As an archaeologist (and makeup junkie), this is my favorite series on UA-cam. I appreciate your willingness to put the time in to actually research and not just use hollywoods interpretation!
Damn, my poor eyelashes!! I'm dead!! My eyelashes are straight/laid, like a line. They already seem non existent, so if I went to Ancient Rome.... They would look at me in shock.
I giggled when you had the subtitle that long lashes were a sign of chastity and then you said you don't have any lashes lol! I absolutely love these recreations and appreciate all the time you put in to them. ♥ Elle
I think this is my favorite in the series so far! So well done, Zabrena. I love how you did your hair. It's also amazing how brows can transform one's face - I actually think those brows looked good on you, but then again you can pull off just about anything :D
Ppl nowadays are swallowing doping stuff which makes their testicles shrink, inject neurotoxines like Botox and drinking urine for a better health (in money society). Who do you try to fool,Mr. Smartass?
+Tisiphone2 I bet it started as a practical joke. like, "Hey Ed, check this out... excuse me, ma'am? Did you know that this will get you straight into the afterlife?" haha
I'm guessing one of the great advantages to having a servant put on makeup for you would be that they didn't have (good) mirrors back then - could you do a video on how people (might have) done their own makeup without a mirror, or with only a bronze disc (or whatever they substituted with back then)? Would it all have been trial-and-check with sisters before leaving the house, or were there tricks? Techniques that would have been rich-people only, because the middle-class simply couldn't do it on themselves? Thank you for all of these fascinating videos!
ILove Privacy You bring up an excellent point. I will put on a subdued lipstick without a mirror, perhaps powder my nose, but that’s about it. And boy-oh-boy, I wish I had someone to help me with my hair styling.
Mina Del Cali, That comment wasn't necessary. All of hispanic culture is beautiful world wide and none is better than the other. We are all diverse and wonderful.
Actually, Victorian English women did not wear makeup, as they associated it with prostitutes. However, she could technically do a Victorian prostitute makeup tutorial... 😁
+Alix Androvna i think normally just powder was used but very little, they would bite their lips or use berries as a natural stain and they would pinch their cheeks to make them look naturally flushed
Agree it is not the same although for Cleopatra it was the custom to incorporate pre-Alexander influences to forge a connection with Pharaohs of the kingdoms of Egypt. It would be interesting to see a pre-Hellenistic Egypt tutorial or post-Byzantine tutorial of regional styles.
I m sure your baby will know everything about history and makeup ,since he/she has been listening to his/her mumma ! ☺️☺️🙈 love you zabrena , you are one of the kindest and sweetest UA-camrs I know of ! 😚😚😘 take care and God bless you .
Hey guys, so I am a historian and make-up did not become readily available or affordable in North America/Northern Europe until the twentieth century thanks to industrialization.
Roxy Ross Rose Not really. During that time period and era, make-up was considered only to really be for actresses or others of "ill-repute". The most they likely would have done was maybe pinch their cheeks to make themselves look healthier. Other cultures during that time period certainly used make-up, but not North American/Northern European.
I got so excited when this notification popped up on my phone as the historically accurate series is how I found you and I LOVE that series! It didn't disappoint! Can't wait to see the glam rock!
wowowow your hair is SO GORGEOUS when you styled it!!! I mean your hair is always gorgeous but wow!!! the color mixed with the spiral texture, it looks so amazing!!!
this is my favorite of all makeup series on you tube. the only makeup videos that actually don't feel like a waste of time, but I'm actually learning from!
Could you do a titanic themed look?? I love roses makeup and hair from the movie. I would be interested to see what was popular during that time :) love your videos!!
in the 1910' s rich women would use a piece of paper with some powder on it to white their nose and cheeks. they used the ashed from burnt matches for eyeliner or mascara and theyd bite their lips and pinch their cheeks to make them pink. nail polish was just starting to be used and they only used a very light pink so they looked close to nude
I LOVED this! I hadn't seen previous videos. I love history so I had too watch others. What a great idea. I would really love it if you include your references because I'd love to read more! Do ancient Egypt! Love this again. Thank you. Oh. Leave pop ups longer so old eyes can read the small print. Takes us longer.
These videos are amazing! You are really talented! It would be so fun to see the Regency/Jan Austen period! I did a little bit of research and from what I understand it was a big time for fashion.
I fucking love this. Yusss do more makeup history ! I wanna see a 1600s around Salem witch burning and hangings. Think it would be a good idea for Halloween.
I've missed these historical videos. I did a project for school last year about historical makeup and your vids helped me a lot. Love you so much Zabrena! 😍
Move over Atia of the Julli, Livia Drecilla, Aggripina and Messalia, there is a new empress in Rome and her name is Zabrina of the Fabiola clan ! Amazing and wonderful even without the lead and arsenic foundation. You reminded me so much of the gorgeous Polly Walker in HBO's ROME. (If you have never seen ROME then you must! Perfect for a rainy Saturday binge fest. Big Hug from Washington State! (Yes I moved from San Francisco Bay to Puget Sound!)
