- Ann Richards changed the world by making it better for many who had been discriminated against or marginalized. She was sharp and witty, and she got things done. Holland Taylor changes the world through her art. She is an Emmy award winning actress who has written and stars in a one woman show about Ann Richards. We went to see Holland bring Ann Richards to life on Broadway. We ended up getting 2 Smart Girls for the price of one.
FABULOUS PHENOMENAL
I was there the night Ann Richards gave her victory speech the night she became governor of Texas. Should be noted she was introduced to the stage by the first openly gay man to serve in the Texas Legislature, Glen Maxey. This was inspirational to me as a 9 year old closeted gay kid to get involved in politics some 18 years later. I now chair a City of Austin Commission that worked to end discrimination.

Hi! My name is Jackie and I am 18 years old. I just want to start off by saying that you are probably my favorite person in the whole world. Seriously! Whenever I'm upset or having a bad day I go watch an episode of parks and rec or my favorite movie ever (Baby Mama) just to take my mind off of some things and have a good laugh :) You are so funny.. you're like the modern version of lucille ball- and I definitely won't say that about just anyone! I understand that you're very busy and probably won't even have the chance to read this, but I just really wanted you to know that. I think you are an amazing woman and I hope to grow up to be like you someday. Love you Amy! :)

I loved Ann Richards so much, and this play was flawless! I’m still sad that she didn’t run for President. I think she was (and still is) just what this country needs.
If Ann Richards were still alive, she would put Rick Perry over her knee, and rightly so. I can't believe how TX went from her to him. (love the dance parties!) Holland Taylor is a delight!

I saw the Gov live in Baltimore MD in 1992. She was AMAZING. I was awestruck at how to the point she spoke on issues but also with that Texas drawl and expression.
Wow, I'm so glad and grateful that people put effort and time into making these videos. It really gives me more faith in the world and I get to hear about stories that I wouldn't have heard about.
Amy, you are one smart girl so I know you realize how important this timing is as we fight for women's rights in Texas today (as we have been fighting all through June). Thank you for highlighting Holland Taylor and Ann Richards. These women give us strength!

I loved Ann, I love Holland, and boy, I am positively nuts about you and what you're doing here with the Smart Girls thing. My daughter is 10, in love with Lucille Ball and Lily Tomlin and recently announced that "I don't want to be famous, but I do want to be a comedic actress." Ha! We're working our way up through SNL's history, and I'm introducing her to the greats, you included. Thanks for what you're doing for her and girls everywhere. I think you're amazing.
