What is the Longest Album Ever?

- The length of an album is typically between 30 minutes and 2 hours, but there are a plethora of strange and intriguing musical projects which defy these conventions immensely.

Welcome! Guineax is awesome. His content is seriously polished for such a small channel.
@@WobblesandBean well I see that he finally made a hit video and now he hasn't uploaded for months. What happened?
Now it's 10k :)
@@pureguava yeah, where did Guineax go?
This video never gets old for me. I watched it like 6 times....
24:59 this BAFFLES me, i cant wrap my head around how this is possible
Sleep's Dopesmoker album, which is basically a single song that reaches an hour and a few minutes, is pretty much the most popular long metal song
Confessions of Lazarus by Diabarha is a 9 hour abrasive speedcore project. Probably deserves to be on here (though you may not have heard of it)

11:02 This record was beaten by The Things They Did for Me Out of Love by Yeule, which is 4 hours and 44 minutes
3:47 Speaking of which, the Band's 1978 live album "The Last Waltz" clocks in at roughly a minute and a half shorter than Otokotachi no Wakare.
How long r those?
Great work! FINALLY someone who actually talks about Onistwave experiment 33!
this is the type of comment to appear in a sitcom idk why but it just gives that energy
For me, if the runtime is artificially extended by looping, sampling, or slowing-down, it's an instant disqualification.
Very impressed by this video. Super well researched and intriguingly assembled.
Edit: I’m so glad you mentioned Bull of Heaven’s puzzlebox releases! I find it so interesting how bad I want to hear what’s locked within even though I know it will disappoint. I think that’s the point tho? Who knows?
Well, I don't know :)
Please come back. Your country needs you 😢
Holy Crap! Thanks for mentioning my music
i really hope you continue making videos at some point
you've made some of my favourite videos about music & i'd love to see you continue going with this kinda stuff
This Channel is a hidden gem wtf. Keep doing what ur doing!
please come back to youtube guineax
Some of Autechre's more recent albums are also worth a mention. Exai is around 2 hours long, elesq is 4 hours all together, and NTS Sessions is a staggering 8 hours when counting them all as one big project.
But still, great video! Deserves way more views.
AE_LIVE was like 28.5 hours long. Mad
Rip Channel
Some of my favourites:
Earlyguard - Continuo. " The complete cycle features 12 interconnected longform minimal ambient recordings with a total duration of nearly ten hours of music." I've listened to this around 8-10 times now and love it.
Robert Rich - Somnium. "A 7-hour album divided into three tracks on one DVD video".
Scott Lawlor - Drones for Quietude. "6 tracks spanning 8 hours of subdued minimal ambience for sleeping, resting, relaxation and perhaps, even deep meditation."
Several of State Azure's generative ambient pieces are released as 2-hour albums with a single track, often edited down from the original 4-hour performances.
December Nightskies & Scott Lawlor - Vatnajökull. "Take a trip around the largest most voluminous icecap in iceland as you explore some of it's outlet glaciers. This 5 hour journey will take you to exotic locations like Hvannadalshnúkur, Breidamerkurjökull and Hoffellsjökull."
State Azure - Streams and Streams II - clocking in at 4hr and 3.5hr respectively, again edited highlights from much longer live performances.
NEW RECORD: French Montana - Mac & Cheese 5 (Versions)
Another one disappeared
Should have mentioned siivagunner in the begining
They consistantely put out 15+ hour albums full of meme parodies of game music
back again with another masterpiece
This is amazing content about all types of music but for some reason is underrated
I listened to the entirity of the rise and fall of bossanova once
Are u still here boy?
These are honestly great videos
bro why are you not here anymore
3:59 "While Fishmans are yet to partake in a longer album"
This is probably because the lead singer died from heart issues just a few weeks after the release of 98.12.28. The band split up shortly after.
I just found your channel and I’m really enjoying your videos. Hope you come back to make more one day!
Imagine listening to all of those albums...back to back
id go insane
Yet another out of the park video, this is the cat's pyjamas. amazing work yes yes!
this channel should have nearly million subscribers
This was created after this video, but on 8 Jan 2023, it was yet again surpassed, this time by da 's album 'F - Копия - Копия - Копия - Копия - Копия '
I wonder what you’re up to now. Hope you’re doing alright
AWESOME show! (Great job!!)
Amazing video, very interesting topic, thanks alot!
Keep your documentaries coming
also playing 005:a lovely pear during the last part was so perfect
Wait. You mean it's not "Everywhere At The End of Time"?
Edit: Why am I not surprised The Flaming Lips appears on this list
It tought it was that album, weird
EATEOT is only 6.5 hours but it still is long it’s just not the longest. Really great stuff, but it is removed from Spotify & many places bc of the samples
Its 310 (insert random symbols) made by bulls heaven
@@partypooper6044 3.343 QUINDECILLION FUCKING YEARS LONG ! 912 times the age of the fucking universe! He (Niel keener) has a bunch of songs like that! He has moar than 400 songs under the BoH name! Check him out!
@@ch3e5eburglvr Bro that's complete baloney LOL
this is really good man
Nowhere near the longest albums, but LCD Soundsystem and Kraftwerk both released 3+ hour live albums. LCD Soundsystem's 2014 release The Long Goodbye is the completely uncut final performance of the dance punk band in 2011 at Madison Square Garden. Kraftwerk's 3D The Catalogue from 2017 is the electronic pioneers playing through their entire discography, from Autobahn to Tour de France.
I make music and my albums (except 1) are hours long. I guess watching your video subtly and unknowingly made me make hours long albums.
Omni by Skin Tension would be an excellent addition if you make a part 2 or update to this vid; it's 27 hours long, but has a pretty insane amount of variation within it
Me and my friends made a 12 hour long concept album if you (or anyone else) is still interested.
im extremely interested
@@m4nofficiallyofficial part777 on Bandcamp. Album is called “aaugh”. UA-cam took my link down. I hope you enjoy it :)
@@SenorCinema im hyped, thank you
gotta love how it begins with the thx theme
hey i’ve seen that album before
Would like to add a somewhat silly one, i believe drew gooden listened to every single song by kids bop. I think one album had a master mix of "classics" and favorites just as a long album too.
btw the commented password for that boh album you mentioned was a troll lol
edit omg i just watched to the end thanks for the shoutout to my review xoxo!! and just to correct something a bit, their only works that used nested zip files were the bass pulse albums (such as 310)
yeah sorry about that
Criminally underrated channel.
Hell yea new guineax vid!
Where u goo
Yo this guy is turning into the next Vsauce
My brutal prog band released a 27 hour album back in February lol
Can someone explain how its possible to create a piece like 310? I get that its an incomprehensible amount of time, but how do you actually produce a recording that long even if its just one sound. Wouldnt there be a computing limit at some point?
nested zip files
basically a zip bomb of music
each base file is 29 hours long
I think ill stick to eateot, daughter of darkness and rainbow mirror ahah
The video was fascinating though!
Why do i hear battle cats music?
This channel sounds like Summoning Salt for music.
15:28 what’s eq?
So little views so underated
Soundtracks for the Blind should have been a shoe in.
Only 3800 views?
Impossible.

