Up next- I Got A Chip Implanted in a Biohacker's Garage: • I Got a Chip Implanted...
Neil Harbisson was born completely colorblind, but when doctors told him there weren’t any treatments available, he started thinking about another way he could “see” color.
So he worked to design an implant with a sensor that could pick up light and read wavelengths. A corresponding chip that’s implanted against his skull then translates the colors into vibrations.
Since his successful implant surgery in 2004, Neil has been able to “hear” colors and feel their vibrations. Each color Neil sees is perceived as a note that he hears.
But it hasn’t been easy. After losing his job and almost getting denied a passport, Neil now works to protect the rights of cyborg and change the public’s perception of them.

What cyborg implant would you want?
Bionic Arm!
Bionic cock with crazy sensation
@@cooliipie epic trollaladas!!
Pacemakers are the OG cyborg implant. It’s amazing how normal they have become!

He looks like a dude who hears color
...can’t argue with that?
Is he legally allowed to do the "I am not a robot" capchas?
Funny meme
Fetus In da womb da funny
Only half of one
forget about the antenna that haircut isn't working
slatt slatt lmao the bowl cut
I know this is the premise of your joke.... but you were just made aware of a cyborg who can Hear your Face and your takeaway is his hair style?
Lincoln Lopez nigga who cares
@@lincolnlopez7563yeah we're in the unfortunate Situation that we can see his face. Don't even need any upgrades
Youve just been VEctored!
Michael Scott on Halloween
Wouldn’t he just constantly be hearing sound like even when his eyes are closed?
Matthias Winterton interesting question! He actually does hear and feel color all the time, he simply got used to it.
According to him it took about 5 months for his brain to normalize it alongside his other senses.
Joseph Fruge he wouldn’t hear, theres not light reflecting on those objects
@DARPA no light = no sound.
This made me think of purposefully giving yourself synthasiza
synesthesia
Sounds like a constant headache
This guy looks like the villain from Despicable Me 2
I work with optical sensors and I'm wondering if has ever upgraded his antenna. I mean, if he still has his original sensor then he is way outdated. Using newer ones he could have better sensitivity to hue and shades. But then I wonder if changing his sensors would mess up his perception.
I may be wrong. But it looks like the end might be detachable to make hardware updates easier and less intrusive.
He upgraded to sense infrared and uv
He did a Ted talk and discussed that .
He has upraded it, I imagine each upgrade takes time to adapt to, but probably not a big deal
Why not just put in headphones for this?? Way to risky and fragile to be practical...
I heard and tasted color...but I was high on edibles😐ok, 5 minutes in and I am tripping...especially after the voices. This was similar to how I heard my daughter's voice!
Journey 2Asia haha, that’s one shortcut!
It was all fine until he said he identified as a cyborg
This
Freekin Awesome! But is he turning into a Dalek?!
👀👀👀
I've seen Neil referenced before in other programs and videos, but this is the first getting to hear him talk about his experience, his views, and what he does. This was really, really cool and inspiring. I thing Neil has some great lessons for all of us and there's a lot we can take away from that.

