Greg, lol, rest assured, messes are never a problem in my shop. I should have a shop with no horizontal surfaces, those are my downfall. Thanks for watching and for the great comment.
Hi Paul. Good to see you back in the shop and making videos once again. I hope all is well with you and your family. Now get back to that Hegner for the next video.
thanks Ron. Had a slight delay as life got in the way. Hopefully I can get back to making videos on a somewhat regular basis. I appreciate your taking the time to watch and comment.
This is not new for DM, l have had it in my shop for well over 10 years. It came with both sets of drill guides and all of the other pieces in the kit. A well engineered and manufactured tool with versitility beyond your imagination.
DuGDuG, I understand this is not a new offering but it wasn't included in the kit that I had. DowelMax was good enough to send it to me to review and make a video. This is a great addition to the system. Thanks for taking the time to watch and for your comment.
Thanks for this video using the DowelMax! I'm always looking for new ways to utilize the DowelMax. I would love to see some actual construction of some projects using your DowelMax.
Mike, stay tuned, I will be doing a video in the near future of a planter box build and will use the DowelMax for most of the construction. Thanks for you comment, it is always nice to know what the viewers would like to see. I appreciate your taking the time to watch and comment.
The DowelMax looks like a very capable jig Paul. I don't think they are available in my area but I enjoying seeing the conversion and the use of the jig. Well done sir. Glad to see you making videos again.
Kenny, the conversion kit is great. I am not sure but you could check Amazon. I have a link in the description of the video but I don't know if it will work where you are. You could also check their website, www.DowelMax.com. Thanks for the comment and for taking the time to watch.
I was so glad to see you had a video out and great to hear you've got more planned! The review was well done. Good to know there's an easy solution to using the DowelMax on thinner stock. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your future videos!!!
Lori, I was glad to see there was an easy solution to using the DowelMax on thinner stock. I make quite a few projects using 1/2" wood. Thanks for watching and for the nice comment.
I have the kits to use 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch dowels. I also have the angle bracket and maybe now I want to be able to use larger dowels for larger lumber. But I have done multiple rows of 3/8 inch dowels. Overall, I use dowelmax for good furniture and pocket screw joinery for shop items. Dowelmax was a great invention. Thank you for your videos!
Good to see you around again Sir. Have always loved dowels as a joinery, there strong and look damn cool (to me at least) on end joints. Got a question; Whats behind the fan? To big for a scrollsaw but has some wicked curves. Take care of all you all.
Dale, Thanks for the kind words. That item you saw in the background, behind the fan, was actually my entry to Whirlygig Wars a year ago. I keep forgetting to move it out of the shop. I could have cut it on the scrollsaw but didn't. Here is the link to the video to learn more about it... ua-cam.com/video/Rzw5r-tuJAs/v-deo.html Hope you enjoy it. I appreciate your taking the time to watch and comment.
Hey man I found the same issue... my solution was to sandwich a second 1/2" scrap board behind the work piece so there was enough thickness to tighten the clamps.
Will the 45 degree work on 1.5"? looked all over and could not find the thickes max. I have miter on a 2x4 and need to dowl the miter. Thanks in advance if you know.
motodv8, I would imagine it would depend on the location of the dowel. Seems like it should work however I have never tried it. Thanks for the question and for taking the time to watch my video.
Using the 1/4" guide with the 1/8" spacer and trying to cut the face side of a joint. The clamp hits the edge of the spacer. Have you encountered this issue? If so, do you have a solution or a workaround?
@fredfloyd6957 , I am having trouble visualizing what your problem is. Any chance you could send me a picture? My email is paulsmessyworkshop@gmail.com Hopefully I can help.
I ran into this as well. I’m going to email Dowelmax and find out what you’re supposed to do. It only happens on a face grain to end grain application.
I bought the 1/4" sleeves and kit a month or so ago and called DM. Their solution was to add a piece of 1/2" plywood as a spacer in back of the stock to be drilled so you can clamp against that and avoid the impact with the spacer that is placed on the front surface of the jig. This avoids the problem of the brass clamping screw from hitting the spacer. I would like a better solution like a brass clamp screw with a smaller head. @@TWC6724
That's a really cool gadget Paul. Could to see you back on the UA-cams. 👍🏻
Dave, thanks for the comment. Yes, that is really a nice addition to the Dowelmax.
Did not know Dowelmax had a 1/4" system. Thanks for demonstrating. I ordered mine today.
Mike, glad my video was a help. The quarter inch system works great for thinner wood. Thanks for the comment and taking time to watch.
So glad to see you back I am looking forward to more messes

Great to see you. BUt of course, I'm going to have to do a video now.
Chris, I hope so, we are both behind putting out content. Thanks for the comment.

Love my dowelmax! They have 1/2” bushings for larger stuff as well like doing beds or doors! 👍
TWC, I saw they have the 1/2" bushings now. They would be great for projects using construction grade lumber. Thanks for watching and the comment.

Buy it direct from DM on their website, save the middleman costs

L. Mallard. They also have a kit for 1/2 inch dowels. I have not given that a try as of yet.
Thanks for explaining the purpose of that 1/4" kit. I was wondering about that
Love my DowelMax!
Ty sir
Ron, glad the video helped. Thanks for watching.

How would you use the shim for face grain join? I have 6mm / 8mm dowelmax kit, and both shims obstruct the clamp from tightening onto the workpiece.
Henry, I don't totally understand your dilemma.
