Aiyima a08 review
I use the A07. That 300 watt power rating is at about 10% distortion. Additionally I've done some digging into the DIY forums and most users recommend against the 48 volt supply for two reasons. The 48v power supply 1. reduces the lifespan of the 3255 chip and 2. increases distortion. A much safer way to go is to use a better 36v supply. Such as a 36v 10amp cage type power supply. That supply provides the same amount of power, 360 watts, as a 48v 8.3 amp supply. 36v seems to be the sweet spot for this chip. I use the cage type supply and get more than enough volume. Plus the 3255 is not pushed as close to it's maximum voltage.
This is very helpful information. Thank you for sharing!!!
Does your a07 run warm with 36v psu
I keep seeing recommendations for Meanwell power supplies but I can't find them (in the UK) for a sensible price!
@@louise_8546 I purchased one of the power supplies from Amazon. Works well.
Which one would you recommend Kenneth and don't you have to wire it up?
I bought the A08 Pro about a month ago and am quite happy with it. I also use the T8 preamp with it. I only stream music via Bluetooth so the auto connect feature is not a problem, though the initial connection was a bit problematic because on my phone, both the A08 and the T8 appear as only "Aiyima" in the bluetooth list so there is no way to tell which you are connected to. Once I figured that out, it has been easy to use.
I bought a remote switchable outlet so I could turn both devices on remotely. Then everything I need to do can be accomplished through the T8 remote. This may be why the A08 does not come with a remote, because Aiyima wants you to purchase the T8 preamp too. I did, and together they are super easy to use and sound great together.
I have the cheap but nice Sony SSC5S speakers connected to the system.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!
I have been using the A08pro for almost a year and never failed to disappoint me! It replaces my $3000USD+ amp comfortably. I mean the one I'm using is no slouch at all that speaks loudly.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!
That's exactly what I've been wondering. I have a trusty Vincent SV-226MK that was 1200€ list price 20 years ago, one of those huge 20kg/45 pound behemoths with virtually endless power for smaller rooms. Now it needs some repairs, and honestly it's always been a bit overkill for me, especially when paired with an active subwoofer and not even needing to amplify bass under 50 Hz. although of course the sound and effortless power is great. Downside: it drinks a lot of juice, and is very large.
I've been wondering whether one of these new small class D amps could sufficiently replace it for little money, like this one. Especially since for around 220€ I could get an A08 Pro and a T8, convenient for input options including Bluetooth.
I guess I'll just try that combo. And simply return it if I'm not satisfied.
@@ropeburn6684 You will not be disappointed as A08pro is so well designed , the engineer who designed this little unit actually tested it as if designing an equipment 20, 30 times more than its cost! Shows the love. Note, not all Chinese little D amos sound the same, even from same brand.
Very straightforward and informative video,on this equipment…….Thank You!!!!!!
Thank you!
Regarding the first issue, I did have a similar scenario play out where I didn't realize the bluetooth had reconnected, but the bright blue ring vs the red ring around the volume control did make it obvious. How you went through multiple devices and never noticed that is odd. Red for RCA and Blue for Bluetooth.
Color coding is fine, but it still shouldn't defeat to BT automatically. Just my opinion! Thanks for watching.
Love my T9 pro!
I’ve enjoyed mine too!
Have you used it as a preamp?
@@crazyprayingmantis5596 nope. It’s my only amp.
Just use a smart plug and the remote that comes with the t8 it's intended preamp .
By the way the 48v power supply is a worthy upgrade
I have a mini amp that does the same thing, but simply switching off the BT source disconnects the amp BT.
thanks for the review! im looking this AIYIMA A08 PRO to use with my turntable + phono stage. how would i connect the phono stage - through the aux or rca inputs. then speakers into the AIYIMA or leave them into the phono stage?
The turntable will plug into the input on the external phono preamp which will then plug the output into the RCA input on the a08 Pro. The speakers will be connected to the a08 Pro as well!
Great video . I have this Aiyima set up with a pair of Elac BS41 and a Sub1010…. It’s awesome.
Love that. Thanks for watching!
Aaron, Im trying to find the main difference in sound between A08 Pro vs T9 Pro, purely for Bluetooth use. can you give any input on it just from sound perspective, connectivity, price and aesthetic aside. And Thanks for your reviews.
