@@nahor88 I always joke that he probably got a lot of heat for his character in American History X so he took this role to balance it out and say "See? I'm cool guys!"
0:36 you can tell Denzel almost cracked a smile from the way Donald had his hand up and was smiling had to be a few takes done. He must have done that to mess with him 😂
I swear right before Denzel (Coach) talks to Donald (Petey) it looks like he is holding back a smile or laugh. Petey looks so incredibly goofy with that smile lol!
The raised fist is a symbol of solidarity dating back to the industrial revolution. The Black Panthers adopted it to promote solidarity against racial divide. In this scene though, Petey's just a dumbass.
I wish! My head coach was an asshole who couldn't remember my name and ended up getting investigated by the FBI for laundering money from the booster club
“All right, listen up. I’m Coach Boone. I’m gonna tell you all about how much... ‘fun’ you’re gonna have this season. We leave for camp, Gettysburg College, August 15th, 7:29 a.m. If you report at 7:30, you will not be playing football this season, you will be watching. You will wear a jacket, shirt, and tie. If you don’t have one, buy one. Can’t afford, then borrow one from your old man. If you don’t have an old man, then find a drunk, trade him for his. ‘Cause I can guarantee you there isn’t a bum on the street that looks as raggedy and ridiculous as what I’m looking at right now. This is no democracy. It is a dictatorship. I am the law. If you survive camp, you will be on the team. If you survive. Check ‘em in, Coach.”
Ended up ADRing this scene for a friends project. What is hilarious is I wasn’t a theater major I was geology and I would do ARD for fun because the digital media people had trouble getting theater majors to do it because they don’t consider it acting. They were trying to find someone to do Denzel and the person they had could not capture his inflection. So my friend looks at me, he wasn’t sure what to do and asks me “can you give it a try.” I go in. I didn’t quite capture his voice but I nailed the timing, inflection, and intensity. I also got the longest line in one take. I always wanted to do voice over but I never felt like I really deserved to do it so I would do voice over and ADR for free as a hobby. Enjoyed the crap out of it. Wish I still do it but I no longer have access to a studio.
I've never noticed until now watching this clip that Ryan Gosling was even in this movie, but then again he wasn't that famous back then when I watched it the first time, so it's normal I didn't noticed him one bit, having a small role in it. He certainly came a long way since this movie.
A lot of this I've heard in color guard practice 😂 our techs always say "there's no laughing in color guard, unless it's nervous laughter." Or "there's no fun in color guard" and they're definitely joking but still
0:40 to 1:19 makes me laugh. Part of me wonders if Denzel and Donald were able to keep a straight face. P.S Petey got off easy Three words: Martin and Lewis (Those who have seen the movie will get that reference)

This is the most Denzeliest Denzel scene Denzel has ever Denzeled.
And Denzel Denzeled this role as a Denzel role......wait let me get a suit
And that’s the Denzel and nothing but the Denzel
Petey's lucky that he did slam the lid of a grand piano on his head

I say about the same. Just different sports.💯💯
I would like to believe coach carter took some inspiration from this film.
