Ever seen this one? Even after carefully calibrating the XYZ axes my 3018-PROVer and using the Z-probe on every setup, it consistently cuts between 2mm and 3mm deeper than what is called out (using an end mill with a 1/8" shank - the goal is to get a cut 1mm deep in 3mm stock but no luck). Everything else seems to be working accurately across multiple test files in VCarve Pro 10.5, UGS, and Candle but they all produce much deeper cuts than what I'm instructing the CNC make. Cheers

Good job and great video, I think the Y axis will do the wobbling. if I have to extend the Y axis I will use the SBR16 or 12 linear guide or convert the rod from 12 mm to 16 mm.
Thank you for a great video!!! It helped me a lot!!! I just added the 3040 extension to my 3018 Prover. I have a question : How far must I move the gantry forward on the 2040 rails from the original 3018 original position? I installed it in the original 3018 position and it appears to be about 30mm too far back. I also plan to use the old 2040 rails to "lift" the Z axis higher up since I added the 3040 spoil board with the extra aluminum bed piece.

Hi, ima jeweller and wanting to be able to do some simple engraving on flat pendants etc with basic fonts. Would I be able to do this with this machine on gold and silver? Thanks
Hello! Can you help me, please? I got my machine. I wanted to use the Easel software but the spindle doesn't want to run? What is the problem? The jog is moving.
@@techydiy And another thing, please. I have just started to use my machine for a day. I will discover it but I don't understand one important thing. Instead of it come to a wrong place down towards me, like a reflection. What is the problem? Thank you for it.
Sounds like the y axis is travelling in the wrong direction. If that is the case you need to change the $3 direction port invert mask setting in grbl. Grbl $3 direction port invert mask documentation is here: github.com/gnea/grbl/wiki/Grbl-v1.1-Configuration#3--direction-port-invert-mask From the console in your gcode sender (candle, ugs etc.) Type $$ - This will list the current grbl settings Look for the value of $3 Then use the table just above $3 in the documentation to work out new value. To change the value Type $3=2 (or whatever value you determined) into the console.
I am in the middle of doing this same upgrade but, I discovered that the Z axis limit switch is hard wired to the assembly with a tree prong plug on the control board end - on the assembly I am removing. But, the new assembly requires a wire with plugs on each end. Did you have that problem? If so, how did you fix it? I don't want to have to cut the wire from the old assembly and try to solder it to the new one. Thanks, I like the video.
It needs to be positioned such that the the spindle is in the centre of the table travel. So move the table to the centre of its travel and then set the spindle into the centre of the table.
@@techydiy Thanks for the details. So, if we position the table in the center of frame and x axis in the middle, the spindle has to be at the center of the table. Did I get that right?

Hi,finally I have the need to use now the expansion ordered a while ago. Anyhow - I was thinking of replacing the Spindle as well. What I want to ask is: Can I use the spindle speed commands like I used in the original spindle? OR do I need to turn on the spindle with the potentiometer on the new external powersupply? I am using the MACH3 version for the 3014 Prover Thanks for your feedback!
It is possible to connect some spindle power supplies to the control pcb to allow speed control. It depends on where you get the spindle. The spindle power supply that I used is pretty difficult to connect due to high voltages. The Sainsmart one is probably easier. Someone made a video about it. Personally I don't think having program speed control is worth the effort with a 12k spindle.
You got to hand it to Genmitsu for really just keeping up with the in-home CNC machine game.

