When I watch through and see each individual picture it's hard to pick up on where the details are going, but then when you see the animation play through and they somehow manage to get like perfectly animated liquid and stuff it just blows my mind lol. So much talent in one video.
@@bend7668 Why and how would it add frames for specific objects and not the entire picture though? I haven’t finished this video but animations on other videos with liquid don’t seem to have any extra frames, but if they did they’re not around the other objects.
@@bend7668 I'm sure it doesn't, it all has to do with how our eyes work. Ever hear the misconception that anything over 30 frames per second isn't visible to the human eye? Well, that's not true, but where that comes from is the actual fact that between 25 and 30 fps is where we become fully unable to discern the individual frames, because our eyes basically fill in the gaps in between, so things appear to move smoothly even when they technically don't. A lot of people misunderstand this to think it means that since anything over 30fps looks "perfectly smooth", there should be no visible difference between 30 or 60fps or more, but there definitely is. If you've never seen animations being made like this or made any yourself you might be shocked to find that gaps in detail that seem very obvious from one frame to the next appear to animate so smoothly, but that's just how animation works. It doesn't take very many frames for our brains to interpolate the rest. Pretty much what you think the software is doing, that's actually your brain doing that. Animation has always taken advantage of this fact to do what it does - that's why even traditional hand drawn animation before computers had movement that looked "real". They didn't have software sticking frames between the ones they drew. If you think they just animated the movements down to finer detail, they probably drew less frames than you think. Animation is one of the most tiresome, tedious tasks I've ever tried my hand at, and that was WITH a computer to help. You can be assured that animators don't draw any more frames than they HAVE to, to get the desired effect. Also Ross' group tends to spend a lot more time on the details and slowly "easing" the lines than a lot of animation does, that's why you get those really meticulous liquid movements that makes things like the smoke look not only good, but stylized (listen for the term "easing", it tends to come up once or twice per video). But if it was doing what you said, it would look insanely smoother than it currently does. As it is it's actually kind of jittery animation, I'm not even sure it's playing back at 30fps, could be around 25, which gives it a bit more of an epic, cinematic edge. But to an untrained eye it's probably baffling that so few frames can seem so smooth.
A liquid can go only 1 direction. A fist can go 3 directions(follow up, follow down, or new direction) and that pokeball red thing can either solidify or retract. Liquid and explosions are super easy to animate. I drew dramatic gopher who exploded into a mushroom cloud in flipnote hatena, and that 10min animation when I was 12yo was when I peaked.
