Joan Cusack's delivery of the "all your children are missing" line cracks me up every time. Perfect comedic timing lol
I've seen this movie several times and this is the only time I realized that yeah, it's weird that the battle of the bands was being held during the daytime.
Love that all the kids in this actually played the instruments in the movie.
Stick it to the man! 🎸😂😎
-neosis
Trivia for School of Rock:
- Released in 2003; directed by Richard Linklater (same director of Dazed and Confused); written by Mike White (who also played Ned Schneebly).
- All the kids really did play their own instruments, and the backup singers are real vocalists; Richard Linklater didn't want to do the film otherwise.
- Miranda Cosgrove (Summer) was actually able to sing, and had to take a 45-minute lesson on how to sing poorly.
- School of Rock grossed $131 million on a $35 million budget, the highest for a music-related movie until 2015, when it was surpassed by Pitch Perfect 2.
- Mike White actually says he's not a big fan of classic rock, but he wrote it because he wanted a movie where Jack Black could perform his favorite music.
- The school portrayed is located at Main Hall of Wagner College in Staten Island, NY.
- In a case of life imitating art, Robert Tsai (who played Lawrence, the keyboardist) went to Richard Linklater during pre-production and asked his part to be re-cast, because he wasn't sure he could do the role well. Linklater kept him in because that's exactly what he wanted from the character.
- Jack Black received a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of Dewey, and he also won an MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance.
JB is top notch in School of Rock. You can tell he was having a lot of fun with the kids on set.
They got a great cast of precocious kids for him to work with. I especially like his banter with Billy 🤣🤣🤣 "Don't you be talking about my bow tie!"
If you want to hear the bass solo you should watch the reunion they did, they performed both songs and they give the bass its moment! So glad they did it before Kevin Clark passed away 😢
Yes those kids were actually playing and singing. They've had reunions a couple of time.
Rest in peace kevin clark, who played freddy! Your legacy lives on through this movie!
Kevin Clark, (Freddy the drummer), was killed on 27 May, 2021, when a car struck him while he was riding his bike in Chicago.
he doing rock and roll in heaven
29:55 this is one of my favorite parts of this great movie. The way she delivers this line shows Joan Cusack’s incredible talent 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼 😂🤣🤣
Love when the Principal stands in the corner.
the part where she admits to the parents she lost their kids kills me every time. subtle but hilarious acting.
It's a big WHAT??? moment.
I took at course in Rock History at the University of Texas at Austin while getting my Computer Science degree. It was great! And, yeah, we formed bands and had a show at the end. 😀
One of my favorite movies!!!❤
Rip Freddie
FYI, this movie was inspired by the real School of Rock, founded by Paul Green in Philadelphia in the 1990's. I knew a couple of the kids who attended and there was a documentary called Rock School that was made in 2005. There are now over 300 franchises all over the world.
Forgot how fun this movie is! 🤣
Good vibes movie for sure 🍿
I like when summers mom or dad says "why has my daughter become obsessed with David Geffen!?" 😂
Best end credits ever. And the Tenacious D movie has the best *opening* ever.
Fun Fact- the creepy band guy hitting on Joan Cusak after the concert went on the become his local district attorney after he left acting.
OMG, I love comments like this. Soo funny how our lives change with time.
he actor who played freddie jones, Kevin Clark, tragically died in a bicycle accident a few years ago.
the girl who played summer had to fake being a horrible singer becuase in fact she is a talented singer. She said that it was the hardest ting to do.
behind the scenes everyone said the atomsphere was great. Jack Black built a great reptoire with the kids. he has kept in touched with them. they have reunited on a few occasions. specifically the 10th anniversary of the film.
Another movie that you may be interested in seeing is called: The Rocker. It stars Rainn Wilson from The Office. a group of high schoolers who recruit an out of work drummer (who lso is the uncle of one of the teens).
One of my all time favorite movies!
Oh you’re going to love this!! So excited to see this reaction.
A favorite for sure! Seen it many times, including its original release in the theater. I have to watch every time someone reacts to it. Great fun! 😊🤘🏻
LOVE LOVE THIS MOVIE 🎶❤🎶JACK BLACK IS GREAT!!!, I’m always watching each year because I’m a Music Lover🎶🎤🎶💙 awesome talent. Thank you, LOVE YOUR REACTIONS TO THE MOVIES 🍿 I LOVE ❤️
Glad you enjoyed
I would love to take a class on rock and roll history. If Jack Black taught it, even better.
