I have been traveling to Colombia for close to 20 years. This happened near my buddy’s condo. Last time a brother from ATL got shot in Barranquilla over a chain too. The problem there is too many people getting comfortable with South/Central America. I’ve seen people stabbed, kidnapped, shot, I was in Cartagena when a bus was fire bombed. These men need to treat the streets with respect and remember that the minute you cross the US border, you are on your own.
@@dcbornrob I’ll check out your other videos. I was there around that time. I asked a couple of street dudes and they told me that they would see him riding a bike smoking weed in bad neighborhoods. I prefer medellin too. However, before got to know Medellín, i was a cartagena guy. I spent a lot of time there. Everyone will have their own opinions on Cartagena bjt i will tell you, it’s dangerous. Many tourists don’t even realize the dangers (even inside the walled city). Cartagena has a lot of good things to do too such as island hopping and boating. You just need to be very careful, have street smarts and don’t wear any valuable things! This guys error was wearing gold chain.
This was a friend of mine he lived in Chattanooga. He worked for UPS for 39 years he would never wear a fake chain. He died on his birthday as to why he was standing on the corner. I would never know. A relative of mine talk to him 30 minutes before that happened to wish him a happy birthday.
I have now been to cartagena twice and have no desire to go to other parts of Colombia. I feel safer in the ocean with big police presence. It makes it impossible to smoke weed but I enjoy my girl, the beach and the food and people. I just walk away from all people pestering me. I've become a pro at walking away from people ... And say no sorry...
As many times as I've traveled to Colombia and Cartagena. I've always been very CAUTIOUS anytime I see 2 grown men riding on a motorcycle, it just LOOKS WEIRD too me. Great work @DC Rob!! ✌🏾✊🏿💯
My wife of 22 years is from Cartagena. The beaches are unregulated and so bad with the vendors that even the locals won’t go there. This neighborhood is also bad. My wife does not even like driving through the neighborhood where this happened. Cartagena needs to do much better.
Marabella is rough. Unfortunately, they advertise airbnb apartments as if they are located within the walled city, but Marabella is not. Although a short taxi ride from the wall, the area isn't nearly as secure. Lots of bandits in Marabella. Inside the wall is more secure, but Bocagrande is best in my opinion. Pay close attention to the location of your reservations. Stay out of Marabella and Manga. Verify you are staying within the walled city or Bocagrande. And please please please stop going over there flashing. A good pair of Levi's, t-shirt and decent sneakers can get you anything you're looking for in Cartagena. Flash attracts scapolamine and bandits. Safe travels!
Marbella and Manga are the better neighbourhoods in Cartagena after Laguito and Bocagrande especially by the water where this incident happened. On what basis are you saying this?
Cartagena is fun, clubs are cool, hot weather, bars like alchemico are cool, girls are pretty and diverse, diff beach hopping and beach parties like tierra bomba and cholon, diff experiences like the mud volcanoe, surfing, paragliding, dinner on the boat at night, learn champeta, the pelenque, bazurto market, san felipe castle, the classic feel, the restaurants and food. This is why people go to Cartagena. Unfortunately of course you have to take precaution anywhere in colombia.
Cartagena has been making the news lately for the wrong reasons. Most of the incidents involve aggressive vendors and panhandlers on the beach and even scammers. This doesn’t look good for Cartagena. Things happen in Medellin but when something like this happens in Cartagena, the sky falls down. I think the volume of pests that try to panhandle or scam people are way more than Medellin.
Colombia is on a downward spiral after some years of improvement in the not too distant past. This is the way of Latin America: improvements in safety and economy with so-called "right wing" governments, followed by rapid decline when the leftists/socialists regain control.
I try to love on the people and give as much as I can but they need to realize not every American is rich. Also Americans need to stop flashing thier bling.
My friends keep telling me I'm gonna become an involuntary organ donor when I go to Colombia. 😮 I feel bad for the American that got shot and killed. Play it safe before traveling there is all kinds of info out there a person has to study before taking the test.