Honestly, the sound difference different enough to my ears to pick one over the other. Some folks claim to hear a difference in sound when rolling the tubes on the T9 Pro, but I just haven't been able to hear enough to say you have to get the T9 Pro for tubes. I would suggest saving money and grabbing the a08 Pro if you are only using it for Bluetooth as you mention.
Well I do like that.
Thank You for the videos. Would a Aiyima ao7 upgraded, or a08 be better for a underpowered AVR hooked to DF Pro Towers400 at 250 rms be better? my avr is Yamaha a780 at 95w.
Great question - unfortunately I have not used the a07 so I cannot speak to it's performance.
I'm currently looking at purchasing a class d but not sure which one would be best the aiyima A08 or the D03? I will be pairing it with the elac 6.2s
I haven’t used the D03 so can’t speak to its performance. Almost all class d amps will pair fine with the Elacs.
There are now some A08 Pro Aliexpress listings that offer a 48V option now (I bought mine back in September and that wasn't the case then). Though, it's hard to see what the output is. From pictures, the 48V looks like a similar powerbrick to the stock 36V.
I've seen lots of arguments about 48V power supplies and the TPA3255. Some insist you're encouraging overheating (these units aren't well-ventilated anyway, obviously) and / or limiting its lifespan by doing so. Others reckon you'll be fine.
Think 36V is the best sweet spot as far as longevity and output goes.
Yeah I agree on the 36v! Thanks for watching!
@@ForeverAnalog One of those situations where I watched, commented, then realised other commenters were saying the same anyway X) I Subscribed :)
I love reading all informative comments so I’m grateful no matter what!
I have my aiyima t9 and I love it for movies lately with 2 Jamo s807 towers and a Sony core series sub. I usually listen at 15 or so clicks/50% volume and it’s fine. I think the power ratings on these is overkill like you said in most situations. It’s nice to have overkill I guess but it’s rarely needed unless you wanna bleed your ears lol.
Glad the T9 is working well for you!
Have you used it just as a preamp?
What do you think? Are my ideas appropriate for this amp at this price point?
The Aiyima A07 is king but now the A07 pro is out for $80 and almost no reviews
I'm wondering if you used BT aptX HD from the source, since this amp has aptX HD?
I can't recall sorry and have this subbed out now for another piece of gear I'm testing. If I get it back in the system, I'll let you know. But in all honesty, the auto BT defeating of sound annoyed me enough to put this at the bottom of my gear list.
@@ForeverAnalog You should not be so dismissive of the BT on this device if you tested it with SBC. That might be why your experience was so poor (that said, SBC, when implemented properly, can be almost transparent, depending on the source implementation). That's unfortunate because aptX HD is transparent from uncompressed formats, or nearly so in blind listening tests. However, to be fair to aptX (or SBC) you also need to start with an uncompressed file or one compressed in a nonLossy format, such as FLAC or CD ROM.
Keep the source and sink as close as possible for your listening test. I'm interested because I was thinking about picking up this device, even though I have high end preamp sinks. If the aptX HD implementation is that bad, then I'm going to pass on it.
Does the AIYIMA A08 PRO have a remote?
also how will this work with the AIYIMA T8?
As the AIYIMA T8 comes with a remote.
No remote on the a08 Pro as mentioned in the video.
You set the volume to your personal sweet spot or max volume one the A08 Pro and then regulate it on the T8 with the remote control (or volume knob).
another situation would be, while you are comfortably listening to your turntable, some guy from the other room connetcts to your device via bluetooth. RCA/AUX should be the priority source, not bluetooth.
True!
My A08 pro has Bluetooth issue when it connect to my laptop, Lenovo legion5i 2022 which supports Bluetooth 5.1. The problem is that It always lag 2seconds when I play a video or music (I mean the first 2sec have no voice but the video is still playing), which is very obvious while I watch UA-cam and it really ruin my using experience. My another laptop, acer swift sf-314 also has the same problem. but this kind of issue has never happend on my Boss soundlink mini2 or other no brand BT speaker. Does anyone has the same experience? By the way, there's no problem when I connect to RCA but I really don't like to use a cable..
