@Jared Lind So? They are not an equipment company, you don't need to buy their bench and they don't tell you you have to buy it for their program. Their main product is 30$ (the book). If you want something from BBM, you need 50$ for 1 template, and to continue, the dollars need to keep coming, you can not even post your workout sessions because BBM doesn't want others too figure the program out.
Both may want to make some cash, nothing wrong with that. But let's find better insults for SS, for example "fats", "dogmatic boomers", or something like that. Because "greedy" will be hypocritical.

Except the vast majority of people at the beginning of their lifting careers are retarded and need this level of regimentation, myself included. Mark didn't develop Starting Strength because it's "scientifically" the best way for a novice to train, he developed it after years of training novices and discovering that giving them an overly complicated workout and allowing for too much freedom is in most cases a terrible idea. SS is a great program to get novices strong very quickly while not distracting them with a ton of unnecessary bullshit, especially since most people interested in getting stronger aren't looking to be competitive powerlifters. Until you've actually coached novices for years you can't fully appreciate something like SS.
A good novice coach doesn't need their lifters going down the rabbit hole and switching 100 times between low bar and high bar, based on how they feel that particularly day. They just need consistency.
Being dogmatic for novices and early intermediates is better than being nihilistic. As you get more advanced, however, dogmatism definitely is bad as their are countless different ways for someone to get stronger and every person is different.

Well, In my opinion the rant is missing the point. The program is called "Starting Strength" and not "Sophisticated training tools for advanced lifters and adaption to specific individual demands".
In my opinion the simple approach is doing a pretty good job for any novice - as a general rule.
If I had the book when I started training 30 years ago, I would have made a lot better results compared to my results I got, based on reading the Flex and other magazines...

      @BlueJupiterJazz well maybe.
And maybe sets of 6 are better than 5s or more pulling is better, or some direct core work is better or...
The point is: You do not much wrong as a beginner following the program for a year or two.
Keeping it simple and reducing the amount of exercises to learn a good technique, fast is not a bad idea for a beginner - imho.
Better than my start with 5 day bro split from a Flex magazine with 20 sets for biceps for sure;)

1)Leverage Starting Strength in order to develop your UA-cam channel and build your reputation.
    2) Advance past the Novice Linear Progression and realize Starting Strength might not help address your specific goals. Strongman, for example.
    3) Let minor differences in opinion fester and develop an unnecessary rift in the Strength community.
    4) Publicly denounce Starting Strength
People can certainly disagree on issues like diet and conditioning, but the NLP is still the best program for beginners in the strength game. We are all out here trying to get strong. Yeah he's very dogmatic about other things like bar positioning on the squat but he's mostly coming from the position of a general strength coach and his advice is pretty spot on for the average person just trying to get strong and not get lost in a sea of bullshit. The fitness industry is and always has been full of sharks so I appreciate there being someone like Mark to keep the parameters low for the newbies.

While it's still based on the squat, deadlift, OHP and bench press, it's also full of all the good things Rip hates for beginners: varying rep ranges, RPE, cardio, and accessories.
The stuff I learned from SS was useful (how to do the four lifts, why they're important), but I had to do my own research to learn what's bullshit (that I can modify my program to keep making progress as a beginner without getting fat and giving up the my cardio fitness). It’s a strength program. If you’re adding 5 lb you don’t need to add more volume to be able to continue adding 5 lb.
If more volume makes you happy that’s great.
But the metric is not happiness the metric is strength.
Eventually you’ll need to add more volume.
But I’ll bet 3x5 deadlifts along with 3x5 squats from the beginning is not going to help put weight on the bar. A: because that’s happening with 1x5, and B: it’s going to tax your recovery unnecessarily.

BTW I am still waiting for both sides to have a programming debate as it was foreshadowed in SS forums right before the split (although it is quite obvious who would win it anyways).