I have contemplated Cartegena over the years but now it’s a definite no. Say what you want about Brazil as a whole but the tourist area, Copacabana to be specific is pretty safe. There’s a heavy police presence in many spots. They are protecting their tourism industry. In Colombia, it seems like they are apathetic. Back in the Narco terroism days of Pablo, Colombia didn’t really turn the tide until the US got involved. Not saying that’s needed here but this will continue to happen without any changes in how they protect the tourist areas.
Bro I go to Cartengena 6 times a year and never had a problem you have to be careful anywhere you go on this planet. But I did an informative video about the Hollywood beach check it out!
I was in Rio for a few months last year, the policing of Copa and Ipanema especially during the weekends is like a moovie scene. Police everywhere, helicopters with armed guards flying above the beach, policemen in bicycles scooters , horses cars etc. Yet anything can happen at the blink of the eye. Other areas however do have issues like Centro, Lapa. I was closed to get robed miday in centro although iam very experienced and lived in Rio for sometime. My point if the Colombian government wants to clean or at least try they should create like 30 arresting groups for each major cities and set up those gangs by throwing baits to them FBI style.
@@vanpli8570 I hear ya. I just got back from Rio. Was there 40 days. There has been a huge uptick in crime in Copacabana and the South Zone. Don’t necessarily know why. But thus far under Lula it has been. I am not Pro Bolsonaro but the raids he would have take place in favelas were no joke and a strong deterent. I stayed on a street near Miguel Lemos and heard gun shots from my 8th floor apartment one night. I looked out the window and saw people scatter. One night driving in my Uber in Centro these kids jump off a bus at a red light, immediately run into the street towards a car and snatched a phone. My Uber driver spoke English and told me to roll up my windows. There’s this one video circulating of a European tourist getting severely beat by favela gangs in Copacabana. This was in broad daylight. No one helped the poor guy. After they beat the guy they went into his pockets and ran off. Fortunately they did catch one of the kids who was apart of the beating.
@@capbruhcorn yes tottaly agree, the situation has aggravated but I don't know if it's because of Lulas light approach or because of the pandemic. However what's happening right now jn Colombia is out of control. I'll definitely wont visit. They can put scopolamine right up their a...ses
My wife is Colombian and I have been all over Colombia many times, Cartagena is my favorite city and I wouldn't be worried at all traveling back there nor have I ever had an issue there at all.
@@mattyghost3409 Thailand is dangerous too, plenty of foreigners die there every year either murdered or by mysterious circumstances. In my town in Colombia there hasn't been a single homicide this entire year, it really depends on location and your behavior. Prior years there was maybe 1-3 homicides per year but they were always targeted and usually in retribution for something, not random murders. Cartagena is def pretty dangerous though, I stay away from there.
We were just on a Cruise that stopped in Cartegena. NEVER AGAIN would I get off the ship if it stopped there. Way too many aggressive vendors, who don't take no.
out of the tourist areas the poverty rate is like 150% and there are no jobs or economic devlepoment going on in the country to create jobs or to bring jobs there in all of the country that is why most of the people are trying to escape and come to the united states
I was on the beach with my at the time 14 year old stepson. The girls all stayed in the apartment that morning. The women who give massages don't take no for an answer. I told her we didn't have any money. We were just wearing swiming shorts. We had nothing else with us. She held onto me and started spraying oil on me. We had wrist bands from our apartment, which was across the street. She told me that I have money there. Her and some other women stayed with the boy while I haf to go up to the 41st floor of our apartment to get money.
Actually this happened to me in Playa Blanca Baru in Cartagena. Those darker than 'reverse of a frying pan' massage ladies simply started pouring oil on my legs and chest, while I was laying on a beach chair, out of nowhere. And, then she was not ready to hear - No. Another local lady from our bus tour, asked us not to pay heed to her, but then she started shouting to her as well. They are way too aggressive there.