Every time he would bump something above or ahead of his head, it would crack it out of his skull, risking brain damage. Even if it was real, it's a nonsense gimmick for attention, or maybe to sell his work, but is totally unnecessary. A simple small earpiece can do the same thing... no need to bolt it into his skull. A hand-held device or phone app can also tell you the color of something. The dizzy flake just loves the attention by having something sticking out of his head. This is a flexible USB LED light. He attached it to a curved base that covers a bald spot on his head, glued in place with fake eyelash glue, or other body decoration glue. Think about it... shouldn't it have been mounted up front instead of in back? He's just covering his bald spot.
Actually true. Someone hits that thing and his brain is goo
Research neurology before commenting next time. You had some good points, but the last part just killed it for you 😂
@@Streloski How so? The part of the brain that processes vision isn't even back there, but his bald spot where it's easy to glue goofy objects to his head is there. This is a con-job. Hearing colors can be accomplished with a simple earpiece -- no need to install it on your head. This is faked for attention. Is that hair even real or a wig?
When it comes to electronic drugs, please, just say no.
"I agree", while using my phone for 10 hours a day
The entire antenna thing is fake and I can't believe how many people fall for it.
man when he mentioned that ppl can make night vision antennas or eyes i feel like we are about to see it in this decade or two
I think the bowl cut is the weirdest thing about this guy.
Looks like vector with an intenna
I mean he is foreign. He probably thinks it's super cool
I dont want to be a cyborg, with chips and electronics inside. He can be that, if he wants to. My body works fine without all that.
My grandfather has achromatopsia. Now they have those glasses.
This is superb. Brings to mind though the rift in the deaf community .....in so as some people who are hearing impaired are dead set againstinner ear implants because it will dissolve the Sign Language community. While the flip side is dead people getting it and loving it. I wonder if the same sort of rift may develop in this gentleman's community. Interesting to think about. But this is still a beautiful video. He is so genuine and well spoken. I would love to watch a sit down convo with him and Cecelia from Students wit Psychosis. That would be groundbreaking.
It would be cool if he can run the antenna from the head to the arm and ending at the finger so he can see by pointing at things.
i know him because he was mentioned in the visual novel 'butterfly soup' and i researched him after haha
This is giving me Zima Blue vibes
So each face would have a unique sound
This is amazing and mind blowing!
His bowl cut fits.
Looking like an angler fish to hear vibrations all day. That's a hard pass for me.
So what happens if he needs an mri ?
Well after playing cyberpunk, I will wait for all the patches before I turn myself into a cyborg.
He looks like the Reddit Snoo
In the future, we will all look like the Reddit Snoo
I didn't know biohackers was a thing and now I can't stop laughing.
Title reads like a video title for The Onion
His mom gave him a bowl cut for the tv
Please say this antenna is easily attached and detached via a magnet mechanism or something similar. As he already stated, some people think it's a camera and are quite hostile to it. I couldn't help wondering what happens if they try to physically pull it from his head, if it is attached to his skull. And does it have an off switch? Some other comment mentionned trying to sleep while hearing sounds with eyes closed, but I could imagine getting a headache, like when you listen through earphones for an hour or so.
neat tech but it kinda sounds like voluntary tinnitus just a bit worse because it is not one constant note that you can get used to but instead different notes all the time still amazing and i guess he could turn it off if it ever became a problem
does it hurt if he moves the antenna?
Aren't there glasses for achromatopsia? They don't work on this guy?
I’ll have to think more about this, but I can say I’m challenged, and to me that’s good.
Ok
Lasers, material science, and spectrums!
People who have heart devices pace makers and stuff they are cyborgs
Not really.
The difference is in enhancements.
The pacemakers allow you to function normally.
This gives him extra human abilities by extending his senses into ultraviolet and infra-red on top of the normal sense
A fundamental misunderstanding of what "color" is to think that you can hear it.
Bro he can make voices if he puts the colors In The right order
Please someone know what music starts at 0:21
This is incredible! I really wish this becomes more popular. Imagine how diverse the world would be. Like the cyberpunk characters
We'd love to see it 😍
Very amazing! He should sell his artwork and do that as a living instead of menial work however how does he wash his hair though ?
i would be willing to pay thousands for one of his vinyls than i care about nft "art"
I wonder how his antenna and ears work with artists who use both color and sounds? I make psychedelic videos with my music that use a lot of color with the sounds.
This is more art than science.
And more social experiment than life enhancing technology.
Seeing colors. Dude, you could have just taken LSD.
So, to remember colours, he has to have a perfect pitch?
When you take Cyberpunk 2077 cosplay to seriously
Still very cool
He could afford to get an elective surgery as a waiter? I call bullshit
Is it me or Stranger Things ost is playing in the backgound at the beginning?
Neil...i want to met You!!!
I hear colors without an antenna black is low e white is high e the colors in the rainbow are the other notes.they have feel as well.taste to
The hair cut fits him lmao
My question is how was he able to afford it
He said hes waited tables an delivered papers .
Moe Howard stylized hair-do ?
You shouldn't do this as a social experiment. Do this for yourself
And he had to have this "Dumb and Dumber" haircut of course!
Dips on the tird arm mod
Needs to be a DJ now!
but how does he shower
Working as a waiter? How did he afford the operations?
Is it insensitive to say that I want one
Gastas una pasta larga para conseguir un aparato que te permita percibir los colores, no obstante vistes de gris y negro.
(?)
;)
I like your bowl haircut dude!
This is BS. This dork just stuck an antenna to the back of his head with some double-sided tape, and ya'll feel for it.
when the technology to do surgery is more automated and affordable like 3D printers can be
maybe less licencing BS around medical care and more self options
but with risk being your own and costs being what ever the value would be to the patient.
free market Ripperdoc future
Uhm, two questions :who has done the surgery and who made the apparatus? 😐 and want about brain damage
No one knows who has done the surgery because if not the person who made his surgery will loose his medical license, i dont know what to answer to the second question
the guy was a waiter, I doubt it's even real
I would just get the glasses that let you see color instead of an antenna-
Those wouldn't work for him
Those glasses doesn't make you see colours. They allow you to separate colours from eachother so that they look a bit more different from each other.
And since he can't see colours at all, they wouldn't work for him
This dude should be afraid of lightnings
Do you think he showers?
I can too.... I just need some lsd then I become normal again 😅 Synesthesia is pretty darn cool.
A Nietzschean Nose.
I just eat shrooms or smoke salvia/dmt to get the same feelings more or less
How do we know that’s him and not an “avatar” of a controller? And how do we know this is even legitimate?
Wow!
He said in guture people will have something to control our body temps n we already do its called a thyroid but sone peopke like my gf who has thyroid cancer and her thyroid was removed an external thermastat would ve great cus when sges hot she turns air up n winter and we r all freezing lol or when its summer out she gets so hot that the house is like n ingloo lol
So why not wear enchroma-glasses?
Oh yeah well I can see colour beat that vector lookin ass
Tanto i colori non li vede.... li deve immaginare attraverso il suono.
Angler fish pretends to be eccentric human.
Wait ...
If u can transfer images in his brain then we can help blind people see!
With an advanced live video Bluetooth cast kinda system we can help blind people get an idea of what the world is like!!
HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!!

