In the late 80s there was a 40km walking/running event called "The Passport to Yorkshire" starting near the res' and taking in some great countryside around Dodworth, Cawthorne, Hoylandswaine. I've based quite a few bike rides on that event.

Yes a right climb that Gordon. That bike is a touring bike genesis tour defer 30 not a bike for climbing. But it's exercise.