I am in LOVE with this series! As a makeup enthusiast/hobbyist I've been subscribed for awhile now. I also love your Frugal Fridays, they always help me find a bargain!
Yay I'm so glad you came out with this!!! Totally lifted my mood!! Can you do an ancient Indian (not native Americans) makeup tutorial??? Thanks for the videos these are my favorites!!
Luna Nova6 if she was to do that, she’d be called out by people for ‘cultural appropriation’ It’s not personal because it has no relevance to me, but with the geisha it is so historically important in Japanese culture it would make more sense to have a model
Okay lady, this one is definitely my favorite! As someone obsessed with Ancient Rome, this makes me giddy to see. Love your videos, as always, can't wait to see the next one!
Compared to most of the rest of the world, they were big on hygiene. Many places barely bathed and the Romans were big on taking baths, even if they did rub shit on their faces afterwards. lol
These keep getting better and better! Please keep doing them :) it's what turned me on to your channel in the first place, I remember I could not believe you had only a few thousand subs because the content was on point! I also think the thick brow looks beautiful on you!

Well...." when in Rome..." LOL. Actually the eyebrows kinda look like the Instagram brows going on right now...and I personally can't wait for them to be "historic" too....😉. Great video!
Hi Zabrena! LOVE your channel! Maybe a Historically Accurate Tutorial featuring Geisha? Ancient China or Japan? Thought that may be really cool! Congratulations to you, your hubby and family on your little guy! Such an exciting time! :) Love Always!
LOVE the historically accurate series! It’s actually the reason I subscribed to you haha. UA-cam populated a bunch of these videos one day in the recommended videos sections and I’ve been hooked on your channel ever since :)
This actually looks so beautiful on you. I swear you can do any look in the world and still be gorgeous. I can't wait for the next historically accurate. I think ancient Chinese or a geisha look would be awesome. 💜
I absolutely love this one! The historical background and facts you provide is also great! I'm certainly a history nerd and a make up lover so this series is just the best!! ❤️
Siouxzen H Zabrena says that she researched ancient Roman makeup and that this is her recreation of it. It's not a modern take. The title of the video even states that it's historically accurate Roman makeup. I'm not sure what gave you the idea that she's done a modern version of historical Roman makeup.
Well what they meant is that blending styles, eyeliner styles, etc may not be known and is therefore being interpreted through a modern lens. Interpretation of the past always occurs through our own experiences, and our culture affects how we’re going to see the past. Common historical issue.

You transformed yourself so well I didn't recognize it was you in the thumbnail photo! Great job - I've been interested in Beauty, fashion and lifestyle history since I was a kid - these are my absolute favorite types of videos to watch.
Debbie Harry from Blondie and Joan Jett look like they would be a ton of fun to re-create...late '70's / early '80's. I like Debbie Harry's lips and Joan Jett's eyes. They were punk and rock 'n' roll without looking too gothic.
Such a great channel! I'm obsessed with learning how people used to live. History is my thing. I'm loving that I can add these every day details to my knowledge. Thanks!
This is my first time watching a video from this series and I'm extremely intrigued; I LOVE that you were so thorough with your research and information! Will definitely be checking out everything else!
This is so gorgeous!!!! I actually think those full close brows look amazing on you. Love these historical ones. I had totally forgotten till you did this one that the previous ones you had done was how I found you and became a subscriber. I love historical looks!! ❤️❤️❤️
I love these videos and all the extra little facts, it's so fascinating. It makes me even more excited to start my history degree in a couple of weeks!!
As an archaeologist (and makeup junkie), this is my favorite series on UA-cam. I appreciate your willingness to put the time in to actually research and not just use hollywoods interpretation!
YES absolutely the same love this serries for that reason
"It was believed eyelashes fell out during excessive sex" I LAUGHED
Marli Lauren Me too . Lmao, like literally. I tried not to be too loud ( husband is sleeping at the moment !! ). That was just so freaking hysterical.
Damn, my poor eyelashes!!
I'm dead!!
My eyelashes are straight/laid, like a line. They already seem non existent, so if I went to Ancient Rome.... They would look at me in shock.
Bringing your brows closer together made your nose appear broader & stronger. It's a stunning look.
Haha I found it funny men thought make up was deceptive! nothing has changed
Right?! Haha!
Boy you’re not kidding. My husband says , “ who are you trying to impress, anyway. It’s me you should be impressing....” lol
Have you seen those “makeup transformation compilations?” Once you see some of those, you’ll agree....
bluedreamboat boi, have you SEEN what girls look like before and after makeup??
