Thank you for making all these videos! As a total n00b, I'm basically using them as a buying guide to see what ships I wanna get my hands on first. This is truly a public service you're doing with all these breakdowns! Thank you! Thank you!
The Cardboard Dungeon Hey, these are probably the most thorough breakdown videos of what each ship comes with, and a general sense of its capabilities, without going on for hours about how it affects strategy, lol. Not that there's anything wrong with those videos, but yours are on-point, very clear and consise. And you clearly have a vast understanding of the game mechanics. Keep 'em coming!
Love your videos. You clearly prepare ahead of time (unlike some channels who kinda 'wing-it') and always have good insight to the ships. Can't wait for a new video.
+Tim Land - Thank you. I do try to prepare for most videos by scripting them out and then recording my dialogue by reciting the script, it helps to keep me from going off on tangents or forgetting important information.
Zertik Strom + Captain Oicunn. As I understand Strom's ability, it affects all enemies at range 1 performing an attack. I love the Raider as well, great model and fun to see on the table. The upgrades to the advanced also make it fun - especially against B-Wings (1 evade die). Plus, as not mentioned here, you also get Emperor Palpatine.
Even before the video is complete, I'm already looking for TIE/x1 plus ADV.targeting Computer in the individual card market (my guess is they are going to be expensive ). Thank you for this tip.
+faxanadu13 - It's not hard at all, and if you're playing casual games there's no issue. In organized play tournaments, though, you're required to have an actual copy of every card in your list. Proxies or photocopies can be disqualified.
Does Zertik Strom's pilot ability not work against all enemy ships in range 1 who are firing (not specifically at him)? A bit like Howlrunner but anti shooting..
+phatpete123 - It does work that way, but it seems like you'd need to get him into range 1 of an enemy ship that's also at range 1 of another of your ships for his ability to do any good. It seems like a really heavily situational ability to be used as anything other than protecting himself from range 1 attacks. Seems to me like he's meant to fly into range 1 of turret ships and deny them their attack bonus while he gets to roll 3 attack dice plus the bonus crit from Adv. Targeting Computer.
Right? The Raider is hands down the best thing to happen to Imperial standard format since Soontir Fel and Push the Limit. Palpatine AND cards that make TIE Advanced and Vader competitive? Yes please.
I've been flying Vader with Predator, title, Advanced Targeting and Engine Upgrade along with one other Imperial ace (either standard Soontir or Inquisitor) and a Delta Squadron TIE Defender. Of course, that was pre-Imperial Veterans. Now my go-to Imperial lists are much more Defender heavy :)
+GamePlayer553 - You can't go wrong with the TIE Interceptor. The Decimator is also a great ship for the Imperials. I'd start there and then see what kind of squads you can build with what you have.
+GamePlayer553 I agree with Pat, the Decimator is a great ship for us, other suggestions, it depends on what you want to build. If you want a Swarm, you will need more Fighters (normal or FO), if you want to use missiles, bombs or torpedoes you will need bombers and punishers. There are many options to expand your squad :)
Gotta disagree. The TIE Advanced upgrades were what made me want one, way more than Palpatine (even before they nerfed him right out of top tier usefulness).
+The Cardboard Dungeon So how canon is the Raider? FFG worked with Disney to create it, after the buyout. Seems to me that means the Raider is as canon as it can be without being in Rebels or Force Awakens.
+Thannak V - The Raider should be canon. Anything officially added by Disney/Lucasfilm after the buyout is part of canon, along with the 6 films and Clone Wars series.
Even with the improvements the Tie Advanced is fundamentally flawed. The new wave 8 and wave 7 thats out are going to further outshine the Tie Adv in the competitive scene. But if someone does push it into the competitive scene then so be it. I could be wrong but its a fundamentally flawed ship.
+Michael Phillips - I'm not sure that I've seen enough out of wave 7 (and we don't know enough of wave 8 yet) to say that anything there outshines the TIE Advanced. For example, I'd like to try a one-on-one dogfight between Darth Vader and Talonbane Cobra. I feel like they are fairly evenly matched. I don't see anything else in wave 7 that would be a huge threat to the TIE Advanced in terms of playability or relevance.
The Cardboard Dungeon Great video and commentary as always. But, as far as the Tie Advanced goes, it has no place in the current meta, and thats why its never flown competitively. It surely cannot dodge an arc better than the current dodgers, it is no Soontir. It is no YT-1300/2400 or VT-49, and none of the pilots are cheap enough to be flown in a swarm type squad effectively. Darth Vader simply needs 3 attack dice. If they gave the Tie Adv. a systems upgrade that gave it the ability to increase its primary weapon value by one then it could be relevant. Its not a horrible ship, its just that other ships do thier job more efficiently and in the end make the Tie Adv. look less impressive. Im an Imperial player all day trust me i have love for this ship but it has no bite in the current meta. They have spoiled a fair amount in wave 8, and those ships very interesting.
+Michael Phillips Actually the Tie Advance change saw the Tie advance seeing a TON of love at NOVA. And at least 1 top 16 used 2 Tie Advanced in his build. and the AC/DC build is definitely legit versus falcons and decimator builds (4xtie advanced x1 with accuracy correctors+12 free points to spend)
+Michael Phillips Accuracy Corrector plus Cluster Missiles. 4 guaranteed hits in a turn, minimum. If only we could add on Extra Munitions as well, the X1 would be terrifying. Fly some Adv. with Colzet, and turn those hits into crits.
If you're going to play in official tournaments, yes. For casual games you can easily proxy the cards and try them out. It's annoying to have to buy an expensive thing, especially if you're not going to use the Raider, but this is pretty common practice for tabletop miniatures games. There will always be new, bigger, more expensive things to buy if you want to keep up with the meta (or play the best version of a ship you like). X-Wing is particularly egregious about this - the practice isn't limited to the chase cards in their epic ship expansions, it's in every wave. For example, if you don't play Rebels but want Expertise, which is an amazing Elite upgrade on a whole bunch of pilots for all three factions, you have to buy a U-Wing. For a long time the only way to get Autothrusters, an all but necessary upgrade for several Imperial aces, was to buy a StarViper expansion. And so on.
Thank you for making all these videos! As a total n00b, I'm basically using them as a buying guide to see what ships I wanna get my hands on first. This is truly a public service you're doing with all these breakdowns! Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you for watching!

