  • Dr. Melike Lakadamyali gives an invited lecture at the 2024 Symposium on Physical Genomics at Northwestern University.
Dr. Lakadamyali obtained her BS in Physics in 2001 from the University of Texas, Austin and her PhD in Physics in 2006 from Harvard University. Dr. Lakadamyali started her independent group at ICFO-Institute of Photonic Sciences in Barcelona in 2010 and was awarded tenure in 2015. In 2017 she moved to the University of Pennsylvania´s Department of Physiology at the Perelman School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2020 and Full Professor in 2024.
The Lakadamyali group is pioneering major developments in the field of super-resolution microscopy. These methods have enabled novel insights into the transport of vesicles along their cytoskeletal tracks and the spatial organization of nucleosomes along the chromatin fiber. Importantly, her group has taken a highly quantitative biophysical approach in studying these biological processes, going beyond qualitative descriptions towards precise quantitative models.
Sponsored by the Center for Physical Genomics and Engineering at Northwestern University, the Cancer and Physical Sciences Program at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, and NIH Grants T32GM142604 and U54CA268084
