or down? I did put the unit on a Protools insert for my Bass guitar, and it sounded awesome,, and my feeling from this experiment is that this unit might excel for bass sources,, but this is opposite of what your saying.. I must experiment more though,, i know mine has the Sowter transformer, is yours also Sowter? They are supposedly amazing for bass frequencies. I wish this unit had a DI though. In your tests, the Helios wins i agree,, all the other Pres were too woofy for crunch guitars. Sooo based on your test, and if you also have a Sowter tranny, then have you tried this unit as a line level insert and notice a big difference in bass response? I think the API might be second choice, and i think the 610 actually beat out the Neves maybe🤔🤷♂️
Love the Avedis MA5. I have one and when you really start to drive the pre the color is so nice on e gtrs.