I am sorry for the loss of your dad, friend and love one. I hope the city of Cartagena can put some measures in and laws place on to reduce the constant harassment and solicitation of tourists. Cartagena is a beautiful city.
How about Cartagena Colombia start providing jobs and other social programs that would solve the economic problems of their citizens. This would go a long way in protecting foreigners.
Me amigo Rob. I have been here for 18 months after 5 years in Medellin. I love the beach and ocean view from my apartment. I almost never visit Boca Grande where the local bug you about buying stuff. I stay in the local area and they do not bother me. Miami was hot and humid as well. Cartagena has a lot more diversity. It is not 85% White Colombian like Medellin. Difficult to believe but I feel a lot safer in Cartagena than I did in Medellin, but I know anything can happen any day. You can get mugged and killed in Atl, Chicago and NYC. I have walked from Centro to my apartment after dark many times in Cartagena. I would never try that in Medellin.
I hear you bro. People have to know though, that you know how to move. Most expats do. Tourists, not so much. You have the experience that most visitors don't
I can believe it, I'd say it's easier for black people to blend in Cartagena while for white boys it's easier in Medellin just cause there are so many other white Colombians specifically in that region compared to other parts of Colombia.
Cartagena is by far the most beautiful and annoying place at the same time. You have people asking you 24/7 if you either want to buy something or massage or food. It doesn't even matter if you already bought a bracelet you'll have another person try to sell you another bracelet
I’m very sorry for Greg’s family and their loss. You can pay to travel to more secure beaches that are private without pushy vendors. I have been to both public & private beaches there. My husband is Colombian and we have for the most part had good experiences. But most foreigners won’t know what to say to the pushy vendors to make them leave you alone like “Déjame tranquilo”. We have a friend (local) who got robbed in Marbella. There are better safer areas for foreigners- Laguito, Castillo Grande, Boca. I have been to Cartagena many times visiting family. I love this city but I also know to be on the lockout always, my husband has taught me this.
I do not go to any country where criminals have a know reputation for targeting tourist for robbery and you can have all the evidence in the world and no arrest will be made. BUt hey, to each his own.
Thank you homie, for all the news about Colombia. I've been watching you for a couple of years now. Yes, I too am from the DMV and when I grow up I wanna be just like you!
I vlog on Colombia. And yes, this is a big story. What people do now is what matters. Here and there. Everyone needs to ask themselves, what are they doing to help. Again, here or wherever. Or are they just talking
I was in cartagena 2 months ago. Spent 10 days and walked everywhere, didn't hear or witness any crime. But then again, i didn't go to where they have a crowd except a couple of clubs. I didn't wear any necklaces or have my phone out constantly. I use only Uber, too. You kinda sound naive because more cities in the U.S. has more crime rates than cartagena or medellin.
There’s a big time Colombian soccer player who plays in the premier league team Liverpool and his name is Luiz Diaz. His parents were kidnapped this weekend by armed men.
Hello Rob, sad sad news. Just wanted to say thank you for sharing again and shedding light on the fact when visiting Colombia you are NOT in your home country. Also I completely agree with you, I've been to Cartagena, the beaches are absolutely the worst for being pestered by vendors. When my wife and I were there last year of vendor we rented a beach tent from actually double rented it on us when we were wadding in the water… We returned to find another family in our tent!! When I talked to the vendor he threw his hands in the air like he had nothing to do with it and had no idea what was going on. There are a couple nice beaches in the area , in the Rosaria islands and Playa Cristal within Tyrona Park. However it's quite a boat ride and journey to get to these places. It is nice to visit the old town of Getsemaní when in Cartagena but for me that's it. It's not a place I would recommend if you were looking for nice beaches. I realize really nice beaches are limited in Colombia, however like I said if you're looking for nice beaches in Colombia look elsewhere, even other countries is what I would suggest. Take care and be safe! Suerte a todos , desde Medellin ....
