    I worked for glasser in hawaii for few months. Biggest time saving tip is to use hard back sander on first pass. Like 60 grit. Especially on laps of glass on rails. Fast and end up with smoother end product but have to be careful not to sand through. Lol. Great video. I could almost smell the resin. Mahalo.

I've stopped glassing in my bedroom due tio temperature. (my dog and I are forced to seep in the lounge when glassing) Next spring, I'm putting something like this shelter in my small garden . but I havent seen a large shelter like yours here in the UK?. could you give us the make and size and cost $$££of that plastic frame tarp shelter set up? thankyou . Love this video. one of the best on utube from start to finish, perfect and to the point.

      Thanks. It’s inside my garage. It’s a portable walk-in green house I purchased on amazon for $100. I live in Orange County, California so it doesn’t get too cold but I use a few heaters in the winter to keep it up to temperature. I think the the green house is 7x7x12. Here is a link to a similar one: www.amazon.com/dp/B001QIHEY0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JggUDbZG7YZZ9

      Tanner Bendheim thanks I will go online and look for it. being portable you can put it in your bedroom, passage, garden, courtyard, garage and shape all day long I'm in heaven WAAAAAAA! I live on the English channel in Devon. this particular area in the south of Devon doesn't have any waves except in winter so you have to drive 40 miles to the nearest good wave up the coast at Bigsbury beach.. I am lucky though, even though this is in the beautiful green country side we have a surf supplier for blanks 3o miles away in Kingsbridge called Triocean its a great friendly surfshop. In the north of Devon waves are pretty good and plentiful.. What does freak me out here in devon is the stupid liberals. like California its run by the libdems and so there are the same problems you are facing in California. I am a British Trump supporter cheers , surfs up!

      Hey Tanner, Do you use anything to clean the board after sanding the hot coat? My last board I sanded then used denatured alcohol to clean the board before the gloss coat and ended up with tons of uneven spots.
      Gary

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  4 роки тому

      I usually wipe it down with a rag and then blow it off with a shop vac. I do also use denatured alcohol but very little. I just dab a little onto a rag and do a quick wipe down of the board. Be sure to sand in long drawn out passes to help keep the board even. I also get uneven spots some times, it’s hard to make it perfect. Good luck!

    Hey bro, when you finish the second fiberglass layer on the top deck. Do you not have to sand smooth the cut joint on the bottom of the board (see 1:48) cheers

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  4 роки тому

      Yes, I always clean up my cutlaps to try and make them as smooth as possible. You can sand them down with a hard block with sandpaper or sanding disc. You only need to hit the rough spots or bumps to make it all flat and smooth. Just be careful not to sand too aggressive so you don't sand away the color if using a tint. Good luck!

For glassing, when do you use laminating resin and sanding resin? And do you use both? Thanks, i may learn the hard way!

    • @jipanzz

      Sanding resin (with added wax in styrene) is for the hotcoat (after glassing the board)

      Laminating resin with the fiberglass cloth and sanding resin for the hot coat to seal it. Use laminating resin for the fin and leash plugs as well. Laminating resin bonds to the board better and sanding resin allows you to sand once cured

    • @BendheimBoards

      I usually sand any excess resin or high spots. I also try to press the first lap down with a tongue depressor to be somewhat level with the foam. Not sure I’m visualizing exactly what your describing but adding the gloss coat won’t get rid of any bumps or gaps. I suggest sanding it even and then applying the gloss coat. You won’t have to worry about small burn throughs since your adding the gloss coat. Good luck!

    In hotcoat and gloss coat!
    lovely job , nice work!

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  5 років тому

      Thanks! Here is the grit progression: After the hot coat start with 120, then 150, 220, 320 and 400. Wet sanding with 320 and 400 is also a good idea. This will give your board a matte-finish. After the gloss coat, start with 320 grit then move to 400, 600, 800, 1000, and 1,200. You should wet sand all of these grits. Then finish with compounding liquid and then polishing liquid. Good luck!

    Do you have any videos of how to repair a delaminated board? I've got a retro fish and the underside from nose to mid section has delaminated and come away (not just bubbled)

      Sorry not yet. There are others out there on UA-cam though

    Any reason you don't spackle the board before glassing? Have you ever spackled a board to compare?

      I’m not familiar with that method. I think it’s for EPS blanks, I only use PU blanks.

    Quick question, can you tell me if it's possible to put epoxy resin (as a final layer) directly after painting with acrylic spray, or i should use fiberglass? It is not super professional board, just first experiments... ;) Thank you!

      Are you spray painting the foam blank or after the hot coat?

      @@BendheimBoards i sanded the old board a little bit and repaired dings, and now painting, under the paint it has epoxy layers ;)

      Hard to say when I can’t see it but the general answer is yes you can put epoxy resin over acrylic spray paint. Fiberglass cloth is the strength of the board so as long as the original fiberglass cloth is in good shape you should be ok.

    Would it work if I used a sharpie to make the stringer black?

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  2 роки тому +1

      No it will bleed with the resin. Use a water based paint or posca paint pen

    Hey Tanner, love watching your videos. Do you have any tips for laminating the swallow tail? I can never lam the buttcrack area on the first go. Also the swallow tips tend to get pretty messy.

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  4 роки тому +2

      After my lamination I put an additional clear patch of fiberglass on the deck side of the swallow tail to cover the section of foam that my cut lap doesn’t get. If your doing a resin tint color just be sure to get the color on that section of foam even if the fiberglass doesn’t cover it. Then go in with the clear patch. Works great. For the tail tips just make sure you are checking your angle cuts on the fiberglass and how they will fold before adding the resin so you have clean overlaps. Good luck!
