As an 85-year-old who has considered herself a Unitarian since I was 19, I am greatly moved by this video. “There will be better days” has lifted my spirits greatly.
I've watched and participated in a lot of virtual choir stuff in the last hundred days or so, and I LOVE the solo alto sample and the "canon" section that starts around 2:15. To me, this is VC making full use of the possibilities of this electronic recorded idiom and not just simulating things choirs do in normal circumstances. Excellent job!
A stunning editing achievement and a beautiful song. We had to close our storefront and move all of our services online due to COVID, our church campus is a ghost town while we all live stream instead and I've lost three beloved elders in the past three months - one just last night. I was holding it all together but then Stearns Matthews hit me with the amazing solo in this piece and now I have tears of sorrow, of the joy of human resilience, and of the sheer beauty of his voice running down my face. Thank you. This video is the heartfelt embrace my spirit needed today.
Excellent video and graphics work by Izzy. The song is lovely but the "broken record" in about the first half gets annoying pretty quickly and hurts the beautiful sound of the choir
There will be better days. Have faith in that idea. All movements begin with us. Our congregation has been working very hard for several months on becoming even more diverse and welcoming. We have chosen to hang a Black Lives Matter sign up for the first time. We have a team of volunteers learning about anti-racist and anti-oppression ideals and we have taken this information to the rest of our congregation. We are well past time in this, but being late to the party is still movement in the right direction. And how did this movement begin in our congregation? The challenge of one person (who also happens to be singing in this video). We took up that challenge and though I am sure we still have a ways to travel, we are making that journey and have been much more inclusive than ever before. There will be better days ahead for sure. And it begins with each of us.
I don’t disagree, but there was probably at least a little more diversity than can be noticed via small thumbnails and home lighting. I was in this choir, and wasn’t noticeable as a POC (Indigenous North American). I imagine there were at least *some* others. Still, not many, so your point is certainly valid.
@@katrubie3 It's not about being appreciated, but required for those, like my mom, who cannot watch this and understand what's being sung. I know you meant well, but it's not some extra thing. It should be the base minimum or we aren't UUs.
3 days after the 2024 US election and this song is once again a balm for my heart. Thank you for creating it.

I can't tell you how many times this song has brought me some much-needed comfort. Thank you.
a crescendo of hope, much needed “these days” as we all move forward to better days, indeed.

I have come back to this song several times since March. Today I needed the reminder again.
There will be better days.
Indeed Heather! There WILL be better days. Many better days! Blessed Be!
Loved this so much. Extremely well done. I don't think I'll ever get tired of re-watching it!

Wonderful! But as a UU, I couldn't help but notice the lack of diversity of color.

Yes, CC is always appreciated. Thank you for suggesting it!

It would have been terrific if it weren't for the grating sound of repeating "There will be better days."