Much thanks Dennis. Just one man trying to have people travel. I'm on the plane now. I love this feeling. And it's better when nobody's next to you. 😆 unless you bring them
Hey DCBorn Rob, l think its time that we move forward and stop traveling to Colombia. I think you should recommend us another destination safer for us travelers. I've recommended many places I've visited. See my videos on Guatemala, El Salvador, Cuba. Honduras, Thailand, Puerto Rico, etc... But guys will continue to go to Colombia no matter what I or any other UA-cam says. So I just try to advise on how to stay safe.

@@cc-92 Let's see. The SECOND you step on the sand at any beach, you get mobbed by vendors. Once you find a spot on the beach, you get mobbed by vendors. If you decide to go out to Playa Blanca in Barú Island by boat, you need to be at the dock at 8:30 am or catch a shuttle bus. I caught the bus, got there, hung out and had waiters try to hustle me out of 50 bucks for a chair and 3 beers. When I returned to the shuttle bus with my group, the drivers had another group already inside. We ended up having to try to squeeze all of us in this one bus that was the size of a minivan. Save yourself from the headache and visit Santa Marta.
Never been to the public beaches in Cartagena only been to private beaches , always have security and stay in upscale areas . I feel for the brother please guys don’t rock jewellery
Reasons I like Cartagena, they have some of the most beautiful women of color beautiful tropical skin, hair, very nice. I love the beach and tropical vibes. Medellin is not really my thing I think Medellin is way more dangerous than Cartagena because of its popularity.
I'm in Bocagrande right now and according to my taxi guy this tourist was in Marbella where there are cheap rentals that look attractive online and not much of a police presence
If you want to avoid vendors or people pan handling in the streets say "gracias" and keep it moving... saying "gracias" means " no thanks" its a nice way to say no .
I live in Getsemani bro. This stuff only began in the last few years when the Sosua crowd started showing up. I never had a problem in the past 20 years that I been traveling and living here. I don't bring attention to myself or wear flashy clothing or Jewelry. It's unfortunate that the young man became a victim but lately Marbella has experienced an uptick in crime for the residents that live there. I'm glad you like Medallo but Cartagena is my media naranja
I hear ya. Yea, the sad thing is, when you come after others, they've set the stage for how to treat you. We each are representatives of those coming behind us. So just think who they've run into before
I think it's rude to talk ill of someone that did nothing but want to look nice on his birthday. The man worked all his life to have something and just wanted to enjoy. Marbella is a nice area and he must of felt safe. Maybe wearing gold was not the smartest thing, but rude is shooting someone to take something that doesn't belong to you. That's rude. Medellin, Cartagena, it doesn't matter. Colombia is becoming more dangerous by the day.
In general not this particular person. What type a person goes into a poverty stricken place and flashes their wealth when people are struggling. I can see you rolling up to a homeless shelter in a Lambo telling people look at what I got and you don't@@dariob52
Cartagena is a very touristic and romantic city. But, it has places that, are not recommended for a tourist. For that reason, if you want to enjoy yourself you should ask your agency or I can help you. Please keep in mind that the prices of the apartments that rent very cheap is for that reason, the area is dangerous.

Hi Rob, man I love all the information you provide for our safety in Colombia, I'll be there in 2 weeks and I was wondering if your driver Andres speaks English? Please kindly let me know asap.
Yes he does. Give him s call. But if he's on your, he may have to send another of his guides. It's 50)50 then. But they'll get you there safely and a small portion goes to our charity there
My condolences tu the family. I hated cartagena. You are right about the pestering. They wake you up on the beach. They go into the restaurants. Kids ages under 10 outside 2 in the morning. It's the worse. The best thing about cartagena are the islands that you can take a boat to. Less begging and the beaches are better. I'll stick with medellin. Going to visit pereira and pasto soon to see how those places are.
First my condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Owens. Second, i'm tired of this back and forth which is better, Medellin or Cartagena. In my honest opinion they are both dangerous. If you give me a choice of being drugged to death in Medellin or shot in the head in Cartagena, I choose none of the above. I have my ghetto pass and I have walked in NYC, DC, Compton and Colombia. Thing is I do not want to have to walk like this anymore.
