I am 32 minutes in and I have chills, goosebumps and tears in my eyes. As someone that was told 'No' all through my Uni and high school, I understand what she's talking about. I also proved the Naysayers wrong by getting the highest CGPA in my year and getting the Vice chancellor's award. I must say, it's a great feeling. Now when I tell people in the UK about my CGPA they don't get it, they don't understand the opposition I had to face to even get it. I started to look at it the same way they look at it but hearing Vee talk about validation of the Bs in a class of Es just made gave me a boost. I need that book!

The two UA-camrs who helped me when I went back to do a Masters after a long break. I had to learn to learn again, and you both helped so much, as well as being adorable (yes, you, too, Ali!) And I started my channel because of Ali after a while, because I realised UA-cam is just such a fantastic thing. It definitely helped me pass my first two semesters.

Great conversation, loved watching you both.
By the way, watching this makes me think about my study/career years here in Switzerland.
She describes the situation the way it's often experienced through the eyes of a black student in an environment/institution where black people are not "expected".
So much more to say but she says it best and everyone out there looking to really understand, solve diversity problems anywhere in the world should watch this interview.
All those who are being held back by cultural barriers in any aspect of society should see this as an example of what is possible today with hard work and determination.

This is such a deeply inspirational story for all of us here in Africa. A lot of us who had professional parents share this story. Some of us, we never joined our parents in England but know the pain of not having any parents for our formative years. Yes, the trauma has turned us into activists and academic over achievers. We are incredibly proud of you Vee.
It’s actually quiet sad how when some of us make it to post grad as African scholars, we meet a whole bunch of challenges (my story is quiet insane on its own lol. No undergrad, to doing my Masters in Architecture at the best university on the continent). I am grateful to Vee for keeping me company through it all. May she continue to be blessed. 1:12:57 I'm actually going through this right now, Vee thank you so much for saying that, my friends, and cousin always think I'm wasting my time and life just because I have other goals other than medicine cause if I drop my "supposed goals" I might wasting my youth, just because I wanted to do something else other than medicine, It's not that I hate my degree but I gotta be honest if I have to choose I would love to have a job where I can stay away from caffeine, I can sleep at least 7-9 hours a day, I can have a weekend like it should be where I'm not getting constant anxious about calls coming, emails, or sudden schedule shift, which medicine unfortunately is that kind of place, sure it's a great place that you help other people but when you are at your lowest who's gonna help you even you have no idea is this heavy/worth enough to get help as it should or am I not trying enough to solve my own problem. It's toxic sometimes but that's life and I wanted to do more than just being a doctor, the stress sometimes is unbearable

I enjoyed this and love the story as and the Patricia Bright video which has really interesting conversations but this video is really long. I expected to watch the video like Patricia's on the Break Social which was a good length but Ididn't want to switch off and had me wanting to watch more videos. These video are for people who don't have anything to do or going no where. But for busy people like myself it's far too long and I lose interest after a hour. However, Vee has accomplished so much and I absolutely hear her on many different levels and it's something that I may consider from my Youth Education Project which she may be of some help. I love goals and goals to give me direction and a target to hit where a positive outcome arrives at what I wanted 😊

Talking about keeping young girls in school made me sad. When the 2004 tsunami hit they said a lot more men survived and they were worried about young girls being married off to these men because they had lost their wives, I decided to sponsor a young girl in Thailand to hopefully prevent that. After about 5 years of sponsoring her I got a phone call from world vision who I sponsored her through and they were all excited and said they had exciting news for me, and then they said she recently got married. I just started screaming and crying NO NO NO and they were confused on the other end of the phone and asked why I was so upset and I said because she’s a child! She only just turned 13 years old that month and they ended up telling me she got married a few months before, so she was married at 12! I had all these people from world vision ring be back and talk about how distressed I was for her and broken hearted and how sponsorship didn’t help these girls at all, all they could say was they couldn’t interfere with the culture aspects of those in other countries. The lesson I learnt was some places will never be good for young girls and it’s heart breaking, so we can only do our best to make sure it doesn’t happen closer to home.
