    Hi Stephen
    The scrambling massive red aloe leaning on that garage I've never seen an aloe behave like that how amazing ! I've got 2 in pots just the plain Green thin ones but that red one on the ground does look Sci Fi for sure
    Thanks for sharing guys very unique video
    C ur video tomorrow !
    Happy gardening 👍🌸🐝

    I considered not watching this video because I have a general dislike of aloes, they grow like weeds in my area (some of them very literally so), and despite being as common as sand everyone raves about them like they're some sort of miracle plant... but I decided to watch anyway and I must say gentlemen, you definitely know how to find something interesting. A.vanbelenii won me over, made me change my mind and accept that there is at least one aloe out there that I can appreciate.

    You will have to go back to this garden, I saw a few euphorbias that could have used your attention. I'd love to see another video from Sue's garden, or better yet to visit in person

    The aloe that you make us discover are magnificent, I particularly like Aloe rubroviolacea. Unfortunately here in France in this style I have to make do with Aloe striadula; too cold in winter (-7°C) and especially very humid for your somewhat chilly wonders. I console myself by discovering your "super" videos. Thank you.

      Perhaps a large greenhouse would fit the bill! Only our financial position can stop us!! Glad you like our videos and hope we continue to entertain. Regards Stephen

      Aloe aristata (now Aristaloe) should survive for you - if you shelter it with a piece of glass to keep it dry in winter!

      @@Salmagundiii Hi thank you for the good tip. I didnt know this Aloe aristata. I'll try it next year, sheltered and on a little stonewall with zauschneria californica.
      @thehorti-culturalists As you wrote my financial position and my tiny garden stops any project of large greenhouse so I hope a piece of glass will make the job with my Aloe and... my bank. Regards Jean Lou

    Aloe, aloe! 😂 I'm so glad he said it. I have a gloriously glaucus and knobbly aloe parvula that I absolutely adore. I hope I can see its flower someday.

    Love my aloes! They take turns blooming, starting with the aloe Veras, then the brevifolia, then the hardy aloes. The hummingbirds adore them.

    Love, love, love Aloe Vanbalenii! I want one. My Aloe Aloe hybrids are excelling themselves in my garden yet again. Tree aloe Ivory Tower, Moonglow, Bush Baby, & Echidna.

    If that’s how tall my tree aloe Ivory Tower is going to get I’m a little alarmed now! I planted it in a border outside our front fence & I’m thinking I’m going to need to strap it to the fence as it gets bigger.

      remember the sky is free so the height that something grows is usually less important than its spread. Regards Stephen

    Stephen and Matthew, I hope you can soon visit Tony Avent at Plant Delights Nursery at Juniper Level Botanic Garden in Raleigh, North Carolina. Summer Rayne Oakes did a wonderful tour with Tony recently. Her videos with Tony of the nursery is on Plant One On Me and is titled Plant Collector's Nursery Paradise. And a second tour with Tony of the botanic garden on Flock Finger Lakes is titled Tour 28-Acre Plant Collector's Botanic Garden.

    Hello Mr. Stephen Ryan, I managed to acquire a Camellia amplexicaulis, after having discovered it thanks to you. Unfortunately it does not grow and declines.j lives in the north of Portugal in zone 9 b 20 km from the sea; My land is acidic and the Mediterranean climate is hot and dry in summer and a lot of rain in winter.can you advise me.thank you in advance.ps:i love your show.

    • @thehorti-culturalists
      @thehorti-culturalists  Місяць тому

      The heat and dry is likely the problem. I would keep it in full shade and in a pool which I would keep quite damp all summer. Best of luck . Regards Stephen

    Are kniphofia (red hot poker) plants related to the aloe family? The aloes in this video look to be dead ringers for kniphofia.

    • @thehorti-culturalists
      @thehorti-culturalists  11 днів тому

      They are both in the family Asphodelaceae so yes they are related. Regards Stephen

  • @WoodlandT
    @WoodlandT Місяць тому +1

    Many of these look incredibly similar to Kniphofia northiae, which I recently acquired and is hardy in my western Washington state zone 8 garden. They’re amazingly similar. If they aren’t related, it is one of the most stunning examples of convergent evolution I’ve seen. It never occurred to me that an aloe could possibly be hardy here. But now I’m wondering, are there any aloe that can survive an occasional dip to -10C?

    • @thehorti-culturalists
      @thehorti-culturalists  Місяць тому

      I'm sure there are some that would survive but someone with more local knowledge would be a help to you I think. Regards Stephen

    I'm typing within two and a half minutes into the video and I already want to take a couple of screen shots. Is that allowed? This is going to be good. Back to the show.

      Not counting the blue foliage plants the one to the right of you both when standing in front of the first one you showed us with the yellowgreen chartreuse coloured flowers is very beautiful and of course the flower colour of the ladies favourite was quite interesting too. Thank you so very much for sharing another fabolous video with your viewers. I did notice Matthew used both the word's' designed' & 'evolved' when talking about the same plant. Trust me, everything was designed.