I mean I was just thinking that Medellin ain't me because of the same reasons. The "rappers" over there for sure and I tell them I don't even like rap and they just change up the beat. The women are a given. I think it's like that through out really
The last time I was in Medellin, I noticed the rappers there too. I can't stand the annoyance. lol. I just want to observe sometimes. Guys go for the girls, but there's girls everywhere
Things have really changed in Chicago and some other cities in the past couple years. Every country, city has areas to stay away from , Cartagena included. Common sense is a must anywhere.
What the citizens pf Cartagena dont understand is that Cartagena could be a top notch international tourist destination they ruined it for there own people. It makes no sesne how they act on Boca grande. When i want ocean i go to mexico when i want good cool climate i go to Medellin. Cartagena is horrible
It doesn't matter if you are in Paris, Rome, New York, or anywhere, you have to be alert and street-smart. Enjoy yourself and be aware of your surroundings.
Black brothers are going to Cartagena in droves because we want to experience beautiful Colombianas. We are tired of dealing with Modern women in the United States who say “ I don’t need men, I don’t need a man. “ So if it’s not Cartagena, it’s Santo Domingo, Bogota, Copacabana, Pattaya, Sosua, Lima, Manila or other places around the world. We are traveling because we want to experience better women.
gettiing better women with working girls. only a delusional black man would say that. nothing wrong with black women. you are the failure. bettter women with prostitution. seek help
Marbella is not really a tourist area. Generally it's one of the safer areas. But if you have any type of urban awareness then you won't be walking around with jewelry out or pulling your phone out. I own an apartment about a five minute walk away in Torices and walked these same streets many times and never been robbed. When you go to Cartagena and you venture outside of centro then you have to move around appropriately.
Marbella isn't all that safe. Definitely not a main tourist area and there's actually a lot of police in that area. Anywhere you need a lot of police is too dangerous to stay
@@charleszan74 You're debating a point I'm not making. My exact words were it's one of the safer areas in Cartagena. You said you've only been to Cartagena twice but let me ask you this. Name ten neighborhoods outside of the main tourist areas being sure to include Marbella as one. Make this completely random. Then you rank them in order of safety. I live in Torices part of the year and know this area well and have walked it many times. One could say no area in Cartagena is completely safe and I wouldn't debate that. But in comparison to the city in general Marbella is in fact one of the safer neighborhoods. You also said there is allot of police in Marbella. I'm thinking you're confused. There's no more police in Marbella than San Pedro or Manga or Blaze de Lezo.
Cartagena is one of my favorite cities! I like the heat, beaches galore, live salsa music 7 days a week. Ocean view condos are affordable. Its like a middle class Miami. Its helps to have decent Spanish. Plenty of do. I jog everyday in laguito or Bocagrande and never felt unsafe. RIP to the brutha who lost his life. Marbella has a poor side. It's not the best area. Jewelry is a bad idea anywhere is south america. In Cartagena I recommend laguito, Bocagrande , Castillo grande and manga. I wouldn't stay in the other areas.
When I went to Medellin all you could hear at night were gun shots in the surrounding Hills all night long....Frightening to say the least...We got sick driving to the airport around winding roads for at least an hour trying to get to the city.. Doesnt matter where you go in Colombia, every place has its negatives just like any city..Never had any problems in Cartegena as a black man touring..
You are right about Cartegena. I been there and rob to not for me. Aside from meeting a Tinder date and not knowing that she wanted money. I had to pay $90 after we did our thing. The police had to force me to pay her then they extorted me for money. The place is hot and you sweat all the time. I don’t like the beach, so I don’t understand the vibe.
Colombia as a whole should get on the bandwagon to produce supported employment with a decent salary for their own people to survive.Second, any tourist that thinks they can wear or carry anything expensive and walk in the jungle of Colombia or any other third world country without getting hurt needs to get their head check.