The entire calamity terraria OST if you count that as an album
I think it's the 10 hour Les Rallizes Denudes release :)
i dont think that counts because its just a collection of different bootlegs and shows, not a singular album
@@growskull :(
@@hayward325 still a good album tho 👍
wouldn't it technically be the vinyl release of Godspeed You! Black Emperor's "F#A#∞"? after the main album finishes, there is an actual infinite ambient loop.
i've seen track listings for the album list the actual length as about 38:30, with a "+infinity" tacked onto the end. i personally wouldn't consider infinite loops to be considered, especially in this case, as the needle is being dragged through the same groove repeatedly, which is kinda cheating.
Then by that definition, select pressings of Atom Heart Mother would also be of an infinite length as the sound of the dripping faucet at the end of Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast is printed into the locked groove of those pressings. Would that be the same for any record that uses the locked groove that way?
@@nuhuh9455 it really just falls into a "do *you* count it as this?" category once we start throwing infinite loops in the mix. I personally don't think locked grooves count, but some people may think otherwise.

how bout to part 2?
Bull of Heaven exists
19:00 where can I listen 2 JLIAT?
"A short sample of preparatory work- from proof of concept MP3s appears on The Wire tapper 28 Issue 338 April 2012 - Study for forthcoming 1 Terabyte DVD Noise release - 233 x DVD box set
(Schönberg Sechs kleine Klavierstücke, Op. 19)"
25:38 does anyone know how long that one is?
10^100 (googol) years, excerpt is available on Beholder of Miracle yt channel
Thanx! That will prob be the longest musical piece forever
@@rydglekI cant find it anywhere on yt.

I know, right? I never knew any of this stuff.
I wonder if one Wayne G will be on here

bull of heaven - a lovely pear
track at 19:01?
22:47 trust me
rhis creepy basta is scary omg
Bull of Heaven feels like a shitpost band
not to reply to a month old comment but even though some of bohs most well known music is fairly absurdist there's a lot of genuine artistry in their music and a really good amount of their stuff is really excellent!!
Hey, I know 秋! They're really cool.
14:49Minecraft jumpscare
wouldnt it be funny if instead of alb7m he was saying "dick" ahaha
yea lol
What is the shortest album ever 🤔
i think they put You Suffer on a 7" so i would probably say that
@@TooMuchFez yes, but that's a single, not an album.
apparently, it's bull of heaven again??? 266 is just 10 seconds long.
i guess if you don't want to count them, the record would go to begt's "the shortest album" at 12 seconds long. the shortest on spotify is earache's "the world's shortest album" at 92 seconds.
Bull of Heaven apperently has albums with negative song lengths sooo
Depends on your definition of an "album". Perhaps the shortest album that is actually an album (6+ tracks) is the 7 second album with 7 1-second tracks called "burger democracy" by futurespiritualman (I can send the bandcamp link if u want), but there is probably a shorter album with 6+ tracks out there given the large scale of microsound experiments out there... If you count singles, well... it gets short lol. Perhaps it's elliot bliss' A Collection of Little Ditties, at... well, I can't get a decent source, but significantly under a second. Also got the bandcamp link if you care.
It's some random microsound experiment, that's for certain, as microsound is the only genre that allows for songs under a second: it, by definition, becomes microsound.

longest ive heard here is EATEOT
