This type of thing is V scary to me. As a plus size enby amab "lolita" (haven't been able to wear my pretty dresses out yet) I have to rely heavily on listed dress prices. And it's always so sad to see taobao dresses go up to an XXXL but only fitting an 80cm bust max... Luckily for me I've only ever purchased dresses from/by Violet Fane and can hard relate to the "It Fits!" revelation. Which is also impressive considering both my dresses are OPs.
From experience, the measurements on western indie brands are waaaay more reliable, I hope you find more dresses that work for you and make you feel beautiful!

In cases like this I stitch rip the back of the straps and then either tie them like a halter or sew them into a halter. This also serves to elongate the dress in the leg, as you aren’t relying on affixed straps any more ;)
Thanks to your LM link I just realized that I purchased my Eternal Rose Bouquet JSK from you a few months back 😂 The one thing I would have liked to have seen was a full view of the coord in a still frame and not just the panning up shot we got in the video, to get a clear picture of all the parts together! I can't wait to see the next video~ ❤

Oh man that dress is SUPER cute but gave me flashbacks to an Alice Girl jsk that I should've been able to fit in but ended up with more than two inches of gap at the top of the zipper even with the lacing in the back taken out. I was so upset because of how cute it was, though I'm tempted to get two at this point and then Frankenstein them together, it would definitely let me add pockets....
I'm personally very anti-"buy-two-to-combine" because it basically double rewards brands that don't see fit to include my size, but if it seems worth it to you and makes you happy I hope you find a way to make it work, even if it comes to that!
It's hard for me to choose between Lady Sloth and Mossbadger here, they both have the same theme and feel, but the construction looks different! When you have a large bust or are short waisted, it seems rockabilly-ish silhouettes fit better, so one would think Lady Sloth would be the better fit. Yet I always hear that princess seams fit well around larger busts, which the Mossbadger dress has, so maybe we should see if it holds up? Haha, I don't know whether to confirm my bias or test the rumors, so I'm voting for both. I hope everyone else makes up their mind better than me! Loved the video, too! Idol is not my thing, but the review was thorough and informed me really well. I appreciate you giving attention to all the layers and durability. If we're throwing down money for this fashion, it's good to know what we're getting out of it lol
i have this issue all the time!! when i got into lolita, it took me a while to realise that the bodice length (and overall length) of so many dresses doesn't work, and it's not usually shown in the measurements of pieces. i'm very picky about where i can get dresses from due to this, as even altering strap length doesn't always work/sometimes there's too much empty space above the bodice when you alter it so the waist sits under your bust. all of my dresses are from lady sloth or meta's plus size releases because of this (and meta's plus size releases are a life saver as a tall-lita too!!) i'd love to have some idol-lita pieces, but i'm a few inches shorter than you, and the length of them makes me nervous still :( + the issue of bodice length
Whenever I order anything, -from a reseller, lacemarket, Facebook, whatever - - I copy/paste all the images, text, size information, description etc. into a page in a OneNote section called 'Order History'. Then when the item finally arrives from China or wherever, I can compare it if I have any questions, or if an item may be missing, or if I don't know where the bow is supposed to go, or I'm wondering why on earth I ordered something that doesn't appear to fit me etc. It's also a useful resource for when I go to sell, because then I have the original measurements, what I paid for it, useful stock photos etc.
I have a spreadsheet I use for tracking purchases that includes relevant links, measurements info, price, dates, etc but this is next level, I think I gotta start including a section for logging descriptions too. Thanks for the great idea!

I usually watch on Roku, so I don't often comment, but hearing you mention Princess Jellyfish at the beginning (100% accurate-- I feel like Kuranosuke used materials like that often, and definitely in the anime has a wig in that exact color!!) made me grab my laptop to come write!!! I saw one LM sale for a jsk from the set in like 2017, and have seen just two Japanese auction site sales for it (one is live right now, but with no proof pictures and a huge bid amount, so iffy on legitimacy). I’m gonna try and keep my eyes out for any of the pieces, but if you ever do the video, this could be some neat information to include!

I saw that come out the package on screen and immediately thought that it would go on your boy but it will not suit you. You and I are both built to out run invading Vikings, swinging a sword, with 2 babies on out backs and still survive a famine in winter. This dress is for those fey little things who the Vikings would take prisoner. 🤣🥰
It would almost certainly fit you better than me, but the limiting factor seems to be the amount of upper-body you have. The dress is high-waisted, and the non-adjustable straps mean that the amount of bust you are working with and how long your torso is will matter more for proportions than straight-up height. If it helps at all, my bra size is US 38DD, so if you have a smaller bust AND are shorter than me there's a good chance the fit will work for you.
I think I know which reseller you mean and I’ve had similar issues with them. I ordered multiple things from them which then were suddenly no longer available and I basically had to harass them to get my refunds. Pretty sure they still owe me 20$ for a kawaii skirt I never received. Ugh, never again! Finally figured out how to use taobao shopping services tho, so that’s good! 😅

Urgh. That's rough. I've had really bad experiences with custom sizes out of China too, with the exception of Fan plus Friend and SouffleSong, which have been pretty lucky for me so far. At least western indie brands are usually better about accommodating bigger busts!
I was totally expecting this not to fit correctly, because a lot of the idol lolita stuff is really meant for younger, short, smaller framed people. That's why it's usually less expensive, as well: teens can't really afford a lot of brand. Because it's meant for that niche audience, I don't really foresee idol lolita as it's currently sold getting a big international foothold, unless indie brands tackle it in a specifically size-inclusive way.
Yeah, idol lolita seems to be only really popular in Japan and China where the standard body size is also smaller than in the US, so it wasn't a surprise to me either. As I was editing I realized how unsure I sounded in my unboxing preamble, I think I didn't have much hope for it. But the set is VERY much a combination of many of my favorite things, so I still feel like it was worth a try and I'm happy to have learned from the experience. Ahhhhh to have an indie brand tackle idol lolita... I can dream!