Medellín is more dangerous imo than Cartagena. I just didn’t feel safe there. I love the hot weather and beaches and Afro Colombians of Cartagena. I don’t know why people like Medellín so much.
What up Rob?? I'm chilling on last night here in Medellin. Even though I stayed at this hotel in El Centro, it wasn't too bad. I wpnt stay here again, believe me, but everyone with the hotel was very nice, respectful, helpful and polite; the standard of what I've witnessed here for my 2 years of visiting. Again, I move like I'm in my city; at night, I'm inside unless I'm traveling by car. I can't lie though, me and my girl hit up two nice restaurants like about three blocks from here and they were real chill. The food, vibe and overall service was great! My brother from another mother and I went back down to Sabaneta and ate at another great restaurant. It was raining, so we didn't do any walking around. I have NOTHING BUT LOVE for Medellín, brother. For real for real. I fly out tomorrow, but will be back in November. After that, it'll be awhile before I return because the tickets are high and I gotta get some things in order. Thanks always for your videos!!!😊😊😊😊
I just left there last Tuesday. Been 2x and also to Medellin. I believe it's safe there for the most part and wouldn't discourage anyone, but like anywhere, use caution. That should be easy for most Americans because we already live in one of the most violent countries pn earth, especially street crime. How many people got shot that same day in NYC or DC or Chicago or Detroit or LA or... yeah you get it. My condolences to the brother though. I love Colombia. Have met new friends there and I have also been all over this globe and it's still one of my favorite places.
Just the news here. Hopefully it helps someone. But I vlog on Colombia's news for expats and visitors. Tourists don't really get shot as often, so it's an issue that needs to be addressed
I've been to Chicago many many times; never had an issue. It's because I don't go in those areas. Problems are for many tourists, they stay in areas they shouldn't. Outside of that I've always felt safe there
I spent two years living in BOG and MDE and was never interested in CTG because of all the news that comes from there. That's a tourist trap for the criminals and corrupt police.

Yo, what's up Dodd?!? Haven't heard from you in a while. I hope all is well. Yeah man, I don't get the lure of that city at all. Can't be the girls. They're everywhere. And let me tell you the PR girls are absolutely beautiful
Cartagena is definitely not one of the safest cities. You even have to be careful in the centro historico but definitely outside of the historic walled city part its extremely dangerous
What happened? I'll Google it anyway. I was in Cartagena in early September and felt safe. And there is a huge Police presence. With regard to vendors and solicitors on the street I just didn't engage with them. Wasn't rude, just made it clear I wasn't interested in anything they're selling.

Thanks much. Gotta be aware. That's 90% of it
RIP to Mr. Owens and condolences to his friends and family. Thank you for the update, Rob.
Thanks Scott. I hope they make some changes. But I still won't go
My wife of 22 years is from Cartagena. The beaches are unregulated and so bad with the vendors that even the locals won’t go there. This neighborhood is also bad. My wife does not even like driving through the neighborhood where this happened. Cartagena needs to do much better.
Thanks for sharing Ken. I'm with her
Marabella is rough.
Yes, and someone is always watching. They know where these airbnbs are too
Marbella and Manga are the better neighbourhoods in Cartagena after Laguito and Bocagrande especially by the water where this incident happened.
Thanks fornyour thoughts
Thanks for your thoughts
Cartagena has been making the news lately for the wrong reasons. Most of the incidents involve aggressive vendors and panhandlers on the beach and even scammers. This doesn’t look good for Cartagena. Things happen in Medellin but when something like this happens in Cartagena, the sky falls down. I think the volume of pests that try to panhandle or scam people are way more than Medellin.
Except for a couple of panhandlers asking for money, didn't get barraged with people trying to sell me stuff in Medellin.
Colombia is on a downward spiral after some years of improvement in the not too distant past. This is the way of Latin America: improvements in safety and economy with so-called "right wing" governments, followed by rapid decline when the leftists/socialists regain control.
