1:08 scene of highlanders guarding street corner while local woman serve a drink to Bren gunner laying prone with his machine gun aimed down the street. I've seen a photo of this same scene.

With all the destruction from the bombing it is a MIRACLE the Cathedral survived.

It's actually a Basilica and houses the incorrupt body of St Therese of Lisieux, who died in 1897 and was beatified in the 1920s.

My hometown. More than 800 civilians died on the night of the 6th of June while bomber command was missing the railway station and burned the old medieval town. No hate towards british troops. Everybody then knew who the ennemy was : nazis and collaborators.

Hello and greetings to you Eric. How sad were such terrible losses, RIP to them all. Having a great devotion to St. Therese I have visited Lisieux many, many times. I Love the place and so it is so ,so sad to also imagine the architectural gems and much else beside, lost in the town's basic destruction. Nonetheless the spirit survives as did the wonderful Basilica, Carmel, St. Pierre, and St Jacques a miracle in and of itself. Salut.
