I think what some people don't understand about Adele is that she is *meant* to be over the top. She's a chambermaid with big dreams and a naive (and somewhat childlike) demeanor, as can be seen PERFECTLY in the opening of the first act. And Gruberova plays her perfectly. Wonderfully over the top, silly, humourous, just generally having a good time. This whole production was legendary, with hilarious dialogue that was edited, added and revised by Schenk as well (who also directed it, and I recommend checking out his set for the finale of act 2, holy moly it's astounding).
Personally I feel like her acting and singing are fantastic! Odds are she is fluent and German and was serving the overall aims of the character instead of pantomiming every detail she was describing. She seems so native and natural in this role.
I think her acting is wonderful, especially considering that only now are we in a generation where we consider acting just as important and singing pretty. Also keep in mind: this song sums up the entire second act (and then some). What more would you have her do?
Oh, really? Would you care to disclose what you mean by totally wrong? She's supposed to be playing a chamber maid pretending to be an actress. Therefore her acting is perfectly on point because she's exaggerating shamelessly. And she's absolutely more than just OK. She truly is one of the best.

Unglaublich!!! So was hatte ich nie gesehen in diesem Aria!
She is absolutely brilliant in her interpretation of Strauss' Adele!
I think she OWNS the role! So natural! So as her singing of Spiel ich die unschuld vom Lande! Magically, like Adele.
Sie war und bleibt die beste!

nesta Opereta ( O Morcego ) de Strauss.
Effortless!

her acting in this song is totally wrong regarding the meaning of the lyrics. but with that voice and skill in singing, she's okay by me

I prefer Beate Ritter acting this...
She's acting to what the lyrics are but it's very mediocre.. Her diction is wonderful though. :)