Yea, it's just TOO much
I try to love on the people and give as much as I can but they need to realize not every American is rich. Also Americans need to stop flashing thier bling.
The thing is, to most of them ALL Americans are rich by comparison. This is why, don't floss. It's not just rude, but it's dangerous
if you can afford to be on vacation in a foreign country, then by their standards you are certainly rich.
My friends keep telling me I'm gonna become an involuntary organ donor when I go to Colombia. 😮 I feel bad for the American that got shot and killed. Play it safe before traveling there is all kinds of info out there a person has to study before taking the test.
Yep, have tondo your research before any new country and city
I have contemplated Cartegena over the years but now it’s a definite no. Say what you want about Brazil as a whole but the tourist area, Copacabana to be specific is pretty safe. There’s a heavy police presence in many spots. They are protecting their tourism industry. In Colombia, it seems like they are apathetic. Back in the Narco terroism days of Pablo, Colombia didn’t really turn the tide until the US got involved. Not saying that’s needed here but this will continue to happen without any changes in how they protect the tourist areas.
I've heard good things about Brazil. But I can't use my little Spanish, so I'm in no rush, until I see $199 rt flights. Lol
I didn't feel secure in Rio and felt I was constantly got checked up by guys.

Exactly. That alone would keep me away
out of the tourist areas the poverty rate is like 150% and there are no jobs or economic devlepoment going on in the country to create jobs or to bring jobs there in all of the country that is why most of the people are trying to escape and come to the united states

Don't call the killer a gentleman.
WHAT??? Why? Please reply in another comment. I don't see replies to comments here. But I've got to know why
WHAT YOU LEFT YOUR 14 YEAR OLD SON WITH A BUNCH OF HOOKERS? I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY CALL THEMSELVES THAT WAS NOT A VERY SMART THING TO DO MAN...
Wow that’s crazy

This is getting more attention there than it would in Medellin. So the mayor has heard the voices I'm sure
How about Cartagena Colombia start providing jobs and other social programs that would solve the economic problems of their citizens. This would go a long way in protecting foreigners.
The issue I see they don't want the tourists coming there paying to play that's the big chunk of the issue as well
Alot of the people commiting these crimes are not citizens, they're from neighboring countrys
Poverty doesn't cause violent crime. Maby countries are poorer, but safer.
The average Colombian income is 250 per month. I phones and gold chains are huge come-ups. Keep them in the US.
I'm gonna vote with my flight somewhere else
Not killed over a $10 necklace! Stop making up false narratives to deflect from what happened to this man!
I hear you bro. People have to know though, that you know how to move. Most expats do. Tourists, not so much. You have the experience that most visitors don't
I can believe it, I'd say it's easier for black people to blend in Cartagena while for white boys it's easier in Medellin just cause there are so many other white Colombians specifically in that region compared to other parts of Colombia.
well said
Cartagena is by far the most beautiful and annoying place at the same time. You have people asking you 24/7 if you either want to buy something or massage or food. It doesn't even matter if you already bought a bracelet you'll have another person try to sell you another bracelet
Yea, that's way too much for me
I’m very sorry for Greg’s family and their loss.
Safety is a myth everywhere every time.
Thanks for watching
I do not go to any country where criminals have a know reputation for targeting tourist for robbery and you can have all the evidence in the world and no arrest will be made. BUt hey, to each his own.

This can happen right here on the Plantation, as a matter of fact it happens everyday.....
It does in some cities. And areas I stay away from
There’s a big time Colombian soccer player who plays in the premier league team Liverpool and his name is Luiz Diaz.

Thanks much Tom. That tent deal is as shady as it gets. Just another story from their beaches. Thanks for sharing

Hey Rob, I know this area very well. I was living in Cartagena for six months and I have recently come back.
be careful
So just think who they've run into before
I personally think it's very rude to be flashy in a poor country or neighborhood
Agreed. Rude if you know they're struggling. And dangerous
True

There you go. Yes, first, condolences to the family and friends. And yes, I see no need to even experience that. I can learn from other's experiences.

