I was taking violin lessons as a child and my teacher asked me to listen to Caballe so I could have an idea of how to make my instrument “sing”. Thank you, Montserrat Caballe for singing every phrase with such beauty and wrapping the notes in such a seamless pearly string of legato. You worked so hard to make every piece of music that you sang sound so exquisite and sublime. You are the musician that composers dream about. You made us all that much more appreciative of Verdi, Bellini, Donizetti, Strauss, and Mozart. You drew out every ounce of beauty and expressive potential in their music. You can leave this earth knowing that you made it a much much more beautiful and meaningful place. RIP

That is just how a woman sings. Not throaty or nasal (Callas), not trying to be louder than the orchestra (Sutherland), but making the listener want to focus on every note that was written by the composer. What comes out of her mouth is butter, sugar and a perpetual spiritual high. MC's gift is one of those that help us realize when God places his hand on the world and we feel the effects. Her every musical utterance astounds me! She is the hope of Heaven here on earth. VIVA!

Today my wife & I went to see the high definition telecast of Aida. My wife and I have a date night once a month. We've been married for 44 years. Enough of that the reason for this comment is that our beloved great soprano Monse fell asleep in death early this morning. I am not superstitious by any means. But I woke up at 2:30 a.m. because I could not sleep I have not slept well since our daughter died 9 years ago. So I decided to go to the family room and listen to UA-cam and to my surprise I saw a comment about La Superba passing away. The comment was 5 minutes old I kept reading a couple more comments and they're all about 5 to 10 minutes old. Very touching heartfelt comments from individuals that truly understood Opera and the caliber of singer that this great lady was. I really didn't expect much in regards to the Aida performance. What I really wanted to say was the performance was live and to not even mentioned La Superba passing Etc. Roberto Alanga was interviewed for the upcoming
performance of Samson and Delilah. He mentioned that she had passed away this morning and gave his condolences. To Monse,s family Etc. The host mezzo soprano who is doing Marnie new production hardly even acknowledge what Roberto said about the La Superba passing. After the first intermission She interviewed the director of the Metropolitan Opera and he did not say a single word about her passing I was so embarrassed for this country because these performances are telecast in 70 countries. It's no wonder that the Metropolitan Opera is failing at so many different levels. I read articles on the internet from England Germany France and of course Spain. And they were so ❤ felt that I got teary-eyed. They interviewed Anna Netrbetko. & the mezzo-soprano and neither one of them mentioned. Our great CABALLE passing away. I know this is a young country and lacks so much culture & common decency. But there is no excuse to be a Director of the largest Opera House in the world and not to mention one of the greatest Divas of the modern era. All we have left is leontyne price. Being the great lady that she is I'm sure she was upset and felt sad about a great Diva passing away in death. Shame shame on all of you for not acknowledging this great lady. A voice. That comes along once every 200 years. She had a very happy life & wonderful children and a very loving husband and grandchildren. She deserve so much more shame on you Metropolitan Opera administrators. Excuse my typos I use the microphone when I make a comment. Most of the people in the theater were elderly I think my wife and I were probably the youngest ones there and I mentioned to an elderly couple in front of us about her passing the man said I don't know who that is. I said do you know who leontyne Price's is? He said no I don't and his wife said who is she? I rest my case I can't continue with this travesty. Sincerely Arnold Bourbon Amaral. 🙏👱👩👏💛🌏🌎🌍🇮🇹🇪🇸🇫🇷🇺🇸🇯🇵🇨🇳🇩🇪🇬🇧🇷🇺

