Happy early birthday Jacob. I’ve watched your videos for about a year now. I finally took the plunge. I left a job that was barely paying my family’s bills and headed to Odessa, Tx. to get on as a helper. I made sure our bills were paid up so we didn’t get in a bind. I start orientation on Tuesday and plan on practicing as much as my welder will allow. Thanks for all of your great information. God bless
Determination, determination, religious persistence, dogged persistence , never give up never give in. ? Quit is not in your vocabulary . Part of challenging my first and second year of my apprenticeship was to test weld on steel straps gas welding and brazing . Had no oxy-acet and talked a welder with rig into letting me use his equipment to practice gas welding . This was after new years in January( here -20f not uncommon) . He come out once and showed how it was done , and said I was nuts Its way to cold to be out here and left . At 19 I wanted to be a welder so bad I stood behind that welders rig for 2 weeks 8 hours a day till I thought I was able to pass that part of the test . In the end the stubborn , bone headed determination paid off . hahaha Thomas Edison had it right 10% inspiration 90% perspiration
That is the best advice you can give anyone. I put myself through welding school working nights running a wire gun at General Electric. But I want to be a rig welder so when I get home I practice pipe everyday. When I get in the house I look for tools and welders online. I just about got all my stuff together and I hope I can find a welder that needs a helper so I can learn more before I branch out as a welder. Your videos really help me out especially since I am the first generation of welder in my family and I don’t know too my welder. Thanks
The words you speak apply to anything you want to accomplish in this life. Some people tell you to work smarter and not harder. To me that means is to con somebody else to do work for you. There is no substitute for investing time in improving your skill/ self. Thank you for motivating us to be better. In the movie Top gun they talk about pilots decreasing skill of flying if they do not fly after 14 days. This is so true, for any thing you work at. You just get rusty as its said. Almost forgot happy B day.
Working smarter means to me learning your skill to the enth degree . it makes you more productive without busting your back . If someone has a better way I'm for learning it . Yes rust does set in fast
Very great advice to not only welding but life in general, thank you for reminding me what it’s all about, there comes a time when complacency sets in but this reminds me to never settle always be hungry for more. Happy early birthday! Hope you have a great one!
Anatolio You are 100% right. and I know exactly what you mean. I have those days that sometimes lead into a week and then I realize I have strayed off my goals and have to come back to being hungry and going after them.
Hello Jacob I hope you see this comment, i need big advice Im currently in 12th grade and Im graduating on 4 months and something I really want to do is pipeline welding, I have no experience in welding but Im willing to do anything to do it. Im a very humbled person I currently work in construction with my dad . Please give me some advice on how to start off
I’m a first year apprentice & just want to know what’s the best thing I can do to make most out of a welding career to make the most $ possible ? & just grow with the trade?
Quick question. How long does a helper, stay a helper. Does it depend on how fast that helper would like to become a welder, or is it depended on time in? I'm looking to get into pipe fitting. Also happy late bday brother, keep up the work
Michael that will depend on the helper in the non union side of things I was a helper for 1.5 Years Josh was a helper for 4 months it just depends on how driven you are.
Hey Jacob what about if you have your pressure tickets to pipeline an your already welding in a shop an your trying to make the leap to pipeline like yourself what would be some good steps to make .
hahahaha LOL yes yes your probably right. But everytime i get drug tested its a good reason to grab breakfast. Because I know I can pass any test they send me too. so bring on the drug tests and BREAKFAST!!!!!
Jovanny Garay Going to welding school gives you a advantage for sure. Check out south coast welding academy, and Alabama pipe welding school too. (Great programs), being a helper/apprentice somewhere is also a great way to get into this trade as well.