Marbella is not really a tourist area. Generally it's one of the safer areas. But if you have any type of urban awareness then you won't be walking around with jewelry out or pulling your phone out. When you go to Cartagena and you venture outside of centro then you have to move around appropriately.

Last weekend 54 people were shot in Chicago USA.... in 2 days... and that is not unusual there anymore. I'm safer here.
I've been to Chicago many many times; never had an issue. It's because I don't go in those areas. Problems are for many tourists, they stay in areas they shouldn't. Outside of that I've always felt safe there
My brother and I went to Cartegna but we stayed in the walled city and had no issues. But you have to know your surroundings.
Thanks for sharing. Still not a 100% guarantee though. No where really. But you can mitigate
Sounds like anyone of the major (or minor) cities in the US. Home ain't no safer.
At least at home, you know how to get outta there quickly. Here, you're trapped in one big hood. Just my take. Lol
Safety is never guaranteed, especially when it involves the interests of tourist economy and money
So happy I moved to Thailand instead of that place 😩
Man, I can't wait to get back. Still to this day, the safest country I've ever visited
I spent two years living in BOG and MDE and was never interested in CTG because of all the news that comes from there. That's a tourist trap for the criminals and corrupt police.
Exactly! Agreed
Men are going to Cartagena, Colombia 🇨🇴 because of the Venezuelan women walking near the clock tower and around the blocks of the walled city 💯
I get that. There's more cities in Colombia though. Stay safe
@dcbornrob What cities do you recommend besides Cartagena and Medellin to find more beautiful 😍 ladies?
oh really, who would have thought ?
@user-zd5hy6bn7u Those Venezuelan 🇻🇪 women are absolutely beautiful 😍. Obviously, men are willing to take the risk.
I was in Cartegena for a week and it was fun but it didn't feel safe and it was hot.
Lol, yes I can do hot, but not humid. Lol. Thanks for the comment
Colombia police a joke. Ppl don’t stay in jail for long. This why i stop traveling Colombia
I gotcha. Thanks for sharing
Like n Comment to help.
We talked about Cartagena, aggressive beggars n such.
Not my kind of place either.
Thanks for what you do.
Too many sad stories.
Yo, what's up Dodd?!? Haven't heard from you in a while. I hope all is well. Yeah man, I don't get the lure of that city at all. Can't be the girls. They're everywhere. And let me tell you the PR girls are absolutely beautiful
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching bro
Rappers and ladies taking pictures walking in the park for me that's a regular day in time Square
Yep, same old same old
Cartagena is definitely not one of the safest cities. You even have to be careful in the centro historico but definitely outside of the historic walled city part its extremely dangerous
Any way you look iat it, you have to be on the lookout. Gotta be aware. And learn Spanish
What happened? I'll Google it anyway.
I was in Cartagena in early September and felt safe. And there is a huge Police presence.
With regard to vendors and solicitors on the street I just didn't engage with them. Wasn't rude, just
made it clear I wasn't interested in anything they're selling.
Gotcha. Thanks for sharing
If the locals do not like going to the beach for those same reasons, is that enough evidence for you to believe that maybe it is not a safe place!?!
True that. Not for me
This happens every in the world..people need to stop wearing gold chains out there
Yep, but there are safe places to visit. Thailand and Vietnam are two of the safest places I've ever been. Especially Thailand. Safer than the US for sure

I've heard complaints about Cartagena. Many ppl feel bothered.
Yea, looks like either you like it, or you feel like me, can do without the hassle
@dcbornrob I had not been, from 20 or more ppl I spoke to, 14 did not enjoy their visit. The other 7 stayed for less than 3 days. However, they did all gave Santa Marta more props.
My cousin was lured there by a women!
Here's how you stay safe in Colombia: "DON'T travel there!"