Awesome video as always! Keep doing this amazing work man :D
+Lucas Marchezim - Thank you!
Man, that Juno Eclipse tho. And that title upgrade! WOO.
+TheGreatHamEl Only a shame it comes with just a huge expansiv ship, that you most likely wont use very often.
Even before the video is complete, I'm already looking for TIE/x1 plus ADV.targeting Computer in the individual card market (my guess is they are going to be expensive ). Thank you for this tip.
LOL, everywhere I have looked so far -out of stock. I will keep looking.
accuracy corrector also works on cluster missiles, it also let's you spam evades
Awesome video man!
It's a good thing the huge ships are a good bit cheaper online then they are in any stores.
Don't forget about using cluster missiles with accuracy corrector :)
Give Vader a Engine upgrade and release hell on the rebels
I own the Raider and love it! But if I were not interested in epic, i dont see why it wouldnt be too hard to have some cards printed up.
+faxanadu13 - It's not hard at all, and if you're playing casual games there's no issue. In organized play tournaments, though, you're required to have an actual copy of every card in your list. Proxies or photocopies can be disqualified.
+The Cardboard Dungeon I have wanted to play tournaments, so that is good to know.

with adv targeting computer do you get a crit on one of the 2 dice you roll or is it a crit +what ever you roll?
+Barron Holmes - It's a critical plus whatever is rolled on the dice. Which means that a TIE Advanced at range 1 is now capable of 4 hits.
Ooooooooo nice. Gonna try that this week and see how it goes this week
would printing out those upgrade cards be accepted during casual play generally? I hayve no mahny.
As long as all players are cool with it, anything goes in casual play.
From my personal experience in casual play, most people don't mind whether you have legit upgrade cards or not as long as you have access to the rules
I hate that I need to get a raider to make Darth Vader useful again haha.
Right? The Raider is hands down the best thing to happen to Imperial standard format since Soontir Fel and Push the Limit. Palpatine AND cards that make TIE Advanced and Vader competitive? Yes please.
Don't feel bad I need a useless transport to get the cards I want to improve my T-65 X-wings, at least the raider has weapon hard points...
anybody got any fire lists including Vader?
I've been flying Vader with Predator, title, Advanced Targeting and Engine Upgrade along with one other Imperial ace (either standard Soontir or Inquisitor) and a Delta Squadron TIE Defender. Of course, that was pre-Imperial Veterans. Now my go-to Imperial lists are much more Defender heavy :)
so I actually really like running Darth Vader with the card that lets him give an action. so he gives a focus to a bomber
hey Pat, i'm an Imperial player and i'm not sure which ship to get next? any suggestions?
+GamePlayer553 - You can't go wrong with the TIE Interceptor. The Decimator is also a great ship for the Imperials. I'd start there and then see what kind of squads you can build with what you have.
+GamePlayer553 Firstly what ships you have? :D It is easier to give advice if we know that. :)
+The Cardboard Dungeon thanks!
+Ekreth I have two regular TIEs, an Advanced, a Phantom and the Imperial Aces expansion (so two Interceptors)

Let's be honest here. The main reason to buy the Raider is for the Emperor.
Gotta disagree. The TIE Advanced upgrades were what made me want one, way more than Palpatine (even before they nerfed him right out of top tier usefulness).
So you could do a swarm of tempest squadron pilots with tie x1 and adv targeting computer.......neet
Yep, you could even throw Hull Upgrade or Shield Upgrade on all four to make them 25 points each and improve their survivability a bit.
Wait so could that mean force unleashed is canon
+Kellen Lean - Sadly, this isn't the case. X-Wing pulls from the old Expanded Universe content - know called Legends - as well as the current canon.
Perhaps an Imperial pilot named Juno Eclipse is canon, but not anything else from TFU. Sorry :(
Even with the improvements the Tie Advanced is fundamentally flawed. The new wave 8 and wave 7 thats out are going to further outshine the Tie Adv in the competitive scene. But if someone does push it into the competitive scene then so be it. I could be wrong but its a fundamentally flawed ship.

+Michael Phillips But with Advanced Targeting Computer you get a free crit on your target. The trick is to be able to keep that target in your arc.

So...I have to buy a $80-100 ship to make Vader even remotely useful in the game?
If you're going to play in official tournaments, yes. For casual games you can easily proxy the cards and try them out.
