They just make fun of the actual tropes. From Volume 2 going forward, the story gets more serious and let's say Alya and Masachika reach an understanding of the relationship status.
Apparently they got different surnames due to their parents divorce, but they are totally 100% brother and sister. This evil sister just thought it was fun to hide their actual relationship in the school. I doubt this siter actually is into Masachika by this point, she's just playing a fake competitor to make Alya nervous by this point. This also doesn't help when they are in the same grade, because normally you would think a sibling would be a different age.
