    You got to hand it to Genmitsu for really just keeping up with the in-home CNC machine game.

    Bravo on your height fix! Love it when people think outside the shipping box! Only thing I am wondering is why not mount the bed rails out further away from the center axis, for more support, and stiffness?

    Ever seen this one? Even after carefully calibrating the XYZ axes my 3018-PROVer and using the Z-probe on every setup, it consistently cuts between 2mm and 3mm deeper than what is called out (using an end mill with a 1/8" shank - the goal is to get a cut 1mm deep in 3mm stock but no luck). Everything else seems to be working accurately across multiple test files in VCarve Pro 10.5, UGS, and Candle but they all produce much deeper cuts than what I'm instructing the CNC make. Cheers

      I think I would start by manually jogging the machine z axis up and down by 1mm, 2mm, 10mm etc. and seeing if it actually moves that amount. Also see if you have any play in the z axis.

    • @cvonp
      @cvonp Рік тому

      @@techydiy Thanks. Yeah, I tried that and it's all tight and jogging against a digital depth gauge is 1:1. No idea why it overshoots by so much when doing an actual job =\

      @@techydiy Found it! There is an option in VTransfer for X-Carve -- I ignored it because I don't know what X-Carves is -- that allows you to specify the height of your Z-probe as well as a default move rate. Both values were too large and after adjusting them I'm getting the proper depth. Thanks again

    Z axis upgrade makes the machine less ridged, extrusions have a roundness to their faces and your holding them in place with 2 leaf springs on each side so that bad boy will rock like its on the sea. Is it enough to really matter? depends on application

    Just got 3018 PROVer and I need to mill out holes in 2.5mm anodized aluminium 19in rack front panels. From research I realised that the stock spindle is unlikely to be up to the job so ordered the 775M 20k RPM spindle too but am now thinking of sending it back as I don't think it will cope either. I will probably have to go for a 52mm spindle (300/400/500W) and so would want the aluminium Z-axis replacement featured (don't want the hassle of 3D printing my own and need the stiffness) but according to the link you provide (ie. The Sainsmart website) it doesn't ship to the UK. I realise Sainsmart sent yours specially for review but how do us "ordinary people" get one? I don't need the bigger working area or the leap in price of a bigger machine just to get a spindle that can cope with aluminium.

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  3 роки тому

      I guess it's out of stock, mine came some time ago. Have you looked on Amazon?.
      The stock spindle will cut aluminium, you just need to keep the depth of cut low (0.1mm). Probing a height map also helps.

      @@techydiy Hi and thanks for the quick reply. I looked all over for this part, including Amazon (where I ordered my 3018 PROVer and 775M) before I even saw your video but it was nowhere to be found except on the Sainsmart website. Amazon doesn't even list it as far as I can see. The website says it will ship to the USA and Canada so I doubt it is out of stock - it's just not available to ship to the UK or Europe. Do you have any contacts in Sainsmart who can explain this issue?

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  3 роки тому

      @@spacedock873 No I don't. I believe they operate seperate warehouses for the US, Canada, UK and Europe, each of which holds different stock levels They don't ship from a Central location and if you happen to live outside of those areas you can't buy the product (I have read several comments from Australians complaining). Whenever I have ordered something directly it has been delivered by Amazon, so they might be using their drop ship services. As far as I can see they are out of stock in the UK and European warehouses. My only suggestion is to email them and ask when it will be back in stock.

    QUESTION: Under the table - the Y-axis brass nut that has the spring behind it - this Y-axis brass nut is not screwed into the plastic housing - so, does the lead screw nut not get screwed to the housing? (not much to screw to).

    • @techydiy

      There is another nut embedded in the plastic housing. The loose nut and spring tensions the leadscrew against the fixed nut.

  • @Lidocain777
    @Lidocain777 Рік тому

    As a side not, you can get the very same parts to increase Y axis size by sourcing them. Waaaay cheaper !
    Same goes for spoilboards : both at the same time. Aluminum as a "base" that will be left untouched, and a MDF one that can be sacrificed.

    Thanks for sharing a tremendous instructional video. If I may ask, I need to mill at the center of 300mm x 370mm x 6mm acrylic sheets, (so the milling is not close to the edge of the sheet). If I bought a 3018 bundle which includes a 4030 extension would I be able to lay the larger sheet lengthwise on the 300mm x 320mm bed with an 25mm overhang on the front side and 25mm overhang on the back side to do the milling? Excellent video, I would like to make a modification, but I would like to know how far I could extend the x, y, and z axes. I would also like to know if the values that changed $131=315, if previously above it indicates $131=158 that means that the previous value was 158?

    Thank's for your video : i'll notice the link!
    I re-designed the electronic parts of the 3010 because i find it too weak and no electrical keys anywhere
    can bring several electric damages to the machine.
    I have 2 questions:
    1/ Is the 3040 stronger or better than the 3010?
    2/ And may we do the same thing with the 3010?
    Does anybody knows?
    Thank You!

      Sounds like the y axis is travelling in the wrong direction.
      If that is the case you need to change the $3 direction port invert mask setting in grbl.
      Grbl $3 direction port invert mask documentation is here:
      github.com/gnea/grbl/wiki/Grbl-v1.1-Configuration#3--direction-port-invert-mask
      From the console in your gcode sender (candle, ugs etc.)
      Type $$ - This will list the current grbl settings
      Look for the value of $3
      Then use the table just above $3 in the documentation to work out new value.
      To change the value
      Type $3=2 (or whatever value you determined) into the console.

    I am in the middle of doing this same upgrade but, I discovered that the Z axis limit switch is hard wired to the assembly with a tree prong plug on the control board end - on the assembly I am removing. But, the new assembly requires a wire with plugs on each end. Did you have that problem? If so, how did you fix it? I don't want to have to cut the wire from the old assembly and try to solder it to the new one. Thanks, I like the video.

    Hi,finally I have the need to use now the expansion ordered a while ago.
    Anyhow - I was thinking of replacing the Spindle as well.
    What I want to ask is: Can I use the spindle speed commands like I used in the original spindle? OR do I need to turn on the spindle with the potentiometer on the new external powersupply?
    I am using the MACH3 version for the 3014 Prover
    Thanks for your feedback!

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  2 роки тому +1

      It is possible to connect some spindle power supplies to the control pcb to allow speed control. It depends on where you get the spindle. The spindle power supply that I used is pretty difficult to connect due to high voltages. The Sainsmart one is probably easier. Someone made a video about it. Personally I don't think having program speed control is worth the effort with a 12k spindle.