@@SpyderT22 What are you talking about? MY EYELIDS ARE NATURALLY BLACK AND FULL OF GLITTER!!! xD
It would be fun to see you do something like the Geisha or eastern Dynasties.
Great idea!
OMG, WAS ABOUT TO ASK THE SAME!👘💄👀💅💋
Yes please!!
I vote for Geisha, too!
was about to ask for something similar. it would be interesting to see her features with geisha styled makeup...
what about a Celtic look if would be fun to see when that look got started
Omg BLUE!!!
I didn't know everywhere girl in my school was inspired by Ancient Rome
:D
Neither, gosh.
I giggled when you had the subtitle that long lashes were a sign of chastity and then you said you don't have any lashes lol! I absolutely love these recreations and appreciate all the time you put in to them. ♥ Elle
Haha!! You got it! ;)
what song is that at the end I love the music and the makeup look
Could you do tutorial on mideval ottoman makeup ... thanks
Me too I love anything 1800s or 1960s and behind
This turned out so beautiful, regal & elegant.
This might be weird but I actually think the closer brow looked good.
I think this is my favorite in the series so far! So well done, Zabrena. I love how you did your hair. It's also amazing how brows can transform one's face - I actually think those brows looked good on you, but then again you can pull off just about anything :D
Ikr? She can slap anything on her face and still look like a super model!
True that, Zabrena's truly amazing ^w^
"Romans were very big on hygiene" - Thought bubble pops up about Romans using excrement, bile and animal urine as face masks lmfaoo
They were compared to the rest of the world at that time.
Dia E well compared to the Celtic....
Ppl nowadays are swallowing doping stuff which makes their testicles shrink, inject neurotoxines like Botox and drinking urine for a better health (in money society). Who do you try to fool,Mr. Smartass?
Stephanie drinking urine is like insanely dangerous lmao
Can you do Italian Renaissance makeup? :)
I like the eyebrows on her tbh.
The arch look amazing on her 💜
Yess she looks so stunning
Yaaas!
I was going to say the same thing! ❤️
Forgive my ignorance, but what does tbh mean?
"Roman men viewed the use of cosmetics as manipulative and deceptive. Sound familiar?" LOL
I liked this video even before watching because this series is the reason why I subscribed to you!
Omg me too
Same here :-)
Between the unibrows, dung in cosmetics, and "eyelashes falling out from excessive sex"... how the heck did they even procreate?
Girl, I don't know! The dung itself would have been enough to make men want to run the other direction I would think!!
ROFL!
I'd like to know who first looked at dung and thought, wow, I should rub this on my face to look better!
+Tisiphone2 I bet it started as a practical joke. like, "Hey Ed, check this out... excuse me, ma'am? Did you know that this will get you straight into the afterlife?" haha
I guess we could say they looked like s...!
I'm guessing one of the great advantages to having a servant put on makeup for you would be that they didn't have (good) mirrors back then - could you do a video on how people (might have) done their own makeup without a mirror, or with only a bronze disc (or whatever they substituted with back then)? ILove Privacy You bring up an excellent point. I will put on a subdued lipstick without a mirror, perhaps powder my nose, but that’s about it.
And boy-oh-boy, I wish I had someone to help me with my hair styling.
Expensive make up for people with more money and less expensive for people with less....nothing changed really. ;)
I would love to see a hispanic heritage & history makeup tutorial. Spain, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Brazil, Mexico, etc.
Spain did whatever the rest of Europe was doing. The rest were all natives and wore face paint
+shadowsinmymind9 depending on the civilization you're referring to. Mexica and Cholulans definitely had different looks from their paintings.
+Iceechibi thats cool. Ive never seen anything on makeup worn by natives in that part of the world. It would be nice to find information on that
Spain shouldn't be lumped with Mexico and South America. Which excludes Brazilians.
Mina Del Cali,
That comment wasn't necessary. All of hispanic culture is beautiful world wide and none is better than the other. We are all diverse and wonderful.
seriously that's such a flattering look for you! :)
😂😭😂 I must be having 'excessive sex' because I have zero lashes
Ps. Happy Birthday!!! 💕🍰🍰💝🎁🎀🎈🎊
Cracking me up! That must be my problem, too LOL ;) Thank you for the birthday wishes, love!!
at last! another historically accurate makeup tutorial! these videos got me into makeup 😍
I hope Victorian England is next
oh yes agrees... victorian england would be soooooo interesting especially if she does the traditional braid over the ears look...
Yes! I am thinking the same. i wish we could see Victorian look :)
Actually, Victorian English women did not wear makeup, as they associated it with prostitutes. However, she could technically do a Victorian prostitute makeup tutorial... 😁
Lisa Eldredge did a tutorial on that time period. It's amazing. That's how I found Zabrina.
