As a future homeschool teacher I personally think the fun in school shouldn’t end at any point and the advantages of secondary education should be incorporated into primary education. Also I create my own workbook like study materials based on Evan Moor and Carson Dellosa. I also shorten my courses to make them easier

That is awesome! It is amazing how time flies. I can’t believe we’re officially out of Kindergarten! ☹️ it goes too fast!

Have you found a good way to do read alouds? I really want to focus on that this next school year with my 6th grader, but I'm not sure what to do. Should i just read the books we have and discuss them? Or get a curriculum for it? My voice struggles reading out loud, and i tend to make myself fall asleep (thanks high school English classss 😅). Also, how can i get him to tell me about the books more? He's a voracious reader, but struggles telling me about what he just read. He doesn't like writing much. Any tips for that? Should I not worry about it much?

I can’t say that I have found a “good way”. I simply read. I flip back and forth between requiring something from them during the read and also just having them around and listen. I find the better the book. The more naturally they listen and engage in conversation. So, I’m far from knowledgeable in best practices. We just hobble along.

I have a 2nd grader and a 7th grader. I read the same books aloud to both of them. Sometimes I will ask before reading what they remember from the last time we read and sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I’ll stop in the middle of the chapter and say something like I can’t believe that he said that and just see what they have to say. But most of the time I just snuggle up with them on the couch and don’t care about being the teacher I’m just being the mom that wants to love them and spend quality time with them. I’m going to say the only time that I would do a “curriculum” for a read aloud is if it is more in-depth like Animal Farm I am not good with allegory type writing and even with that it would be something that I would read myself and then read the book and maybe add some insight from the curriculum. I hope that helps