Position the spoilboard so that it is centralised and then position the spindle so that it is in the centre of the spoilboard.
Modern lathe
I hadn't thought of extending the Z axis clearance like that... damn I know what i need to do on mine next!
You can also replace it with 2080
@@techydiy do Genmitsu sell 2080 z axis extension kit? Or would we need to buy 2080, and then tap ends for screws to fit?
Buy the 2080. Tapping it by hand is easy.
⚙ je suis en train de modifier la mienne en 6060 j'ai hâte de la finir pour voir le résultat et la conclusion finale. Si la version 6060 me convient en terme mécanique je la passe à 1000x1000
😉👌
très bien
lets upgrade make it longer rod and same acme thread. it just flex more. even 12mm linear rail is better it flex only that much how much thing you skrew it flex lol if you skrew it on granite it wont flex lol.
noh lets just have 12mm round rod in middle it not flex? lol
a cheep cnc engraving machine is not a cnc milling machine, still to much vibration trying to cut aluminum, just not rigid enough
10:55 make bed flat. adjust axis. same as why measure 3d bed level if it allready build level (no spring)
Which nima17 2.5 N or 4 N type ??
Neither. Probably more like 0.5 N-m. Does anyone make 4N-m stepper motors?
@@techydiy oh sorry it was 2.5 Kg-cm
Any chance you could share your file for the dust collector? would it work in Easel?
Dust boot files www.techydiy.org/3018-prover-cnc-dust-boot/
It was in carbidecreate I think (which is easy to use and free)
Excellent video, I would like to make a modification, but I would like to know how far I could extend the x, y, and z axes. I would also like to know if the values that changed $131=315, if previously above it indicates $131=158 that means that the previous value was 158?
hello i have just carefully watch your video i am having some problem to find what distance from rear or front where to place my colum could you hel me my 3018 is a Vevor 3018 Thank you and congratulations for yor wonderful video
Put the spindle motor in the centre of the Y axis travel
Thank's for your video : i'll notice the link!
I re-designed the electronic parts of the 3010 because i find it too weak and no electrical keys anywhere
can bring several electric damages to the machine.
I have 2 questions:
1/ Is the 3040 stronger or better than the 3010?
2/ And may we do the same thing with the 3010?
Does anybody knows?
Thank You!
great Vid..Thanks..I run a Vogvigo Upgrade CNC 3018 Pro m/c...Are all 3018 pros the same mechanically.. and therefore I can use this Mod?Regards..
Hi, ima jeweller and wanting to be able to do some simple engraving on flat pendants etc with basic fonts. Would I be able to do this with this machine on gold and silver? Thanks
Yes should be fine
Wow, some serious upgrades!!! Not exactly cheap and cheerful by the end though - about another 250-300 over the base price?
Would it handle milling small 3 dimensional brass or aluminum parts in this setup?
Yes for occasional use, its not really designed for that.
Car t see how that’s Evan made any difference what so ever on bed size problem only actually games couple mill if any at all
If you saw it you would understand the difference.
where do you download the software to control the machine? I bought a used one and the guy never gave me software
docs.sainsmart.com/article/x6sr565m5g-3018-prover
Hello! Can you help me, please? I got my machine. I wanted to use the Easel software but the spindle doesn't want to run? What is the problem? The jog is moving.
In Easel,
Select Machine menu,
Advanced,
Set Spindle control to Automatic
@@techydiy perfect omg! Thanks! I tried many thing already. Thanks
@@techydiy
And another thing, please.
I have just started to use my machine for a day. I will discover it but I don't understand one important thing.
I design the form etc. I set up the zero from the corner, and the machine is starting to work not like on the animation for example like at the Christmas tree- up.
Instead of it come to a wrong place down towards me, like a reflection. What is the problem?
Thank you for it.
Sounds like the y axis is travelling in the wrong direction.
If that is the case you need to change the $3 direction port invert mask setting in grbl.
Grbl $3 direction port invert mask documentation is here:
github.com/gnea/grbl/wiki/Grbl-v1.1-Configuration#3--direction-port-invert-mask
From the console in your gcode sender (candle, ugs etc.)
Type $$ - This will list the current grbl settings
Look for the value of $3
Then use the table just above $3 in the documentation to work out new value.
To change the value
Type $3=2 (or whatever value you determined) into the console.
@@techydiy Perfect! Thank you, now is working correctly. I am so grateful.
من یکی میخوام ،😭
GOOD JOB !!! :)
👍+ SUB !!!

What was the distance that you moved the x gantry from the back after the upgrade ? please n thankyou
replace the fan on top of the spindle with a 3d printed one (files are easy to find for those) and get rid of a lot of noise.. (it's unbalanced)
Selamat pagi kawanku
I am in the middle of doing this same upgrade but, I discovered that the Z axis limit switch is hard wired to the assembly with a tree prong plug on the control board end - on the assembly I am removing. But, the new assembly requires a wire with plugs on each end. Did you have that problem? If so, how did you fix it? I don't want to have to cut the wire from the old assembly and try to solder it to the new one. Thanks, I like the video.
I didn't have any problems.
OK, Thanks@@techydiy

hy please let me know about it cnc router detail
thanks
with best regards
A very well put and very informative video. Thank you!!!
Thanks
Manual says mount the x axis assembly 46.5mm . do you know why? I saw that @6:55 you had this more than 46.5mm
좋은정보 감사합니다
What is met by " offline contolker"?
Offline controller - Used to send gcode to the machine instead of a pc or laptop. It has an SD card slot for the files.
Hello. really good video. I live in the uk and was just wondering how much this cost you. I think it would be a good upgrade for my 3018 prover. Cheers.
where did you get the 500wt spindle motor?
500W Spindle motor www.banggood.com/custlink/33vtKR7QJT
or 500W Spindle motor www.banggood.com/custlink/mv35KYwnHd
or Amazon 500W spindle motor amzn.to/3UPS9X2
All the same.
Super good 👍👍
Thanks
this is a very clear concise well laid out video, thank you i would like to add this extra area to my cnc 3018 howhere mine is the Banggood 3018 Mini Cnc Router. do you think all the pieces will still fit. Thanks again. sorry if this has been answered before but i couldn't find it.
Probably not. The machines are all different sizes
@@techydiy ah thats a shame it looks the ideal mod
Hi,finally I have the need to use now the expansion ordered a while ago.
Anyhow - I was thinking of replacing the Spindle as well.
What I want to ask is: Can I use the spindle speed commands like I used in the original spindle? OR do I need to turn on the spindle with the potentiometer on the new external powersupply?
I am using the MACH3 version for the 3014 Prover
Thanks for your feedback!
It is possible to connect some spindle power supplies to the control pcb to allow speed control. It depends on where you get the spindle. The spindle power supply that I used is pretty difficult to connect due to high voltages. The Sainsmart one is probably easier. Someone made a video about it. Personally I don't think having program speed control is worth the effort with a 12k spindle.
excellent and complete video tutorial , thank you Sir.
Very solid video..
Great idea on the z axis height increase. Thx