There's so much suspension of disbelief in this movie lol. But it's been one of my favorites since I was a kid. Glad you liked it!
Great movie! Perfect role for Jack Black! You have to watch "Nacho Libre " another fun Jack Black movie.
Jack's just got that infectious, manic energy!!
If you enjoyed Jack Black here, he did a highly underrated film with Tom Hanks' son Colin in Orange County, about a recent high school grad trying to get into university, and Jack plays a very similar kind of character. It's more than your typical 2000s teen movie. I think Harold Ramis from Ghostbusters is in it at some point, too.
Orange County is a really good movie. My roommate and I rented it one weekend, and got (in the best way) a movie we weren’t expecting. 🧡
My favorite childhood movie!!!
THere are actually school or after programs in most major cities based off this idea now and not only for kids but even grown ups who missed their calling. Literally a "band camp".
My favorite Jack Black is Jumanji. He's hilarious
He was a mucher, sure, but he found his way. 😊
Great "feel good" flick.
ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
awesome movie, every couple of years jack and the cast have a reunion and play together. There's a few on UA-cam.
This is my favourite movie from jack black. the only movie in history that Led Zeppelin allowed one of their songs in. Due to impassoined begging from Jack Black.
They got coffee alright, Irish coffee. A high IPA ale mixed with Bailey's lol. And Jack is wearing an Angus from AC/DC uniform.
Joan is da shit. 🎉
Hi James, as books were your main source of entertainment before your excellent video channel
Have you watched a movie adaptation of one of your favourite books? If so, which one?
I, personally, love Jack in Shallow Hal. It's controversial nowadays but it has SUCH a good message (if people actually look past the "fat" jokes). I'm an obese woman and it's an amazing woman - it needs to be seen! :) And, Joan Cusack (Cue-sack) was the voice of Jessie in Toy Story 2+ (I'm assuming you've seen the Toy Story movies... if not, SEE THEM!!!!)
Thank you! Shallow Hal is so underrated, people miss the actual message of the movie. I used to be 400lbs and that movie was one of the first times I felt like I might be able to find love one day.
Nice reaction 🖒🖒
Hope ya get to The Rocker 2008
Put it on a poll or on the list please and thank you. Again another great reaction!
How can you kick me out of what is miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnne?
I love Jack Black, but I've never seen this movie, just a few clips. Your reaction made me really enjoy the film and now I am looking forward to seeing the full movie. Thanks!!!
Jack Blacks room mate wrote the screenplay. Great movie!!
Lol this movie is a classic man. No matter how many times you watch it you smile and laugh. The soundtrack is great and JB is a legend.
What a sweet uplifting movie
Jack Black has a host of great performances
32:32. I thought that was Ashton Kutchner for a second.
Anyone think Dewey and Mullins got together after the movie?
I worked at a movie theatre when this movie was in theatres and proud to be one of the cleaning guys ready to clean the sticky stuff off the floor lol
Reading music and expressing those notes is truly fulfilling James 💯🎼
I always associate this movie with napoleon dynamite and nacho liner bc the same guy was involved in all of them . Love your reactions and I think you’d like Nacho Libre
Okay wait, mind totally blown here. I know pretty much nothing about rock music, but how on earth didn't I know that Jack Black was actually in a well- known rock band?? I've heard of Tenacious D but had no idea, wow.
Well, you got some great/interesting toons to listen to now.
If you want a little less manic Jack Black, check out The Big Year with Steve Martin and Owen Wilson. 🙂
if you havent seen NACHO LIBRE with Jack Black, U NEED 2!!!! its his best movie
You Rock James.. we love ya..
Sad note. Just a year or so ago not sure how long it actually had bein, the kid who played Freddie, the drummer was riding his bicycle and was struck by a vehicle and killed...R.I.P
Another great movie Jack Black is in is 'King Kong', my favorite of all the Kong movies.
I just tuned in. This is gunna be hilarious!
Sooo excited when I just now noticed this! I am immediately putting plans on hold to watch this NOW!
(still wondering what types of books you have read or prefer)
A few of these kids continued making music after this, some continued acting, sadly "Spazzy McGee" died in a car accident a couple years ago.
