Later, after another terrible umpire call against Borg (over-ruling an ace), McEnroe can be seen laughing and then deliberately whacks Borg's next serve way into the stands for justice and to show the umpire up.
So funny to watch Borg´s way of "arguing" compared to Mac´s he is just standing there, looking sad until the points are deducted. Talk about different mentalities. Thanks for posting.
Borg must have really felt like he got hooked on a call to argue like this. He never did that. McEnroe was probably shocked on the other side of the net
Based on guessing of course: Borg argument is probably that Chair Umpire overruled the line judge call to avoid any possible argument with Mcnroe which was never far away when ball was near the any of line-baseline/sideline.
I think this was a sign of the end. Borg only argued during the 1973 Quarter against Taylor (or whatever his name is) at wimbledon, and he really went "overboard" for Borg, its amazing. I think it shows that the pressure was really mounting on him and he was getting sick of tennis in general
The umpire isn't going to change his mind. Borg must have known the rules and that he was going to have points deducted if delayed the resumption of the match.
This is all correct, except that Borg's loss to Mayer took place the day after his match with McEnroe, not the day before. The win over McEnroe had given him two victories in the round-robin, assuring him a spot in the semis. He essentially threw the match with Mayer.
Douche nozzle over-rules his linesman who made the correct call to begin with, then piles on by awarding 2 penalty points against Borg. Can you imagine the circus atmosphere had McEnroe been the one who got screwed here? Umpire should've never left the Village People to officiate tennis.
This video missed the best part. Shortly after, when the umpire shortchanged Borg again unfairly, McEnroe, out of support lost a point deliberately by hitting the ball up into the stands. An epic moment because what McEnroe was saying was, ‘Of course I want to win, but there’s no glory for me in doing it unfairly.’. Then at the end neither shook the umpires hand, He was a total asshole who didnt like Borg, obvious to all.
mac didnt even make it to the semis??? who else did he lose to? no doubt lendl strategically won/lost matches so as to make the easiest path for him to get to the finals (where he lost anyways, haha)
This umpire is a dill seriously, he made a horrible call and borg had every right to argue his case. Then he has the nerve to call time violation or wateva it was on borg. Borg should have throttled him.
Borg looks like he's trying to decide if it's worth killing the judge, or not.

is this in the same match?

Borg never had the gift of gab.

McEnroe is like omg I gave him my temper somehow
to say this is rare is a vasy understatement.i only remember it happening a couple of times in his whole career.
Borg's stare could melt the umpire at 2:08

This wasn't the end dude
The announcer is HILARIOUS. "He REALLY will have to get on with it. This is MOST SERIOUS for Borg!" You can't beat the British! Hahaha!
Under the Iceberg,a rare volcano!AMAZING!!!!
Good to see Borg sticking up for himself
This is the second match of round robin at masters gp 1980 played in January 1981. The semifinals were played between Borg Connors & Lendl Gene Mayer.
That's a hell of a mustache!
2:11 Borg eye-daggers emerge
mcenroe deliberately gave one away after this..tahts teh highlight that should ber here
here it is ua-cam.com/video/tVwPAOpFweY/v-deo.html
dang, this isn't the iceborg i ever recalled
Hawkeye? Seriously? This match was in 1981. There was no Hawkeye in the 90's, let alone the 80's.
they had Cyclops
Borg was like the Dexter of tennis.
I never knew Norman Tebitt was a tournament supervisor.
This was not long before Borg walked away from the game. I think the stress was getting to him
Bullshit
Who is here because the HBO Fire and Ice documentary mentioned this? I AM
The umpire isn't going to change his mind.

Hah; and, he did this against McEnroe, of all persons, perhaps a bit ironically so.
The Masters was perfect in NYC in early January. They ought to move the year end thing back to the Garden, and call it the Masters

Points against Borg for delays before the next serve- Nadal very often takes longer than the time allowed.
I got that info from the New York Times reports on the event.

The umpire was dead wrong in this.

It didn't exist
