These guys are such good singers that they are even more impressive live. Sometimes they have a little "scream off" where Jimmy shouts, John responds, Jimmy replies, John goes again etc. etc. It's not as though one is trying to better the other ... they inspire each other ... they are good mates and simply in awe of one another.

These two men have some of the most powerful voices in the entire music industry, and normally they do hold back in duets with all the people they have sung with. But when they are together it is one of the few times they love to just drop everything and belt as hard and loud as they can and know full well they wont be able to drown out the other.

The guitarist is Johnny Diesel brother-in-law of Jimmy Barnes and he is a great Australian artist in his own right. This song is a cover version but the emotion put in this performance is so epic. John Farnham is a long time artist and does some great duets; check out his duet with Olivia Newton John singing Please Don't Ask Me from The Main Event Concert, the chemistry between these two iconic Australian artists is captivating.

This song was released in Australia in 1991, when I was 14. It went to number 1 and stayed there for weeks. Looking back on growing up with Jimmy Barnes' and John Farnham's voices as basically the soundtrack of my life, I realise that I've largely taken them for granted. But watching reaction vids from folks like your good selves, and seeing how much you respect and admire them, it reminds me that I've been very fortunate. It's well and truly time for the rest of the world to find out about these blokes. Thanks for the respect you've shown to a couple of Australian music icons. Monty I watched your first reaction to this song and I could see the joy you had today showing something you enjoy to your mate. Absolutely fantastic to see anytime, or any place. All of Oz will tell you live is better especially in the era that both of these singers come from. Australia is a big continent/country with a small population. Bands had to do the hard yards and gig live to become known, and travel far and wide. Pub rock is a result, and is something you'll hear about from Australia. The win from this is that our true performers, can and do sing just as good, and if not better live.
So, so much fire music for you to react to. More from my idol Barnsey from his Cold Chisel period to his solo career and to his collaboration with other artists including INXS, Tina Turner, Sam Moore, Joe Bonamossa, and Diesel aka Johny Diesel aka Mark Lizotte who played the guitar solo and sang back up here. This is Jimmy's brother in law. I saw Jimmy and Diesel at a concert and they are brilliant.
Both Jimmy and John have had surgery recently. Wishing them good vibes and love for their continued healing.
If you love musicians who can collaborate together I would recommend Knocking on Heaven's Door (yes a Bob Dylan's cover) from Jimmy's page. Some context and background though.... they practice once. The video is Old and not clear, but I know you'll enjoy it. It is from a memorial concert for Andy Durant who passed at around 25 years of age from melanoma. First verse from Mossy (Ian Moss, also of Cold Chisel fame) with harmonies from Jimmy, second verse from Mick Pearling, lead singer from Stars, the band Andy was in, followed by Broderick Smith in the 3rd verse. Wait until Jimmy picks up the microphone and sings with Renee Geyer. 🌸
Other obscure artists from Oz could include Jeff St John (RIP) with Teach me how to fly and Fool in love.
The band Goanna with a song Livin' on a Razors edge.
Rickie Lee Coulter singing Not Too Late.
The Church with Under the milky way.
The Real Thing by Russell Morris and then the version by Kate Ceberano, Mahalia Barnes (Jimmy's daughter) and Nikka Costa.
Axiom with Glenn Shorrock of Little River Band fame, and Brian Cadd with A little ray of sunshine, Or Brian Cadd with Ginger Man.
Then you could try Doug Parkinson (RIP) singing the Beetles classic Dear Prudence. What a powerful voice.
Little River Band, with either Glenn Shorrock or John Farnham as lead singer. Both backed by Graeham Goble and Beeb Birtles with gorgeous harmonies.
The Stars singing Rocky Mountain Way Live at the Palais in 1977 to pay homage to Andy on Guitar, and to enjoy Mal Eastick on talk box.
Our early bands include the Easybeats with Friday on my Mind and She's so Fine. The lead singer Stevie Wright sings Evie parts I, II and III which will blow your mind. There are links to this band and ACDC for you to discover.
Billy Thorpe, Masters Apprentices (Farnseys buddy and manager's band, Glenn Wheatley RIP) with Its because I love you.
    Zoot with Rick Springfield
    Daddy Cool with Ross Wilson.
Aussie Crawl, Crowded House, Hoodoo Gurus, Southern Sons with lead singer Jack Jones AKA Irwin Thomas who has at times been compared to Farnsey.
Black Sorrows with Chained to the Wheel from 1999 to indroduce you to Vikka and Linda Bull....
Maybe some of our female goddesses like Helen Reddy, Tina Arena, Vanessa Amorosi, Jessica Mauboy, Colleen Hewitt singing Day by Day, Renee Geyer, Sia, and Delta Goodram.
Samantha Jade and Cryus Villanueva singing Hurt Anymore
Dami Im singing her Eurovision song Sound of Silence.
Then from across the ditch and our NZ cousins try Noiseworks, and Split ends. Also Max Merrit, with Slipping away.
Very long message. I wish you well. Happy journey.

Jimmy was a big drinker and it was fairly common in the early days for him to have his bottle of vodka on stage taking swigs.

Here's another jam with Jimmy Barnes and the late Michael Hutchence INXS 'Good Times' Live ua-cam.com/video/TimxLOW922o/v-deo.html
Jim was the King of Rock once and John was the King of Pop once. Both go back decades.
John started in 1967 with SADIE THE CLEANING LADY ua-cam.com/video/eZeRmpvCjEw/v-deo.html
and went on from there. Close friend of Olivia Newton John who he worked with in Australia from time to time. This is a great one from the same concert too:
IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP IF YOU WANT TO ROCK N ROLL ua-cam.com/video/73X_z_zW4Sg/v-deo.html
Also same concert: YOU’RE THE VOICE ua-cam.com/video/6m2m_9Uijso/v-deo.html
Also sang DARE TO DREAM from Sydney 2000 Olympic Opening Ceremony with ONJ - ua-cam.com/video/NwIfmS-Pml/v-deo.html (note you may need to alter a VPN setting to Australia to see that).
This is good too - the 2.5 hr concert with ONJ and our Phantom from Phantom of the Opera (Anthony Warlow):-
    THE MAIN EVENT ua-cam.com/video/qd-USQDe9dg/v-deo.html
A bit on John - Born in the UK in 1949, came out when 10 to Melbourne Victoria, Australia. Same sort of history as Olivia Newton John, who was born in the UK in 1948 and came out when 5 to Melbourne. Both worked in the industry in Melbourne in the 1960's and eventually Olivia ended up back in the UK and then the US. John became the King of Pop with the 1967 hit ‘Sadie the Cleaning Lady.’ John had his chances to work in the US but wanted to live in Australia. He is now in his 70's and sadly went through a 12 hour operation for throat cancer losing part of his jaw back about the same time his dear friend Olivia died in August 2022.
Jimmy Barnes was born April, 28 1956 in Glasgow, Scotland. His original name was 'James Dixon Swan' and his father was a featherweight boxing champion in Glasgow. In 1961/62 his family moved to Australia. After playing in a school band (he replaced Bon Scott (who joined AC/DC) as lead vocalist in the band Fraternity. Then, aged 16 and a half, he joined Cold Chisel in 1973. First they played the pubs of Adelaide, then they played the pubs of Australia and finally they got a record contract in 1976. Now, Cold Chisel are Australian history - one of the best bands Australia ever had. They split up in 1983 because they thought they weren't playing good music anymore and they didn't want to rip their fans off with another album.
