I've met Geoffrey Holder twice, he's a good man, legendary actor. He even loved my artwork when I visited him at New York Comic Con. He told me to never give up, believe in myself, and that's what I've been doing. I've heard the sad news that he passed away at age 84, so if I ever decide to make an animated cartoon, I'm dedicating it to him in his honor. Thank you, Geoffrey Holder for the wonderful memories you've given us in great legendary entertainment. We'll never forget you! Truly marvelous!
I truly agree. He also sang the song "Kiss The Girl" from Disney's The Little Mermaid at the Academy Awards many years ago. And I do remember those classic 7-UP commercials he starred in, too. Geoffrey Holder was truly one of a kind, a legend in black entertainment.
The most striking scene in any movie I've ever seen was when he rose from the grave, underneath the top hat in the 007 movie. That stuck with me. That was some powerful voodoo.
Good Advice! Good Advice! Geoffrey Holder was incredibly good in the musical movie classic "Doctor Doolittle" and the James Bond movie "Live And Let Die"
+Mario Iacolucci He didn't die in "Live And Let Die" If you have seen the movie, you will notice at the very end he was perched on the front of the train doing his hearty laugh.
unhooked25 Not to mention did a great job as Ray the Sun in Bear in the Big Blue House. *sigh* I still miss that man; he may have been old, but he still got the spirit he had so long ago.
You make an interesting observation. It is little known but Lucas considered Holder for the voice of Vader, but he could not drop his accent. Lucas wanted a straight dialect that had no particular accent to it. But yes, had Holder had a good dialect coach, he would have made an excellent Vader.
They were in the movie “Swashbuckler” together, with him being in the minor role but Jones 2nd billing. Originally, it was supposed to be the other way around.
Wow, just the other day I was talking about the crocodile scene from this movie...Live and let die. He was 84 though, that was pretty old....He was that man with the booming laugh in that James Bond movie.....Played that part so well.
Mr Geoffrey Holder is more than just an actor and dancer but he most importantly a sage who imparted wisdom for the coming generation. Kudos to and RIP brother Geoffrey.
Interesting how Geoffrey almost ended up being the voice of Darth Vader. I’d say he’d have made an interesting Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don’t know...they have something similar going on in terms of wit and character etc.
Geoffrey is my dads uncle no lie and i never got to met him because i dont live in new york he truly is n inspiration to me and you can believe if you want cuz im telling the truth.
I remember hearing his voice on the radio when I was 5-6 years old since my school would always tune into 95.5 FM for the Smooth Jazz station. I was always interested in figuring out who it was saying "Smooooooth Jazz! 95.5, KYOoooT." Really cool guy!

Interviewer: What State, is the famous horse race known as the Kentucky Derby, raced in? Brain dead college students: Illinois? (true story). When you have students like that, the Universities were robbed of Mr. Geoffrey Holder!
Exactly, I totally agree. His performance in Boomerang drew me in to the point that I had to learn more about him and purchased the Carmen & Geoffrey documentary. Eventually, I saw & seized an opportunity to meet him in person two years before he transitioned.

Passion, intelligence, creativity, and joy of life. What more can you ask from a human being? One of the legends.
Loved him in "Live and Let Die" and love him even more after watching this!

He was born in Trinidad, which is why he talks with the Caribbean patois.
Such a wonderful performer and actor! I absolutely loved his voice! ❤

Apparently a lot of people back then thought it was Holder doing the voice since Jones hadn't been credited at that point

The late actor Geoffery Holder aka Baron Samedi in the Bond movie Live and Let Die.
Extraordinarily talented person and a consummate gentleman. He and his wife were staples on Broadway as choreographers, actors and writers.
His voice is right up there with James Earl Jones.