Can I hook up a equalizer to this amp?…….Thanks
I do not use an equalizer so I’m not an expert but looking online I think you need more than one rca input on the amp to connect an EQ so it wouldn’t work for this amp. Could be wrong though.
Hi Sir ,
Do you recommend A07 Pro or A08 Pro ?
They almost have the same spec but A07 is cheaper than A08.
Thank you
I haven’t used the 07 pro but I wasn’t a fan of the 08 pro Bluetooth settings so I would try the 07 first
@ForeverAnalog thank you
BTW, did you upgrade the power supply to 36v , 48v or still using the original 32v 5A on A07 ?
The reason I ask about the pro version because they have a better power supply 36v 6A so I can drive my speakers louder .
I didn’t upgrade the power supply
@ForeverAnalog thank you for letting me know that
BTW, I have another question about the 36V 6A PS come with A08 pro . Their website say the 36V 6A PS will give 85w @ 8 Ohm
Is the 85w for each channel or for 2 channels which is 42.5w each channel?
Thanks
Do I need a preamp for the Aiyima ?
Nope!
Is this capable of obtaining 192 khz bit rate if I play a Mster(MQA) track on Tidal for example?
When I use my Sony Xperia 1 IV, I only gets a bitrate of 48kHz and when I'm using my Google Pixel , i am getting 192kHz using Aiyima 08 Pro connected by USB. Still my source is Tidal app. Any ideas? :)
Class D sounds better than a class AB and the Aiyima 07 whit the 3255 chip is the king😛
Definitely the best budget king. Now the A07 pro is the way to go
Really! remote is more important than beefy chip with more power.
Really! You're willing to pay more for t9 pro than better processing at lower price from better processor in a08 😅
I'm just picking on you 😂 its just your preference maybe a bit different than I 😅
Really.
Just that fact that there's no manual switch for BT/RCA, I won't buy this amp. I don't want BT to be constantly 'on' and I definitely want an off switch for it that my fingers can press.
@Douglas Blake Holy crap, I forget how good I have it here, with a house that's far away from neighbors to be outside of range of their BT... imagine the adrenaline shock when your stereo starts blasting something that the neighbor thought was his own BT device, but ended up connecting to yours instead.
Totally agree and that`s why I got the A07 Pro that has such a switch.
@@giovannicassano8387 You happy with your A07 Pro ?
Well I do like that.
And you don't have to tell your phone to forget, just turn off your phones bluetooth or, select disconnect . You do not have to unpair. What is the difference between a button on the device and turning off Bluetooth on your phone it's actually more convenient on your phone.
It's an amplifier you don't need a remote Usually whatever you hook it up to has a remote like your TV or your prayer or your streamer. And the price is too cheap it should be charging $200 for this thing as good as it sounds. On Bluetooth I need to make sure your phone or streamer is up to the current standards of the Aiyma. Completely fails to address the feature output would you could Daisy chain these amplifiers, Or add a subwoofer, If you Daisy chain them you can basically mono block to one channel using the 1 app as a biamp source to one biampable speaker. So in short this review is biased and incomplete.
Yeah, I’m just not a big subwoofer user so I try to let other reviewers comment on those features. Thanks for watching!
A BT on / off or source select switch would have multiple benefits. If your scenario only involves one phone, ok, not much of a problem. But as soon as multiple devices 'enter the room' it becomes a real issue.
Just as an example, my whole family has access to my A08 Pro (and all other amps). I was listening to music via RCA when somebody else got a voice message. They wanted to listen to it with their BT headset and activated BT on the phone. As it wasn't set properly to not auto-connect to my amps, the phone chose the A08 Pro (which is always in pairing mode) and everyone was now listening to the message instead of my music.
Now use your imagination with kids who have a strange sense of humor or a nasty neighbour within BT range (my phones reach the amps easily through the wall from another room) and you may see why it may not be a good idea to have your amp (or any other device) always forced in pairing mode. Not to mention privacy issues if you're not just listening to music ...
can't you just toggle the Bluetooth off?
I no longer use this unit and this review was done awhile ago, but if my memory is correct, there was not a way to disable bluetooth on the unit, you would have to do so on your phone. So whenever, I powered on the amp, it auto connected to bluetooth which I found very annoying and the main reason I stopped using it.
