OK, I love your videos but more about this one. Yes, the original CSY with the Irwin and Morgans were solid, easy to sail and a great concept. After they went belly-up they reformed using Gulfstar/Lazarra. I bought one (50'CSY) and it was fast but not well built. My CSY was charted in St. Vincent. They charged over the cost of the boat to replace lines, anchors, oil change etc. When I took delivery of my "SAIL LA VIE" 50' CSY Gulfstar it had been underwater, the original oil filter was still in place, sails torn, no anchor, and completely unseaworthy. Also the boat did not generate income because it was "seldom" charted but when I anonymously called to charter there was no availability to charter.
So I paid for a new boat, did not get any offset income and received a trashed out boat that was abused and had been sunk. Also there was to be a tax write off but the IRS changed their rules retroactively. So, maybe a chapter two on your video.
Wow
We have owned a Cherubini 33 endeavor 35.5 gemini 105 Bayfield 32 and recently purchased CSY 33 and could not be happier . Not the fastest boat we’ve owned but very solid very comfortable plenty of space for the two of us great sailboat!!
Discovered the brand last week. Very impressive indeed. I would count myself Lucky if I owned one.
Yea! A boat from Tampa, Florida.
man.... if I can ever get the situation right to buy a cruising boat you get all the credit for educating me on what boat im going to buy.
I remember CSY from back in the 80s. My parents' business was involved in promoting the charters and they sailed with them. I had one of their promotional videos until a few years ago.
I encourage you to keep doing what you are doing. I know first hand how tough it can be to fallow your dreams. I wish you well
Black max
Very good episode.I always learn something new watching.
The CSY 41 was an Alan Gurney design (ever hear of Windward Passage?). CSY also had 30' S&S/Chris Craft, a 34' Halsey Herreshoff/Bristol that was a little rocket ship and a shoal draft center boarder that was a strengthened Pearson 390. The 44' was originally designed by Ted Irwin, but was redone by Peter Schmidt who also did the walk-thru and pilothouse ketch designs, as well as the 33'' and 37' boats. There was also a 30' trawler yacht made by Willard. Fun fact: despite using the same powerplant as the Pearson 390, they used less fuel in a typical charter.
My folks owned a 34' and 44' walkover.
Great video. I've seen, the walk over only. A ketch with two headsails. Big sail plan. Neat with two comapnionway, but the walk over. Great boat, unfortunately beyond my pay scale.
Wow she is so Precious!
Nice CSY like these boats. Dude I love you channel my FAVORITE sailing UA-camr. I wanna sign up to crew on your next trip. I'm in the market for a boat at the moment. Like to see you do a breakdown on islander 32 and the ever so beautiful Alberg 35 by Pearson.
Ohhh islander!!!! Love it.
Thanks for reviewing CSY . Thought you might find them interesting. They also made a 33 and a 37, they were designed after commodore Monroe’s boats the Alice and Carib II. Very roomy with the flush decks. Moneroe’s boats were about 63’ and were center board boats. They drew 4’ board up and 12’ board down. They were also solid mast gaff rigged ketches. He designed them for cruising in the keys.
Excellent overview and history. You have covered many brands wonderfully, I am hoping you get to the Taiwanese boats, like Formosa, Hudson etc. I admit they are my favorite design and a timeless classic.
That’d be an interesting history lesson. I’m personally hoping he does one of these about Bayfield sailboats.
@@RepellentJeff Bayfield 32 what a sexy boat cheap as well compared to other cruisers. I would also like to see that breakdown as well.
Have you been watching Parlay Revival repairing a Lagoon 450 with all substandard construction their finding. That would be a interesting topic that more owners are finding their lagoons are falling apart. even before there put in the water. we hope all is well and you get back on the water.
Love that you have your daughter involved. Do you take her sailing with you?
Allll the time!
Interesting how is lady k doing?
Good. Been sailing and doing repairs most of the time.
Interesting history.
Another very informative episode!! Well done!!
Thinking going bigger and changing my IP32 up to either a CSY 44 or a Whitby 42 both Centre cockpit ketch. Any comment on these choices?
I wish you would make a video dealing with what size of boat is best for cruising. I am looking in the 35' - 40' range. I currently own a 26' trailerable that is too small for even one person long term. However one doesn't want to go too big in case you can't get crew to move the boat and of course docking and maintenance cost go way up on 40' plus boats.
In my opinion, you're already looking in the proper size range. I'm a full-time liveaboard on a 37' monohull and it's just right for me as a solo.
@@tomd.3082 How tall are you?
@@Waldopepper1962 5' 7"
Happy to do it. You're in a unique position because you have the questions. If you want to send me questions I'll make a video to answer them.
"Really can't be understated",,,,or did you mean overstated? I'm confused.
Sounds like Kraken Yachts
Cool story bro 👍🇨🇦
Should look at rafiki 35 and 37 for next video :-)
Hi, off topic question here, I hope you don't mind. I live in Montreal and I'm thinking about buying a liveaboard. That implys I'll be sailling south on nov 1rst-ish and comming back around may 1rst..... I know about the lake champlain locks&channels system but with a big sailboat you have to de-mast and it sounds teadious and costly.... But nobody talks about sailing down the St-Lawrence see-way and taking the long route around the Gaspésie peninsula. Real long way but if you're retired so what ? Is the weather so horrible in november ?
Never done it. Yet. Hurricane season on the Atlantic ends November 1 so I'd think that's the right time. Earlier in fact.
Fresh haircut! :)
Hello, I am looking to buy a CSY33. It is in good condition with new electronics and navigation. Can i get in touch with you.
A heart is a lame response. CSY was a great company when they produced the Irwins, Morgans etc but they changed...and their Gulfstar CSY was crap and they cheated their supporters that had a dream. We paid for the full price...never made any income...and got a trashed boat in return. That's the truth. I love your videos but...CSY sucks.