It's always a blast to see this movie!! 💝💞
vey funny movie great reaction James
So much fun watching YOU having so much fun!
Recommendation:
"The House with a Clock in Its Walls" (2018), starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Its not duck face its called "stank face" and its a big part of rock/punk/metal
maybe check out “High Fidelity”…Jack Black with Joan’s brother John Cusack, about music as well 👍
36:28 i was just about to comment that if you've seen Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny lol it's excellent 😁
15:21
Hey, James, here's a couple of things that might interest you:
The actor who played Freddy actually died a few years ago
The girl who played Marla, the white backup singer, and one of the guys who played one of the roadies actually became a couple in real-life
Love watching your reactions man!! Keep it up.
Appreciate it!!
man, I had such a crush on the principal, but then she gets with the handsome douchelooking one
This was a great movie.
James! You should watch High Fidelity with John and Joan Cusack and Jack Black! Great cast, great movie! To p Tier Jack Black.
Added
The white exhaust can be from worn piston rings too.
I love this movie!
Thanks!
No thank you for the additional support. I'm very thankful!
ALWAYS MAKE ME CRY. SO MUCH SOUL
stickitoodamaniosis XD
I just saw a 1968 SG for $25k...
A good film to watch with John cuzak is 1408, really good 👍
You are so vehement in your opposition to moochers.... _Well heres a story about Minnie the Moocher, she was a low-down hoochie-koocher_ ....
Also is the *Blues Brothers* on your to do list?
Spider went on to actually be a district attorney for the state of TX or something.
Lucas Babin (Spider) is the District Attorney of Tyler County, Texas.
You should check out the movie High Fidelity(2000) it was based off a book you may have read but I saw it and then read the book and love both
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
To this day, I'm baffled this film isn't rated PG, but it's bigger brother PG-13 rating. Yeah, there's a few edgy jokes, but nothing I haven't seen in a PG film before. The jokes are even allowed on TV *with* a PG rating listed. So much fun!
very good point, it should be PG
Make a video of Kari Jobe for me please
The title of the video it’s wrong. School OF Rock 😉😉
The original title was "the School of Rock" but they changed it. Yet, they kept in the old name in the opening title. So the film maker didn't even care too much about the title either.
@@danielberg7644 Have this on DVD and there’s an extra feature talking about that, haha. I love when they mention that the scene where they show the shirt design, had to be ‘photoshopped’ to take the _the_ out, since they had made them prior to the title change. 😂🤣
3:20 Sarah Silverman is one of my favorite people.
FYI in each video you say Awesome US Shows is linked below, but it is not. At least I don't see it.
Sorry about that, it should be the very first comment and part of the info.
Dewey telling the parents the truth about who he is lol. Talk about being 🤏🏻 this close to being taken out by mob justice lol.
Watch benchwarmers
First like let's goooo
Definitely "Nacho Libre" next!!!
One of the worst movies ever. Did he love Napoleon Dynamite ? Think about it. Suggest one of Jack’s good movies.
@@tempsitch5632 I see where you’re coming from… but even though the movies have the same director, they are different. James loves Jack Black, the goofy Jack Black. And it doesn’t get more goofy than Nacho. I stand by my recommendation ✌️
Keep in mind...the kids are underage, so they cannot win the money for the Battle of the Bands. But they won the crowd AND they won over their parentals...and that is way way more important and impactful. LOL
Of course they can win the money. Why would being “underage” be relevant ?
@@tempsitch5632 Most states have laws against minors winning cash prizes over a certain amount...at least not without an actual parent or guardian to sign a consent of some sort. But it is just a minor point, since the kids won the real prizes...and never needed to with the actual Battle of the Bands.😉
They could give the winnings to the school's music department if they wanted to. There were options. I think they didn't win because even Dewey needed to learn in that moment that it's not the winning, it's the playing what you love. And they took it in stride
@@hazzytastic If the school had signed off on the kids being in the show, then they school probably could have collected the winnings...if the parents also signed off on it.
And that is a perfectly sensible reason why they writers chose not to have the kids and Dewey win...works for me. 😎
School *OF* Rock
Hope this leads to watching Pick of Destiny!
You can still hear the bass solo if you watch the reunion (it's on youtube)...it's a short video, but definitely worth watching!😊
I'll check it out!