Me encantaría que percibiera el color de un mojón de perro.
(olería, vería y escucharía la mierda)

Kann du høre va jeg ser?

It’s totally possible to hear color for almost any person (talk to any one that has had too much THC)
If you ever wanna know how someone has never or barely smoked any weed in their life, just read this comment.
Weed isn’t acid and doesn’t have anywhere the same hallucinogenic effects. Just stop it.
@@illivanilli364 CBD (Weed) isn't the same as THC.
@@WINNER888_ Weed is not CBD. CBD and THC are both in Weed. Hemp is Weed with only a little/no THC. What people smoke usually is a high THC content.
@@thugpug4392 pretty much
but like synesthesia
As a person with synesthesia I will say. Absolutely like synesthesia ^^
Cyber-synesthesia sounds great :P
i wonder if he could just plug a wire into it and use a handheld device rather than using his head antenna directly. I also wonder if he needs that shitty haircut to feel like a cyborg
Cool
Glad you liked it!
This. Is. Epic
We also agree!
Oliver Tree was cool before this guy knew what cool was
OK, I have no problem with his antenna, but that haircut has got to go!
"..in order 2 live in this planet, we need 2 start changing & designing ourselves." Great message. Appreciate it & U. 1Love!!
Yeah idk how we managed to exist for centuries without a metal tube implanted onto our skulls. Cyborg artists are the new furries.