+Alix Androvna i think normally just powder was used but very little, they would bite their lips or use berries as a natural stain and they would pinch their cheeks to make them look naturally flushed
its amazing how bows can change your look all together...
Do a historically accurate makeup tutorial on Geishas please!
Out of all the makeup channels I subscribe to, I get more excited about these tutorials than anything!
I love all of your videos, but the "half face" and historically accurate are some of my favorites.
Do a historically accurate arabic makeup tutorial or egiptian
She has an Egypt one
not the same
I would love to see that too.
She already did ancient Egypt/ cleopatra tutorial awhile back, it is in her historical accurate tutorial playlist! 😊
Can you do a 1860s vintage makeup look?! PLEASE 💘
I m sure your baby will know everything about history and makeup ,since he/she has been listening to his/her mumma ! ☺️☺️🙈 love you zabrena , you are one of the kindest and sweetest UA-camrs I know of ! 😚😚😘 take care and God bless you .
Maybe you could do a peasant look sometime, from any era pre-20th century that peasants might have access to makeup.
ooh that would be interesting
yeah!!!
Hey guys, so I am a historian and make-up did not become readily available or affordable in North America/Northern Europe until the twentieth century thanks to industrialization.
+Brittany Goetting ☹️Did they at least use anything natural???
Roxy Ross Rose Not really. During that time period and era, make-up was considered only to really be for actresses or others of "ill-repute". The most they likely would have done was maybe pinch their cheeks to make themselves look healthier. Other cultures during that time period certainly used make-up, but not North American/Northern European.
I love the little facts you put at the bottom! It really provides a lot of insight on how different things were in the past
Take yo girl to the Roman baths when you first start courting her.
I got so excited when this notification popped up on my phone as the historically accurate series is how I found you and I LOVE that series! It didn't disappoint! Can't wait to see the glam rock!
Missed this series! Hope you can do a French Wave version (inspired by the likes of Anna Karina, Catherine Deneuve etc)!
I absolutely adore this series Zabrena! You are looking absolutely radiant!
I love this series! Thank you for putting in so much time and effort! I'd love to see a civil war era southern belle look please.
wowowow your hair is SO GORGEOUS when you styled it!!! I mean your hair is always gorgeous but wow!!! the color mixed with the spiral texture, it looks so amazing!!!

hurray for a new historical makeup video! these are probably my favorite of all your videos, and i like most everything you do!

I love all the research you put into these video's.
and no matter how weird or strange the looks were at the time, you always make them look fabulous.
Yay I'm so glad you came out with this!!! Totally lifted my mood!! Can you do an ancient Indian (not native Americans) makeup tutorial??? Thanks for the videos these are my favorites!!
As a history student I love that you are basing your videos on real evidence! Your videos are amazing - keep up the good work :D
Please do one on ancient greece!
This look is amazing on you, by far the best one in the series! That green is just so super pretty with your skin and hair!
You could try Japanese geisha makeup from the 1700s!
Olivia 392 she wouldn’t because of cultural appropriation, but she could do it on a Japanese model
@@laprincesa3608 What? 😂
"Romans were big on hygiene."
Also the Romans: used bile as moisturizer and crocodile shit to whiten their faces.

Lovelyyyyyy
pls do victorian england make up
she did a queen Elizabeth one that would probably be something you're looking for :)
+Haleigh Ratosky That would be Elizabethan make up. Victorian times were quite a bit later! So many Kings and Queens...! 😄 xx
but I feel that's like the closest you'll probably get lol
+Haleigh Ratosky Not really. Those eras were 300 or so years apart. Elizabethan times were all heavily leaded faces and mask like, whereas I think Victorian times were much more subtle. Make up was frowned upon in those days, as being cheap and common and only for prostitutes. Charming, eh?! 😆 xx
+Haleigh Ratosky thats wayyyyy before. like 250 years before Victorian times. most Victorian women didnt even wear makeup.
I absolutely loved this! The end look was so different but so beautiful and I so appreciate all the historical information!
Well...." when in Rome..." LOL. Actually the eyebrows kinda look like the Instagram brows going on right now...and I personally can't wait for them to be "historic" too....😉. Great video!
I love the thought you put into these videos! They are one of my favorite series!
Hi Zabrena! LOVE your channel! Maybe a Historically Accurate Tutorial featuring Geisha? Ancient China or Japan? Thought that may be really cool!
Congratulations to you, your hubby and family on your little guy! Such an exciting time! :) Love Always!
Also, Happy Birthday!! Enjoy your day!! :)
I love how you spend so much time researching the time period before you make a tutorial on it 😍
How about a Disney Princess series?? I think you would look great as Cinderella. :)
I'm so excited that you added another historically accurate makeup video:)
Would be interesting to see looks from Ancient Greece, Asia, or the Middle East!
I love these historically accurate tutorials, especially the pop up facts
