Does anyone know what happens to the empty shells? Do they just lie around untill they get covered with dust and over millenia turn to sediment? Are they eaten by other bottomdwellers?
I think eventually they get crushed. Sometimes you will see one wash up on shore, but it's not very common. Usually, what we see on the shore is something that has been picked up by a gull, cracked open, meat xtracted, and just the shell left. They're pretty delicate, considering
Amazing behavior to protect each other during the evolving process. Nature has unbelievable acts of cooperation among members of the various species. Not only the crabs follow an instinctual behavior but also stingrays, that know about crabs' life cycle to be able to get softer crabs to feed themselves. Great video.
what breaks down all the molted shells? That looks like a feast for anything that eats chitin which I know certain bacteria do but does anything like hard bodies sponges set up on these and incorporate the chitin into their bodies?
Wait so what happens to the 100,000 husks of the molted crabs? Are they just in a giant pile on the sea floor? Is there a use for them? Wouldn't they accumulate over the years?
In most moulting species it's about growing larger and getting rid of the old, cramped skin layer/shell. Don't know what you're getting the decompressing thing from?
I love watching God's creation and seeing his creative powers. What a great God! Psalm 50:12 KJV “If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.”
Do our thoughts influence nature? Indeed, our thoughts influence nature. We live in a single global-integral system of nature, we influence it with our thoughts, and we receive feedback accordingly. Similar to laws that operate on mechanical, electronic, electromagnetic and other material and biological scales, when we press, push or constrain something, we receive a response. Likewise, when we think positively or negatively about others, we accordingly receive a response. The global-integral reality in which we live is a closed system, and we receive responses from it according to our attitudes to it.
So much hard work, research, filming and well narrated by sir David Attenborough... What an army of crabs and the beautiful Goliath sting ray...🙄😏
So so cool. I know the ray had to feed, but it was so intense for the crab... I also love the video bombing of a tiny shrimp at the end 😅
Little shrimp was like "I'd like to give a shout out to RayRay, I love be you momma"
Wow. I had no idea that mass moulting was a thing. Fantastic shooting, drama, and information.
That stingray sounds like a spaceship.
Looks like one too! 😮

I have the same question. I suspect small organisms will break them down

It's biological remains, so they're eventually broken down. Perhaps also a food source for some organisms.
Why does the image of the soft crabs coming out of their old shells scares me like those alien movies? 😅😅😅

This is a reup video and I watched every single video .

What happens to their cast off Exoskeleton? Do they just break down into sand? Or are the consumed by other organisms?
I'm not sure, but when they wash up on the shore, they're pretty delicate, considering. So I would not be surprised if they just break down
Fascinating!!
Wow, 4 meters equals 13 feet? Is that correct?
Yes it does. Use Google, mate
1 meter = 3.3 ft approximately

does the molting count as decompressing from the depths from which they came?

@@mokarokas-1727 because they are coming from 1600+ feet deep water
@@HELLBENDER77 - Right, but I only associate decompressing with air/water pressure, which is not an issue since they're moving slowly.