The Metropolitan Opera is failing miserably there in financial trouble Etc not too many people are happy about the administrative leadership Etc this is not Europe. My parents were European. This is a young country. We did not have hundreds of years a culture and art deeply appreciated by my people that live in Europe and somewhat take it for granted. Barbara Northwood hello Barbara I was listening to other music the last couple of days visiting with friends Etc I have many sons and daughters spiritual sons and daughters and granddaughters Etc. It keep in constant contact with us our life is really full. Cherish those moments with your grandchildren and your children cuz none of us are immune to a tragedy. As you well know being a mother you're such a beautiful sing I cannot explain it my wife could. She carried Danielle inside of her mothers and daughters have a special connection so different than my relationship with my daughter. They loved each other deeply 20 years ago we moved to a better area outside of Phoenix. My daughter and her husband lived 45 minutes away in America that doesn't seem far like in Europe. My son-in-law Was An Architect. Tall Blond very handsome unaware of his many talents grey blue eyes. He was in love with my daughter since he was 15 I will tell you this story. I describe my daughter to you everyone older boys wanted her she was not interested when she was in high school she graduated at 17 we had to move her up a grade because she was teaching the first graders how to read and write understand Barbara she was more like me and that respect she loves to read you said Dad I crave knowledge I yearn for it. My wife is the same way she reads book after book after book. She's a true treasure. Her name is Linda she is half Croatian Spanish Eastern European Western European British Isles Sephardic Jew. A better description would be she look like Hedy Lamarr when we met at the age of 22. So unaware of her beauty her beautiful smile your beautiful green green eyes. I have found my mate for life my best friend David would say you need to make your move everyone is after her. I said no I'll sit and observed. David Play The Cello wrote music very intelligent his mother had a PhD in education spoke 4 languages. Play the piano read books constantly just like David. She love me she was intrigued but my behavior one day I went to David's house to pick him up my nieces my mom wants to test you IQ Etc I responded I am no one's toy! This is I told you Mama they both laughed and laugh can you sing David said you need to hear him Mom. I replied I sing for my pleasure I'm not a performer would you sing for me please so what do you want to hear I said I'll sing something from a La Boheme she looked at me what Opera I said yeah I was 21 I just graduated from University was quite bored with life. I sang part of the duet O SUAVE FANCHULA. She said wow what a gift you have I wasn't impressed my father had an incredible voice and so did my mother she started to understand me and she told David you need to hold on to Arnold he's a dear dear friend. I loved her when she passed it was a sad day and a beautiful one she played the piano when we got married we bought her a corsage she was so happy and so was David he was in my wedding. That's enough for now I don't want to bore you nice to hear from you how many children do you have what are their names how old are they? Thank you Barbara you're a good friend my grandmother had many proverbs from Europe find a kindred spirit as a friend and you have a friend for life. I loved her deeply she passed when I was 17 I felt cheated my mom was the youngest of 10. They were married in 1906 and the territory I'll California. And a large Catholic mission and Los Angeles. Keep in touch Rock on music is such a beautiful gift from God take care my dear lady can I call you that now? I will share this with my wife thank you excuse my typos as you know I use the microphone good night Arnold Bourbon Amaral

This is indeed from 1968 - it is not the famous 'overnight sensation' @ Carnegie Hall in 1965. This is from a concert that Caballe, Corelli and bass Bonaldo Giaiotti shared. Caballe was in astonishing voice - her aria from Verdi's AROLDO as well as the Rondo from Rossini's LA DONNA DEL LAGO were other highlights of the evening. Truth to tell, her BORGIA was even greater in 1965 - well worth seeking out on UA-cam. You literally can hear the audience holding their breath when she starts slowly climbing to the first B-flat. The phrase 'you could hear a pin drop' comes to mind!

Nacidodelmar not necessarily. 30 years ago on the A and E network there was a documentary on Maria Callas. It was about 90 minutes long. And there was a small segment for a couple of reporters asked Maria if she had a successor Maria Paul's for a minute and she said I can only think of CABALLE. There were good friends and Maria not Davina help caballe on various occasions giving her advice what not to sing and what to sing one of them was do not sing Macbeth another one was nabucco. She encouraged her to do Norma and gave her excellent advice and told her you're doing things that are much more difficult than Norma. There's like a 90 second piece it follows where Caballe isn't costume for Norma and it's thanking Maria and she is teary-eyed. Because I obviously Maria has already passed away. After Caballe did her first couple of Norma's Maria sent her a pair of earrings to wear for each performance and she said I would always wear these when I sang Norma and caballe said she would never wear them because Maria was a true Norma. I really should convert that to DVD I have so many VHS Opera recordings Etc who's back in the 80s Bravo and A & E would broadcast I bought an opera week. I'm sorry I just went on and on but I was reminiscing about the time I saw that. Excuse my typos I use the microphone when I make a comment thank you for listening.ARNOLD BOURBON AMARAL your Opera loving friend.

it's all over UA-cam, actually 1968 is harder to find. You're correct this isn't 1965 which is much slower and much better sung.

tklogan t Thanks. I'll check that out. So many people sold or turned in their tickets because it wasn't Marilyn Horne; those still alive have probably been kicking themselves ever since.

@@judyjones2475 The more I listen to both of them the more I tend to agree with you. Callas had the most stunning voice, especially in her upper register. But Caballe' was more subtle and had greater flexibility. I hadn't been born yet to have heard Callas in person but to think I might have somehow heard Caballe' in person - it breaks my heart.
